  1. Aside from district standings, there's no way an Ashland team ever overlooks a Rose Hill team full of "transfers" and D-1 recruits...   The Ashland student cheering section sure got ready for the game. Maybe the cheer coach should... aw, nevermind... Fairview at home by 7... unless the Cats overlook how good they can be at times... and then 15+.
  2. Rose Hill is the best 7-8 team in the state. This will be a good game.
  3. The word I got is that a disgruntled parent vowed to "get back at" LCA for something that didn't go the way the parent thought it should for their kid. The details of that story are unimportant. The point is, they've been slinging mud, just to see what would stick. This is it... a few area churches helping to pay the tuition for some kids they felt needed to be in a better situation. There was no direct indication or implication of recruiting, otherwise the penalties would have been stiffer. This was not a grand secret scheme cooked up by the administration of LCA to pull one over on everyone else. I was a case of genuine charity with the unfortunate and undeniable appearance of possible impropriety. To their credit, LCA stepped up, and took their medicine. :thumb:
  4. I called for 50 from Euton and Jackson. They delivered 52. Not bad. Looks like some of the other boys at the Hill are figuring out how to get the ball in the basket too. I really figured Selby would rumble for 30.
  5. Nothing majorly wrong I suppose. Any details?
  6. Wow... I nailed the spread. Anybody have the other stats? I'd like to see how my other predictions held up.
  7. No disrespect to Lewis, but if Ashland doesn't win this by 20+ something's wrong.
  8. The kid is a 6' 8" sophomore with three more years to get stronger and develop before he hits the floor with the Wildcats. I think he'll be okay. Lighten up...
  9. If Boone turns the Flannery kid loose, Boone by 28.
  10. Selby 30, other BC players 24. Euton & Jackson 50, other RH players 18. RH 68 - BC 54
  11. Is that minutes played in three games? What's up with that? That's about two and a half quarters a game. Is somebody trying to balance the stats?
  12. Did Ferguson not get to play more than two quarters?
  13. MOST? How about ALL? That newspaper used to be good about 30 years ago before it was bought and sold and bought again by big outside corporations trying to squeeze every last drop of profit out of it. They cut staff, and cut staff, and relied more on AP wire feeds than in hitting the bricks and doing actual reporting on a local level. They still have some good writers and photographers there, they are just spread too thin. The result is a lot of teams get overlooked until the big games roll around. P.S. - I bet I can dig deeper than you.
  14. I'm sure he'll have a chance to remove your doubts in Anderson Gymnasium this season.
  15. Long time reader, first time poster. I usually peek in here every so often for a good chuckle. You guys seldom disappoint. This thread is about the Top 10 players in the 16th Region. That has nothing to do with the teams they’re on or spaceships to Mars… No one with any sense can argue that Elliott enters the season at the TEAM to beat until somebody steps up and proves otherwise. But as far as individual players go, if we look at facts, not emotions Dakotah Euton and Chad Jackson have to be considered the top two players in the 16th region. Euton is a legitimate 6’ 8” 225 pounds. He was recruited by Florida, Duke, Indiana, UCLA, Uconn, Louisville, Texas and Kentucky as a freshman. He has committed to Kentucky as a sophomore. That’s a big as it gets in this state. Jackson is over 6’ 4” and around 190 pounds. He is currently being recruited by Kentucky, Louisville, Kansas, North Carolina, Indiana, WVU, and many others. He will play major division one ball somewhere with a regular season television broadcast schedule. Contrary to popular belief, he does have an accurate outside jumper that will give opponents fits. Both can throw down with both hands, and play above the rim. Whether Euton or Jackson is the better recruit depends upon what a coach is looking for… big and strong with a silky stroke from 30 feet in, or lightning quick with unbelievable hands and athleticism. Ethan Faulkner, Jonathan Ferguson, Evan Faulkner and Matt Thomas are very good players and even better young men. All have a very good chance of playing basketball at the college level, but whether that will be Major, Mid or Small DI, DII, DIII or NAIA remains to be seen. Beyond these six, there are several promising young players with DI potential, but you’re just throwing darts to say who will finish where. 1. Dakotah Euton / Chad Jackson 3. Ethan Faulkner / Jonathan Ferguson 5. Matt Thomas 6. Evan Faulkner
  16. Chris graduated from Whitley County back in the mid-1980s. He's said this is his dream job. He proved he can coach at Green County and Breathitt County. Maybe this really will be home for a good long time. :thumb:
  17. Mike Deaton led the Colonels last season, but got tired of driving back and forth to Somerset every day, so he's outta here. Assistant coach Chris Baker has been named head coach. He was head coach at Breathitt County and got the Bobcats to the region finals a few times. What are his chances at Whitley this year, and will he stick around and build some stability in what could be a terrific program?
  18. If he's the same dark haired point guard I remember at the 7th grade state tournamemt in Louisville in 2005 he can shoot the lights out. Rose Hill beat a good Whitley County team for the championship. The big blond Ooton kid the quick Johnson or Jackson kid and strong Bear kid were tough to handle inside, and when Whitleys D collapsed on them, the Barber kid lit 'em up from outside. I saw the same kid at a Nike tournament the next summer in Henderson, playing with an AAU team from Lexington. I talked to his dad there, and learned he's a grade behind Ooton and the other boys. I only got to see the first half of their game against a good team from Chicago. He hit something like 7 threes in the first half, and when they got in his face he drove it inside and scored or dished it off. He's a handfull.
  19. Whitley County has had a lot of underrated players. Some of us for good reason. I don't know if there's a thread for underrated coaches, but I'd have to say Rich Prewitt was one of the best. He took Whitley to a 22-6 record in 1995, with a team scoring average of 93 ppg. According to the KHSAA stats that would be about 3rd all time if it was listed. That was a great season. UK had Ricky P. we had Richey P. Last I heard, he is principal of the middle school. I sure wish we could convince him to coach again.
  20. Then you either be quiet and keep the secret to yourself because it is so special you don't want to share, or you announce it to the world and be prepared to prove it. Otherwise you just come off as somebody with a dull axe to grind. Sounds like a game between your two schools would be a great match-up. Go for it... I'd buy a ticket. :thumb:
