You seriously have to be kidding about this! The Advocate Messenger is "in the know", not the Sports Editor at Garrard. He is definitely not in the know. His info is usually second hand at best. His information usually derives from a personal agenda and who he fantasizes thinks should have the job. I wouldn't be suprised if he didn't put himself in for the job and maybe a few of the Lion Pride members as assistants.
 I like the last part. That probably did happen...or at least some people in the community probably wish it would!

Tell me this - How can anyone hire a football coach in the next 10 days when there is a huge debate on what the "actual" school colors are??? Isn't that a prerequisite to put a new coach? So I think your time frame is off. Also, good athletic directors like the one at Garrard does not leak information out to the public so I'd have to be somewhat skeptical of your information anyways. If I was a coach looking for a new place, I would definitely want to know what uniforms and I could wear and what I could not. I would also not want to wear uniforms that the community made me wear because they think adding an extra color or changing the shade of the gold and cardinal "goes against the tradition". Get real!
Well, well. We've missed you, Roy. As for my previous post, I didn't say the athletic director told me ten days. I simply said it was implied. I could very well be wrong, which makes it more than fine for you to be "skeptical."
As for the school colors, that whole thing is nonsense. If they want them red/yellow or maroon/black/gold, whatever, I could care less. But I'm pretty sure a new coach or applicant isn't going to be turned off because of a uniform issue!

Both teams won on each other's home court. This one is at Station. If I were betting, I'd pick the Defenders to win tonight but Scott County to advance to Rupp by winning the region.
-
If Boyle shoots it the way they did against Garrard on Wednesday, they can definitely win. I think Lincoln will be better defensively, however, and will focus heavily on Christian Williams. I look for Lincoln to win tight, 66-62.

Who are the pickers? Is it the school administration only? Is there a committee? What is the process being used?
That, I don't know. I'm guessing the administration, specifically the athletic director, would make the call. I've heard nothing about a committee.
-
That is good to hear. Can't believe there are no names being dropped though. Must be someone from outside the program/area.
I think it probably is. It might be a surprise to many folks, too, depending upon who it is. I fully expect the pickers to make a good choice for the program at Garrard County.
-
Do they have an online newspaper?? or can you provide a link??
No online edition, sorry. The sports writer there is usually "in-the-know" on most issues, but I think many of the names that were mentioned were more "wishful thinking."
I suspect we will know something soon.

Southwesterns Trevor Jones is the best defender in the region and his offense is getting better by the day. He might not beat the others one on one but noone does more for their team than Trevor does for ours.
What class is the Jones kid in?
-
Agreed! Christian Williams is playing very well for the Rebels. Jordan Aumiller ( a junior) very well might be the best player in the 12th next year.
It sometimes seems like Aumiller doesn't have the drive in basketball that he has on the gridiron. That might keep him from truly being an elite basketball player.

I saw Lynn Camp play at Garrard County a couple weeks ago and was very impressed. Congratulations and good luck in the regional tournament.
-
Christian Williams from Boyle County is a fine player as well.

There is usually a correlation between big-time high school scores and tournament losses. Most teams have big scorers because they have no one else on the team that can play. Some of those Phelps teams with Ervin Stepp were the same.
Unfortunately, JBS wasn't that kind of team. They had skill in several positions and could have won the 14th Region. This team would have been much better off with Clark averaging 20 per game and getting all of the other teammates more involved. But, alas...
-
Garrard seems to be moving really slow in this process. Spring practice is right around the corner, and still no interviews. Maybe they are just keeping it very private.
It is being kept private. I'm not sure why people think there haven't been interviews...who in charge of the process at Garrard has actually said that? From a recent discussion with the athletic director, I'm under the assumption that a coach will be hired within the next ten days.

8 man football in High School would be pointless. If you can't field 11 then don't have a team.
What a terrible viewpoint. I would think 8-man would allow more small schools to compete and perhaps small schools that don't field teams would now be able to.
There are hundreds of 9-man, 8-man and 6-man high schools teams across the country. While it might not necessarily work for Kentucky, try telling those young men in small towns across the nation that smaller teams are "pointless."

I am much more likely to believe my guy than that guy.
I have no stake in either side. This thread/post just caught my eye because I had read SI over lunch.
I can't honestly believe the IU players would bail if Dakich was promoted. That seems like hurt pride talking, something that could easily be fixed by the next scheduled game.
-
Where did you see that that was said?
It's the lead story on SI.com right now.

Garrard County/Burgin has been cancelled.

I love it!

Who in their right mind would have an affair with that man????? If true, people never cease to amaze me!
First you get the money, then you get the power, then you get the women.

The rampant speculation is betting to get annoying. In speaking with the administration at Garrard, I've heard that they have a good number of applications. Some are head coaches wanting a change of scenery and some are assistant coaches wanting their first shot. I have no names and don't profess to. But there are good candidates in the pool at Garrard. I look for us to know something by the end of next week.

I assume this is to make room for the new Cooper High School in the 33rd?
-
I always thought Garrard County's biggest win came in the 1995 season opener. The Lions beat Beechwood 22-20 in the Constitution Bowl at Danville. Beechwood had won four straight state titles and brought so much tradition. Garrard played an outstanding game to get the win.

So The Professor is off the mix-tape tour?

I tend to enjoy the Daily Show format a little better.
Garrard County Position
in KY Football (High School)

I have always noticed the same thing about the administration at Garrard County as you did. They seem like genuinely nice guys who have a strong desire to win ballgames AND develop young minds.
As for the board of education, I have no idea about cutting down coaches and hanging them out to dry. That seems like something an insider from the previous staff might have, not myself. But if so, that's not a good thing. It would seem like that is where the school administration should step in and make a statement. If they did, I'm not aware of it.
As for recollections of glory days, the 70s and 80s definitely weren't them for Garrard County. Garrard only had four winning seasons during those two decades combined. I could see the push for Jerry Perry because of the success that he had, but bottom line, a portion of the population will never be happy no matter who is in change.
Finally, you mentioned the color scheme and that just seems like such a petty issue for people to be involved in. The board passed a rule a couple years ago saying they wouldn't pay for anything not cardinal and yellow, am I correct? Then there are articles in the local paper on a weekly basis about the issue! Garrard County has been moderately-to-very successful in many sports over the last few years, yet the color issue always gets the ink. It's tiresome.
