Dayton has not won many playoff games recently. Kudos to them for going on the road and getting the dub.

This is now in a playoff win in three consecutive seasons (2021 - Ludlow; 2022 - Berea), but prior to that the last playoff win for Dayton came in the second round against Bellevue way back in 1998.

  2. Betsy Layne wins their first ever playoff game after ten previous trips all ended in first round defeats. They also won 10 games in a season for the first time, eclipsing the previous best of 9 wins in 2013. The Bobcats are coached by Jarredd Jarrell, who was a terrific quarterback at Prestonsburg several years back.

So I have a question. After the second round and they go to the RPI, do the brackets combine or do you stay in the same bracket until the state championship game?

After two rounds, the four "western" teams are paired up by RPI (1 vs. 4; 2 vs. 3) and so are the four "eastern" teams. Then for the semifinals, the final four teams are reseeded by RPI (1 vs. 4; 2 vs. 3). It is important to note that RPI locks in after the regular season so a team won't go up or down in RPI during the playoffs.

Hard to know what to expect from this 9-1 Jtown team.....their nine victories have come over teams that have combined for just 20 wins.   Only Louisville Holy Cross (5-5) won more than 3 games this year......of course, all this  means is that we truly have no idea how Jtown will perform against a team with a winning record.   It doesn't tell us whether they are truly good, or secretly bad.   Friday will tell a lot.

Jeffersontown is definitely improved from past years. They've scheduled properly, gaining victories and momentum, which will pay dividends in the coming season. They're doing it the right way.

That said, I think North Oldham will win by two touchdowns.

I wish it was top 2 teams in each district.  I'm sure they let 4 in for money purposes, but it creates a watered down product.  And ultimately, football is always discussing how to be safer.  Go to two teams, and there are less amount of games and risk of injuries.

I’ve long been in favor of 3 teams per district but they’ve allowed the top four for 33 years now so I doubt that will ever change.

When the KHSAA reclassified last, they said St. Henry would fall into the 2025-2026 realignment as a 2A team.

Just a reminder, the current alignment is only for two seasons (2023 and 2024). The plan it to completely realign again before the 2025 season. If St. Henry begins varsity play in 2025, it probably will be in Class 2A but it may not be the same teams that are currently aligned with Beechwood.

What I have heard, all be it  third hand, was that there will be an inspection sometime this week and if the stadium can pass, the game will be played at home.

I've heard the same thing, but I've got a couple of messages in to confirm.

This is wonderful if that is the case. I wondered if moving the game to Saturday might be because it wasn't completely finished but a day game would be easier to manage than a night game.

Feels like 5A playoffs will be fun. Don’t think any of the top teams are too good to get knocked off at any night.

I've thought all year it was a three-team race (Bowling Green, Highlands, and South Warren in some order), but every team below is more than capable of putting a scare into or even knocking off each other. Class 5A should be a very fun bracket to follow.
