Rice is probably one of the more consistent players on the teams. He can dunk on you down low off an alley oop or baseline pass or take you out 18 feet and hit a jumper like a guard. Difference in the two? Hill plays better defense which makes him more of an all around player. I think one person we're leaving out though that's probably ONE of the best PG's in the state is Holmes' Duran Jefferson. He is the catalyst of that Holmes team.

Sounds about right no me. I think HC could make a case as well returning Sorrell, Giwa and Eifert. They won't win the 35th but they will be competitive. Everyone has talked about their teams strengths and who they have coming back, but what are some of their weaknesses that they need to work on in order to win it all? Holmes- Plain and simple, they need to find scorers. Nelson and Henderson will be the two main targets next year, but other than that nobody really scored much for the Dawgs other than Avery and Clark here and there adn that was in back up roles.

Pelle is a solid player and i've personally seen him play, but until his school plays bigger and better competition he just isn't going to get the recognition he deserves.

Solid win for the Colonels early in the season. Picking up a district win this early in the season is huge.

Once again, Profitt and Hammonds poor shot selection can be attributed to Holmes good defense. From the enquirer: "Those guys seemed to be everywhere - strong defense," Proffitt said. "... They were always in the right place at the right time. You've got to give them props. I'd say that's the best defense we've played all year. That's the best defense we've faced in a while. And we go everywhere. We've played some of the best teams in the country. They were just solid in every aspect of defense."

Holmes didn't beat Tilghman because of their offensive weaponry? Hill had 26 points...sure that came on 24 shots...but they killed Tilghman on the offensive glass with put backs. That's offensive weaponry. Henderson was the second high scorer with 12 points and didn't even take that many shots. Once again, Hill did. It's not Arrez fault he didnt get to touch the ball that much because Austin was taking all the shots.

Here's my only problem with Simpson. He is good but at times plays selfishly and tries to do everything himself. Against CCh in the regional semis there were many times where he could have slowed it down and found a wide open team mate but instead shot an off balance 3. He and bluebirds won't be able to beat the top teams like Holmes and CCH next year if he does that

Highlands will be tough next year. No way does CCH beat them. Who is in Highlands district? Highlands, CCH, Dixie, Holmes, Scott?

Triinity's rings ae sharp. I like on the side where it has the 17 inside of the state and says dynasty under it with 01,02,03,05 and then 2006 under those. Trinity earned them. Congrats. Why did Trinity make their players and coaches pay for the rings though? Private school thing?

But Holmes didn't need Henderson to really step up. Tilghman had no answer for Hill. Henderson is more known for his defense and high flying ability. He didn't have a stellar game against PT, but he didn't have a bad one by any means. Props to PT...they help him under 15.............

Thanks. Highlands should be very competitive. If Simpson can get them to play at his level and find another consistent scorer, Highlands could be top 5 IMO.

Reggie Revels is the kid you're thinking about. He transfered from Taft last year but was ruled ineligible and was a senior this year. Holmes doesn't have any tranfers that I know of.

Tilghman would be a tough game for South. Difference though: Tilghman's guards couldn't match up w/ Profitt.

:thumb: If you saw these young men as freshmen and sophomores and saw them in their last game, it was like watching a completely different team.

I totally agree with Highlands. Simpson will carry that team next year and will be a tough game for anyone. Who does Highlands return from this year besides Simpson?

Holmes returns EVERYONE from last year's team. Can they score? I'm assuming so as they will be that much better after all having another full year under their belt. IMO it comes down to Ryle and Holmes.

IMO CCH has the early leg up but holmes returns more experience.

When you take something away from these young men that they love to do and tell them they're not allowed, it makes them appreciate it even more and makes them want to try even harder knowing they don't have that many chances/games left to prove themselves. But to be honest this shouldn't even be talked about. Why can't everyone just congratulate them on a fine season they had. They finished as one of the top 4 teams in the state. They will go down as ONE of the best to teams to come out of the 9th region and have an experience not many others can say they had. Let's leave it at that. Sure they weren't state champs, but for everything they had to overcome, they're state champs in my book.

Alright folks I know it's early, but what do you all think? The 9th region will be hit hard this year with graduation of some great players (Hill, Rice, Jeffersom, Bovard, Jacobs, Lenhoff, bray, Ryan, etc) and I don't think the 9th region will see a team of Holmes caliber of this year for a while but who will be the early favorites and why? In no particular order here's what I think... CCH- lose a lot of talent in Bovard and Jacobs, but seem to always reload. Noll and Lampl will both have to develop a ton over the summer if they want to be a serious contender. Holmes- return key players in Avery, Clark, Nelson, and by the way 9th region tourney MVP, Arrez Henderson along with a talented JV squad led by sophomore to be Dom Johnson who is probably the next big name player to come through Holmes Ryle- Talented freshman classes the past two years, may surprise a few teams and become a top 5 team by season's end Highlands- return POY candidate Nic Simpson, and with him in the lineup and a decent supporting cast, Highlands may become a contender as well Holy Cross- Giwa, Eifert, and Sorrell all 3 return so HC should be competitive. Boone Co- were somewhat young this year but graduated bray which will hurt them. IMO the top 3 teams next year will be Holmes, CCH, and Highlands but what do you think? I'm not too familiar with the 08 class.
