Will Caliapri get any credit for Antonio Reaves turning into NBA Caliber talent?

Nah Cal doesn’t coach anyone up. Every player than Cal has coached that made the NBA has came to him NBA ready. Even players that weren’t suppose to be one and done type players, that ended up first round picks wasn’t because of him. Possibly other coaches could get credit for doing such a thing, but Cal just recruits and doesn’t know how to make players better.

He most definitely should. We tend to think Cal has more coaching success with point guards but the improvement of Reeves from just a shooter to someone who can get to the basket, finish at the rim, make floaters and pull-ups, etc. has to be credited to someone. His improvement has been great to watch.

My goodness a 50 point win over the top ranked team in the 5th region.

I watched it on YouTube. It was close for 1.5 quarters then Lyon put some distance between the two before halftime. In the third quarter, the Lyons absolutely blitzed Adair. It seemed like they made every shot.

Agreed on the best win. The UNC game might be best team they've beaten, but winning AT Auburn is so huge. Never trailed, led for almost the final 38 minutes.

Definitely. I was nervous the entire time but in hindsight it was really never in doubt. Every time Auburn cut it to 5-6, Kentucky immediately answered.

Didn't expect a beat down in this game. Manual going to be tough out in 7th Region Tournament.

Crimsons looking for their first region title since 1972 and only second since 1959. As always, the 7th Region tournament will be an absolute gauntlet.

Read today where Mick Cronin's name was being floated as a possible replacement.   That would mean the OSU would have taken UCLAs head football and basketball coach in less than 6 months.  All's fair in love, war, and TV revenue.

    Conference rivals!

Was really hoping the Reds would be on Prime.  Are there any streaming services that carry them?

I picked up Fubo last season because it carried the Reds on Bally. Fubo doesn't have TNT or TBS so I'm probably going to jump off during March Madness (maybe go to YouTube or something else) then jump back on Fubo once basketball ends and baseball starts. I'd love for the Reds to eventually get to Prime.

I had the wrong name. It's Steve French.  His father is Larry French who has previously coached at both Lincoln and Boyle. That's just a name I've heard mentioned.  No confirmation on interest or application.

Gotcha. Thought that might be who you meant but wanted to confirm.

As of today, I believe PT has the best shot to put an end to Boyle's run.  I like Boyle's chances but I think PT has a better shot than the rest of 4A.

Agreed. I wish we could have seen a Tilghman/Boyle game last year. I know CovCath beat Tilghman, but football is all about matchups and I think those two would have played an entertaining game.

His name used to be brought up as a potential replacement for Calipari at Kentucky. I guess he's off the list.

Honestly, my first thought yesterday was if Ohio State might contact Calipari. Money wouldn't be an issue and they might see that the UK/Cal relationship isn't what it used to be. Perhaps a splashy, big name hire might help get Buckeyes basketball closer to where football is.

I don't think Cal would go but I do think I'd kick the tires if I was Ohio State.

What does the 45th district tournament look like now? As far as matchups. I know DCA is the one seed, but how does the rest shake out?

    1. DCA

    2. Boyle/Lincoln

    3. Boyle/Lincoln

    4. Danville

    5. Garrard

    6. KSD

Not sure who will finish 2/3 due to tiebreakers. Whoever is 3rd has to play KSD, but they'll win that with ease, so you can go ahead and prepare for a Lincoln/Boyle district semifinal.

Garrard and Danville will play each other with the winner facing DCA in the other semifinal. I believe the district meeting to set dates, times, etc. is next Wednesday, February 21.

Talked to someone at the Lexington Catholic tournament who said he thought Fleming County was the best team in the 16th Region. Looks like 5-6 teams in the region have similar records. Would you agree that Fleming is the best or is there someone else?

Fleming is making a case as the team to beat in the 16th

And one of those 24 straight home wins was over Mason County in early January.

I made the above post on January 7. Several others said that Fleming had good pieces, it just hadn't been put together yet. I looks like they are firing on all cylinders now.

Trinity Christian's facilities are worse than Burgin's and that is saying something.  Really neither place should host any post season tourney.

There will be no disparaging of the beautiful Jack Coleman Gymnasium at Burgin High School on this forum, sir! 😂

Honestly, it does surprise me that they host the district tournament (All A and holiday tournaments are a different matter).

Let's get your votes in! Does anyone think Oldham County can go to St. Xavier and come out with a win? This is a very big matchup and should be a very tight contest! St. Xavier is also coming off a tough matchup versus Male last night which couple play out in Oldham County favor?

Might like Oldham County's chances better if it were a home game. However, catching St. X the night after their game with Male might negate the home court advantage. I think I'll take St. X but in a really good ballgame.

For all the heat on Calipari as a coach, there are two things that he is good at:

    1. Team chemistry. He gets the prima donnas to buy into the team and play hard for each other.

    2. He has good defensive teams.

So why is this team so bad at defense? Can it be fixed, or at least improved? How?

I think Cal's best defensive teams always had a top-tier rim protector. That allowed Kentucky to overplay and put more pressure on the ball because they knew there was protection in the back. They haven't had those top-tier shot blockers in recent years (even this year with 3 7-footers) and I think it has made the defense look even worse.

How many of us looked forward to Big (East) Monday on ESPN back in the day?

Big East game at 7, Big 8 game at 9, and a Big West (usually UNLV, New Mexico State, maybe a Loyola Marymount) game after Sportscenter at 11:30!

Is Boyle second in the district? Or did you mean tied for second? I don’t know how they’d be above Lincoln.

    Standings going into tonight:

    1. DCA (7-0)
    2. Boyle County (4-2)
    3. Lincoln County (4-3)
    4. Danville (2-5)
    5. Garrard County (0-7)

    Games remaining:

    • Garrard County at Boyle County (tonight)
    • Lincoln County at Danville (tonight)
    • DCA at Boyle County (February 13)

DCA is already the #1 seed. Boyle and Lincoln will be 2/3 in some form; the 3-seed has to play KSD but it doesn't matter who that is, Boyle and Lincoln will play in the semifinals. Danville and Garrard will play in the first round with the winner getting DCA in the semifinals. So it is all essentially locked in right now.

    My guess Garrard plays hard.

They have all season. They are just very inexperienced and struggle to score. When their number two scorer got hurt, that made it even more difficult. I'm glad they haven't packed it in, though. Hopefully they'll put forth a good performance tonight. But as you said, it seems like Boyle is starting to round into shape after a bumpy first couple of months.
