He still has lots of talent returning at McLean and word that he will be getting some basketball players out! Hopefully McLean County does what it takes to keep him around!

I'll add that I don't know him personally (or what he might want to do), but we share a mutual friend who absolutely raves about him as both a coach and a person.

Zach Wagner or Marc Clark one of the two will wind up with this job.

Does Coach Wagner want to leave McLean County? Always thought he seemed happy. I believe he is a principal or assistant principal there.

Wagner would certainly seem like a good hire for Daviess County. He's done an outstanding job at McLean County and they have a lot of support and momentum right now. However, it is a small, rural job where talent runs in cycles.

Not really a game question, do they take a bus or plane to Nashville?

Good question. I know both football and basketball drive to Tennessee (football has made a tradition of stopping at the University of Cumberlands and holding a walkthrough-type practice). I saw a picture of a Kentucky bus at Vandy yesterday so I'm not really sure.

    Love Dennis Lehane.

I read his most recent book a couple months ago (Small Mercies). I had never read anything else of his so I decided to read him from Book 1 to the present. This was his first one and I'll describe it as okay, but I didn't love it.

I would say he would be a long shot.

If UK could offer him $1 million more than he makes, I'm sure he'd listen. But even with the expansion to 12 teams, making the playoff will be easier at Oregon than at Kentucky. And if he makes the playoff at Oregon he'll be in line for either a raise (negating the big UK difference) or a head coaching job (which will most certainly pay even more).

Because all of the community HS schools that came together in consolidation had basketball teams...Stanford HS may have been the only school to have played football.

LC historians can tell how many small communities had HS's before consolidation but there were quite a few.

LC is a large county land mass wise...lots of farming kids who had/have trouble attending summer practices...

Five high schools - Stanford in the county seat, Crab Orchard, Hustonville, McKinney, and Waynesburg Memorial all in the county. Only Stanford played football. Basketball has long been very strong in the county. I've spoken with multiple football coaches from Lincoln County over the years who said their roster was primarily Stanford kids with a much small percentage coming from out in the county.

  7. UNLV. I know they were cheating the entire time Tarkanian was there, but there should still be an appeal to playing in Las Vegas. However, seemingly every coach since Tark has been insanely boring and content to score 60 points per game and hope to win.

Much bigger than an All A hangover is the fact that Reddick didn't play. He's a big part of the offensive success.

After watching him hobble against Newport, not playing was absolutely the right decision. Sacrificing a couple wins over the next 2-3 weeks is worth it if you can have him back close to full strength for the postseason.

I would think you would have to be immediately eligible anywhere, otherwise that means any school at anytime can point their finger at a child and say you are no longer permitted to play sports.

Just a quick glance at the bylaws and I saw this. Most schools are probably very close to 20 school days into the semester. I wouldn't think they would be eligible to transfer anywhere if that timeline has already passed.

SEC. 4) DEADLINE FOR ENROLLMENT A student shall have legally enrolled as a bona fide full-time undergraduate student no later than twenty (20) school days after the beginning of the semester to be eligible during that semester.

Respect your list, but I’m curious why you put Bethlehem as a good job, but list Bardstown as a maybe.

Not him, but from an outsiders perspective, maybe competition level? It doesn't take as much to be in the top five in Class 1A comparative to the top five in Class 4A.

They'll do just fine in the 2A tournaments

The 2A tournament has had pretty low turnout relative to the number of teams eligible. In the tweet from Adam Wells it appeared that Murray was weighing their options on whether to participate in the 2A event or just play regular season games. I'm sure either decision will be fine for them. However, it will be odd to not see Murray in Richmond/Corbin at the state All A tournament each January.

However, Lyon County came up short, 50-48,  in a grind-it-out game against Newport in the semifinal round.  The Lions played without Jack Reddick in this one and his absence was certainly felt.  The Lions will look to bounce back in a battle of the region's top teams on Tuesday as they host Henderson County.

Reddick played almost the entire game against Newport (he sat for a brief spell at the end of the 1st quarter and appeared to get his ankle re-taped). However, he only took one shot and was obviously hobbled by injury. The team certainly suffered without his usual scoring.

I hope he don't take Coach Mills, a lot of Boyle kids will be really upset. They love him!

With the reasonable proximity of Boyle County to Pulaski County, I could see a situation where coaches might go with Burns to Pulaski. Of course Haddix won't having any trouble filling out a new staff at Boyle, either.

  14. Extremely impressed with Newport. They dictated pace the entire game and limited their turnovers. They rebounded well and made some key shots and free throws late. They are terrific.

As for Lyon County, if Jack Reddick can’t get back to better health they have a clear ceiling and aren’t a state championship caliber team. Only one shot taken (and clearly very gimpy) can’t take enough pressure off Perry and Shoulders.

  15. I believe this is a huge game for seeding implications in the district, too. Somerset is 5-0 in district play; Pulaski is 3-1 (I'm not seeing their second game with Rockcastle on the scoreboard). Rockcastle County will be a hard #3 seed to beat but the #4 seed Casey County is quite down this year. So lots riding on tonight both for January and for February.

  16. Ballard Memorial is like many other small schools in that talent ebbs and flows. They've not been good the last few years but they had winning seasons six times in eight years between 2008-16. Between 1998-2002 under Jack Haskins they were a consistent contender to win one or two playoff games each season. The plus of this job is they are currently in a Class 1A district that is far-flung - Fulton County, Russellville, and Caverna - but not chock full of powerhouses. There are no Mayfields or Murrays in Class 1A western Kentucky. Best of luck to Coach Hedges!

We pay about $80 for Hulu Live now that we've ditched Direct.  $12 per month for Amazon Prime.  $6 per month for Peacock.  $5 per month for Paramount.  $5 per month for Shudder.  About $110 per month total.

Previously, we were paying about $150 for Direct.  But if we jump in with Netflix, we're going to change something.  Probably go from Hulu to Sling.

Yeah, I was joking in the earlier post. I do think I'm way ahead right now of where I was when I had Dish Network. However, if more and more sports move to streaming services then I think I'll end up being a loser in all of this. And it certainly looks like more and more sports are moving.

I realize that is a lot of money and hard to pass up but I think this is what happens when a mom and pop business goes full corporate.  The corporate powers that be squeeze every penny out of it with no regard for their fan base.

I was really tired of spending $150 per month on cable. Now I have six separate streaming services that each cost $25 per month to watch all the stuff I missed from cable. I'm saving tons of money! 😀

In 7 games from 11/24 vs Marshall through 12/29 vs. Illinois State, he was averaging 9 shots a game.

In 6 games during SEC play from 1/6 vs Florida through 1/23 vs South Carolina, he is average 4.5 shots a game.

Literally cut in half since conference play started.

Is he being guarded closer by better players in conference play and not necessarily great at beating people off the dribble?

I do agree with @bugatti that he passes up some looks every game that I wish he would go ahead and let fly.
