  1. Let's break it down by districts first:

    45th District

Lincoln County is the definite favorite and should win easily. Boyle/Garrard in the first round should be a good one. I'd pick Boyle, but neither team winning would be a surprise.

    46th District

West Jessamine should take care of Burgin. Mercer County is more impressive than East, but it seems like Mercer's ready to wrap it all up. I think West wins this district over East Jessamine.

    47th District

Can anyone name another district that all four teams can honestly win? This one sets up that way this year. Some are suggesting that Somerset will fall at home-standing Rockcastle County. I'm not prepared to say that, but it wouldn't be a shock. Casey County has beat Pulaski County twice this season, yet I'm picking the Maroons. Tell me this district isn't wild! Give me Somerset over Pulaski for the championship...I already hate this pick.

    48th District

Undoubtedly Wayne County and McCreary Central should emerge from this district, but who as the winner and who as the runner-up? Wayne County really seems to be playing well right now. The tournament is at McCreary, so that offsets. I'll pick Wayne to pull an upset and beat the Raiders in the final.

    12th Region

My predictions would have Lincoln, West, Somerset and Wayne as district winners, with Boyle, East, Pulaski and McCreary as runners-up. Lincoln County would be my favorite. But this region is wide open in the middle. Many of my predicted teams could be replaced by others and it wouldn't be a big surprise. Should make for a fun couple of weeks.

  2. It seems like that whenever Lincoln struggles, it's because Ryan Young tries to do too much. He's a fantastic player, but occasionally tries to step outside of the offense.

A loss to Dunbar isn't necessarily a bad thing, though. The Bulldogs are a legitimate Top 25 team. Lincoln will rebound and I expect them to continue their march to a regional championship.

  3. Garrard may be pursuing Settles but I have a strong feeling he is going to be a Patriot.

    Two points on this:

    1. The money isn't too much different between Lincoln and Garrard

    2. It's easier to win at Garrard than Lincoln because the class/opponents are little lighter.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Settles in Lancaster because of those two points, along with the fact that it seems like Lincoln has really drug their feet on the whole hiring procedure.

  4. Sounds like you have the inside scoop! Strange that all the Perry info was flying around if there was no truth to it. Oh, well. I guess several posters will be disappointed.

I'm not sure disappointed is the right word. He would be a good choice, but that's not the end of the world. I think a lot of the Perry rumors were hopeful more than truthful.

  5. *Cough* Joe Lunardi *Cough* Bracketology *Cough*

First off, that guy is almost always right. He has only missed a team or two for like five years straight. Second, his seeds are "right now." If a team loses, they will drop. If their schedule weakens, they will drop. He never implies that his bracket will look like that in March...that's just what it looks like "right now."

So for all of this Drake bashing, relax. Polls show nothing but the ability to promote a team when the one ahead of it loses - eventually anyone can move up. And as stated in the previous paragraph, the seeding was real time, not a projection.

  6. If UT doesn't win this tourny I will be shocked.

I wouldn't say that just yet. Tennessee traditionally struggles in the SEC Tournament. They play quite a few players, but their style can be tiring. They also have a tendency to not show up for the opening game.

While Tennessee would be the favorite, I actually would be surprised if they won!

  7. Plato, my accountability rests with the student who is in the 6th grade, is below the radar screen and not any real issue to the school but reads at a 3rd grade level.

While I agree in part that the teacher is at fault here, I think if a kid can't read past the third grade level, he shouldn't be promoted past the third grade. There should be a set of accomplishments that every kid has to achieve prior to moving to another grade.

The problem is administrators would never push this because the parents would get mad and with the current NCLB Laws, that child staying back would hurt the school's scores.

Now I ask, would I rather the school's scores be hurt or a child know how to read? Unfortunately, our system is much more geared toward the prior and not the latter.

  8. I don't have dates, but here are the sites:

Region 5 - Hart County High School

    Region 6 - Louisville Gardens

    Region 7 - Louisville Gardens

Region 8 - Henry County High School

Region 9 - Conner High School

Region 10 - Montgomery County High School

Region 11 - Eastern Kentucky University (opening round on campus)

Region 12 - Pulaski County High School

Region 13 - Knox Central High School

Region 14 - Perry County Central High School

Region 16 - Morehead State University

  9. As a Covington Catholic fan, I feel obligated to mention the CCH teams of the late 60's. They were absolutely dominant. Even though they're not even the best team to walk the halls of CCH. ;)

In all seriousness, how can you compete with a lineup like CCH had in '67 (or so). They were huge.

Covington Catholic won five consecutive regional championships from 1967-1971. Of course they lost the state title in 1967, but the next three years saw them eliminated in the first round each time (Glasgow, 1968; Clark County, 1969; Breathitt County, 1970). In 1971 they routed M.C. Napier on opening day, then fell to Owensboro in the quarterfinals.

  10. I think they were playing well so he didn't want to mix up the rotation. Stevenson has been giving good energy off the bench and Coury was only averaging about three minutes per game in conference play.

With last night's pasting, I wouldn't be surprised to see the starting lineup change down at LSU on Saturday.

  11. I don't see the supers voting for whoever is behind in the regular delegates.

I would hope not. It would be a disgrace if the American Democrats voted for Obama, but the supers put Hillary in.

As for the whole issue of superdelegates, I can't really understand how they are fair. Why are the "superdelegates" different from a regular citizen? Shouldn't they have to vote in their state primary like all other citizens?

  12. Sure did put a lot of effort and time to configure the stats for this one post huh?

I think it was a good post. He basically posted what everyone in the 12th Region thinks and knows. Somerset annually gets high billing in the region, they beat up on a couple weaklings to make the All "A," then they come back and play a tough schedule and fade. I'm not saying Somerset shouldn't emphasize the All "A" because realistically they have a much better chance of getting to/winning it than the overall state tournament. They just have to figure out a way not to fade down the stretch.
