I see a lot of complaints about Cal not calling a timeout before Sheppard's turnover.

Not much time for Cal or a teammate to call a time-out.

Can college coaches call a live-ball timeout? I thought they took that away a few years back?

Congrats to Trinity Christian! Very deserving. Assuming Mercer hangs on, when is the last time a Jessamine school has not been in the region tournament?

East and West opened in 1997-98. Neither team made the region that season. East lost to Lexington Catholic; West lost to Sayre (this was back in their 11th Region days). At least one of the two have played in every region tournament since then.

Has it always been so bright in that gym?  In my memory, it was always dimly-lit and last night seemed to be the opposite.

The floor used to have a lot more maroon in the lanes, center circle, etc. I think now that it is just wood (and lightly stained in many parts) it shows up as more bright on television.

Consolation games? All four of those teams have been eliminated in Districts.

The 15th has gone off the reservation a little bit this school year. They didn't do District boys or girls soccer tournaments, but went straight to Regional.

The KHSAA is using the 15th Region for what appears to be a test run for all schools playing in the region. They did the same thing with the 15th about a decade ago for one year. I don't really know why they are doing this, unless it has something to do with modifications after the next realignment. It was in the last Board of Control meeting but I don't have any details beyond that.

As for soccer, there are only six teams in the 15th Region that play soccer. I'm guessing a district tournament and region tournament would have essentially been the same teams playing each other twice in a week. I can understand why they would just hold a region tournament instead.

Thanks guys but I think this needs to be fixed.

There's been some heavy chatter about an upcoming basketball realignment. I hope this is something that is fixed. With the influx of several private schools in recent years there should be enough schools to assure there aren't any 3-team districts, although as @rjs4470 and @16thBBall Fan both said, you sometimes have schools that don't field a team, making a 3-team district necessary for that particular year.

Are you certain?  I played at Somerset and graduated in 1974.  We never played Russell other than a preseason scrimmage my freshman year.  I don’t recall a Russell County team ever playing in the regional tournament.  What district would they have been in?

Wayne, Monticello, McCreary, Pine Knot. In 1975 they moved into a three-team district along with Lincoln County and Casey County. When the Mercer schools moved in during the early 1980s, Russell was placed back with Wayne, Monticello, and McCreary.

Russell lost to Danville in the 1969 region tournament, Hazel Green in 1970, Laurel County in 1972, and then Garrard County in 1977. So they were a semi-regular participant during your era.

In my era Russell wasn’t in the 12th.  Monticello and Pine Knot each had a school.

There were 6 schools in Pulaski County alone before consolidation.

Russell County was always in the 12th Region. It opened in the fall of 1953 and stayed in the 12th until being moved to the 4th Region in 2005. Even before consolidation, both Jamestown and Russell Springs both played in the 12th Region dating to the early 1930.

It used to include Laurel County and went no further than Danville.  Jessamine and Mercer weren’t included.
That seems to make more sense geographically.  Adding Russell County would make sense too.

Mercer, Harrodsburg, and Burgin came into the region in 1982. The Laurels and Russell both left and Jessamine entered in 2006. I doubt Russell County will return just because they're central time and no one else in the region is.

Guest scored 28 in the first meeting and 22 in the second, hitting 8 three-pointers in 17 attempts across both games. Garrard will have to defend, control the pace, and make shots. This should be a good game - it usually is when these two get together.

    • Guest was held to 5 points and really only had one good look.
    • Garrard defended and rebounded well, in particular senior Chris Jones who hasn't played much this season but has very really solid the last few weeks.
    • It always helps to make shots and Garrard shot it pretty well most of the night.

I do think you could see something like this in the near future:

East, West, Trinity, Garrard, KSD or DCA

Boyle, Danville, Mercer, Burgin, KSD or DCA

Rock, Lincoln, Casey, Somerset, Pulaski here or in the bottom

Wayne, McCreary, Southwestern, Somerset Christian, maybe Pulaski

It will all depend on how the impending statewide basketball realignment shakes out. I can't help but think both the 9th and 11th Regions will lose some teams to balance the load. Depending on who leaves the 11th and where they go, it could have major ramifications on the 12th Region.

Grayson County v Edmonson County – Grayson won both regular season meetings by double digits and have been playing really well to close the season. They won 4 straight games, including a dominating win over Daviess County. Edmonson comes in winning 3 of their last 4, but are still double digit underdogs in this match-up. This is a heated rivalry game so anything could happen.

I believe there were multiple fan ejections from their district tournament matchup last season.

The Lakers have had some regular season success since back during the Ron Finley era, but that has never led to any postseason success.  I don't think they have ever made it past the 2nd round of the playoffs.  Do they have over 5 playoff wins in their history?

    4-29 postseason record. First rounds wins in 2000, 2010, 2012, and 2013.

In most years, that number is 5 to 6 teams, but this year I think it’s 10 teams that can do that. There are 9 teams with winning records in regional play. And though Boyle is below .500, they clearly have enough talent to do so as well.

I’ll add, I don’t think 10 teams can win three games in a row (that number is smaller), but a couple first round upsets could put the entire tournament in disarray.
