  1. Talent may drop some but they are never too low on talent at E-town. Their new superintendent is an athletics guy (as well as an E-town alum and former coach) and he will do all he can to make sure they have success. The new Ford battery plant probably means school growth which in turn will likely draw some good applicants. It might be tough for a bit but this should draw quite a bit of interest.

Todd seemed to be very competitive the last few years.

Agreed. They've been much better in recent years after a long down period. Their district isn't too bad right now (Owensboro Catholic is great, but Fort Campbell and Edmonson are similar to Todd). Even the next realignment shouldn't treat them too bad because there's a whole lot of similar sized schools around them. I think there will be more interest in this job today than there was a decade ago.

Does anyone think there is a possibility the game gets rained out for friday afternoon? Game gets pushed to Sunday. Mayfield is determined to intimidate any opponent. Rain delays are undefeated

Never seen a rainout at the state finals. I have seen some bad weather. One year at Western, due to icy road conditions, they adjusted the schedule a bit but if it is just rain that won't happen.

I just read on Beachwood and Mayfield thread that Atwell is best QB of the 3 including LCA's wow...Beechwood's QB was the real deal best I have seen in a very long while, he knew how to not take sacks and throw the ball away, just football savy....but is his receivers better?

I’ve seen Owensboro Catholic and was very impressed. Atwell, in that offense, might be the best quarterback of them all. I’m not sure the receivers have blazing speed but they have excellent hands and run good routes. Mayfield will need to get pressure on Atwell but also contain his running ability. They have to stay close to the receivers. If they do that, they’ll win. But it’s definitely a hard task.

They even won a district title or two within the last 7 years or so, just never really sustained that success.

Another benefit to this job is that they tend to get put in favorable districts. Their numbers should keep them in 5A for a few more cycles and there really aren't too many strong 5A contenders in Central KY.

East Jessamine won their district in both 2016 and 2017, but lost in the second round both times. They've never played in a regional final, but have won first round games eight different times. What's funny is, in football at least, the Jaguars have been better than West Jessamine, which has never won a district title and has a 3-19 all-time playoff reocrd.

If you recall or were at that game, it started about 2:00 pm that afternoon.  I got to do the Daily Double and drove to BG about the 4th Quarter of this game.  I wish they still did that (play early games on Thanksgiving Weekend).  At Highlands, I got to meet LawnBoy and @gchs_uk9 and his dad.  Great people and atmosphere.

Hard to believe that was eight years ago. We went to Newport Catholic/Danville that night. I know it isn't really practical but I wish there were more semifinal doubleheaders on Thanksgiving Friday.

Auburn was a big favorite, right, what happened here?

New Mexico State is pretty solid and has played better and better as the year progressed. That said, there is no way they should go into Auburn and roll the Tigers that easily. Honestly, the game was never close.

Assuming both finishes their seasons without a loss, what happens in the CFP if Alabama beats Georgia in the SEC championship game?

This could challenge all "SEC bias" conspiracies. It is quite possible the Big 10 champ (Ohio State or Michigan) and the Pac-12 champ (Washington) will be undefeated. They would both make the playoffs. If a 1-loss Texas wins the Big 12, they'd have a road win over SEC champion Alabama so you have to think the Longhorns go to the playoffs. That would have to put Alabama in because they beat Georgia, but leave the Bulldogs at #5, right?

  9. Two teams that have made steady progress throughout the season. Early in the year there were "same old Station" threads on here and midseason there were threads about Ryle needing a new coach. Both teams have weathered their respective storms (even if it wasn't really that stormy) and are four quarters from a Thanksgiving practice. This could be one of the best games of the weekend, but I think Bryan Station has the slight advantage in a couple areas, plus playing at home. Give me the Defenders but its close.

Larry French is one of the best coaches all time in Kentucky. He will have his team ready but just not enough fire power to pull off the upset. Good luck to the Yellow Jackets.

Agreed. Middlesboro is solid but I'm not sure they are as good as they've been the last couple seasons. I don't think its a running clock but I'd pick Pikeville by three touchdowns.

I'm I the only one that thinks this game won't be very close? I think Boyle wins by 3+ Touchdowns, I might be wrong but that's the way I feel.

I think that's in the realm of possibilities, but I think it's more likely to be close. I could see Corbin winning, but not by more than 1 possession like I think Boyle is capable of.

I'm in line with both of you. I think Boyle is capable of winning the game by multiple scores, whereas I believe a Corbin win would likely be within seven points. In all likelihood I think it will be nip-and-tuck for three quarters before Boyle hits a couple big plays in the fourth quarter to put it out of reach.

I think Boyle/ACS in 2010 was like 13000.  This will not come anywhere close to that.

That was a perfect storm game for attendance with a high quality Boyle team and a best-in-school-history Allen County team playing just twenty minutes up the road. It gets forgotten in all the Boyle titles but that was a good football game.

Think I'm going to go this game haven't been to a Atherton game since 1979.. As much as I want Atherton to win think Owensboro has too many players for the Ravens. Hope I'm wrong.

1979 was the next to last year at Atherton for Dan Goble, really the last coach to have any success there before Anthony White. Goble was at Atherton from 1972-80 and posted a 47-48-2 record before leaving for Christian County. Atherton didn't have a winning season after Goble until 2021 (although they did finish .500 a couple of times). This season is their best since also finishing 9-1 in 1973, although a regular season loss to Central kept them out of the playoffs that season.
