Solid win for the Colonels early in the season. Picking up a district win this early in the season is huge.

CCH threw Blesser for 2 1/3 and got into some trouble and Niehouse finished all but the final out when HC was threatning. Holy Cross threw Arlinghouse for about 5 and a freshman, sorry I don;t have his name, to finish the game.

Pretty good game until HC started throwing the ball away in about the fifth, but they recovered and almost pulled it out. I think HC had 3 or 4 errors and Cov Cath one, maybe two.

Final score was 7-6 CovCath, not 6-5.

 

Colonels get clutch hitting out of Darner, Maile, and Holocher, all sophmores. Larkin scores 2 runs and has 2 stolen bases. Neihouse gave up no hits through 3 2/3 innings before giving up 2 in the 7th.

I believe it was 7-6 (?) and CovCath Junior Newhouse (sp) did a great job coming in for Blesser. Both teams had some running blunders and it was by far one of the nicest days in years, to open up the season with. Blesser started for CovCath but didn't have his best stuff. Not sure who the pitcher was for Holy Cross (big kid with IMO funny release). Sophomore Billy Holcher (sp) did very well at the plate as did young Maile. CovCath only had one fielding blunder, and it was nice to see them playing so well so early in the season. Nuttini (sp)came in to close out the Indians in the seventh. Good game by both teams, but it is far to early in the season to get to up or to low with the win by CovCath or loss by Cov Holy Cross.

Ryan Ernest of the Enquirer was there for the game, so I am sure you see a write up about the game in Wednesday morning paper.

From what I understand this was game does not count as a district game, as it is far too early in the season to play such an important game for both teams....

Bleser was on a pitch count if I'm not mistaken. Niehaus threw well. Nutini finished. Bruce Arlinghaus pitched for HC followed by FROSH Andy Roenker who is very good. We'll hear about this kid over the next few years.

 

IMO this was played at a slightly higher level than a scrimmage. Lots of switches. Many pitchers. Good first game for both teams.

I believe it was both, and reached it at that point of the game. Was good to see Neihaus pitch so well.....got out of that ining with only giving up one run....

Josh went into the game knowing the coach was pulling him at 50 pitches today. Ask anyone on the team, they will tell you he threw exactly 50 pitches. It had nothing to do with game situation; although I thought it was a good time to pull him no matter how many pitches he had thrown.

It was a real confidence booster for Neihaus, he did very well. Josh is a great kid and I am sure he would tell you he has had better days on the mound.

I was very impressed with the sophomores today. I have never been one to say a kid's ability should be based on the grade they are in. Today proved that to be correct.

 

The other kid that was great today batting was Skylar Stein #40. He hit a few bombs today that caught the outfielders off guard.

Niehaus did a great job today. I was not fortunate enough to see him pitch last year.

 

Josh has good and bad days as any other pitcher. CCH supporters are hoping he will have more good than bad this year. Keep in mind, he has pitched probably a total of maybe a dozen innings (summer ball) since his shoulder surgery almost a year ago.
