Does anyone from Holy Cross know how the HC player who took a pitch in the face (nose?) is doing? Hope he is OK... The poor umpire behind the plate sure took a beating today also....

....but those shoes were shiny and his pants were creased. Best-dressed umpire in baseball.

5 of the 10 in the lineup were SOPHS, I believe, for CCH today. Has that ever happened at CCH?

Did he go to the bench and borrow a cup?

Don't know, but.....he looked to me to have some tears in his eyes on that one.

All kidding aside, that one had to hurt.......

After the first one, I told him, that that was the first of many for the season, and he shook his head and said that the one was enough for him. He really did take a beating....

A tip of the cap to the men in blue today. The home plate umpire I though was consistence in giving the batter the benefit of doubt on outside pitches, but he did it both ways, so no complaint.....It is early in the season for them also.... Good job blue......

Back in the day, having a sophmore or two play some wasn't such a big deal.... but so many, and starting, not that I can remember.....

That's too bad, he was a pretty good ball player. Sometimes kids have other priorities touugh, especially with college comming up.

Maybe they should go back to more upper classmen or is it that's all they have?

Duncan is a lacrosse player now, from what I understand.

Maybe they should go back to more upper classmen

I don't follow.

Bottom line... If the underclassmen are better, they play, and this group of young men are very, very good...... As many have said, CovCath Baseball only gets better over the next couple of years......and they aren't bad now, as the coaches poll placed them preseason second.

CovCath edges Holy Cross

With one swing of the bat, Covington Catholic pitcher Danny Niehaus saw his first varsity victory flash before his eyes.

The junior right-hander, on the bench after 41/3 innings of solid relief work, watched as the Colonels came through with a clutch defensive play to secure a 7-6 home victory over Holy Cross on Tuesday in the first game for both teams.

That's a known fact. The point is, the underclassmen held their own yesterday.
