  1. I feel like 20 years ago we would have continued to play and at least made it into the 4th quarter before weather stopped the game. But, as mentioned, rules are rules, and the weather rules are a lot different than they used to be. If the teams had waited out the weather, it would have been 11:30 or 12:00 before play resumed. I don't feel that it's right to make kids have to warm up again and prepare to play again under those circumstances. I hate that we didn't get to witness what I felt like was going to be a fun second half, but I think the parties involved made the only decision they could. A disappointing way to end the series, for now. I hope the two schools can get back on each other's schedule in the future.
  2. Caldwell had its chances, even with Javonte Riley not playing, but Christian just has so much speed. I don't think Caldwell will see anyone else all year with that much team speed. Christian is a little undisciplined at times, but they can sure run the athletes at you.
  3. Caldwell County still plays soccer at Butler Stadium. The wall is still there, but things look a little different on the inside these days. :lol2:
  4. Wow! Lucas Oil Stadium and Tiger Stadium in Princeton in back-to-back weeks! Lucky.
  5. SS - Josh Young - Caldwell County (Tigers' leading hitter last year, signed with Pikeville)
  6. Hopkins Central played really well the last three quarters after a slow start. Defensively they pressed Caldwell all night and forced 30 turnovers. The Lady Tigers had a terrible night shooting the basketball, but Hopkins Central is a tough matchup because of their athleticism and ability to knock down outside shots. Caldwell just does not have any consistent scorers to keep them in the game against a solid team. Even when the Lady Tigers got good looks, they couldn't make them. Caldwell is a scrappy team. It's not for lack of effort, but when you can't put the ball in the hole it's almost impossible to beat a good team. Meanwhile, Central has a couple of players who can create their own shots and a couple who can shoot from the perimeter. Once they got rolling against Caldwell it was over.
  7. I don't think this changes the rankings any, just pointing out the error in the Caldwell/Trigg game.
  8. I forgot about Saturday's Calloway County game. But before that Caldwell had won 3 of 4. The KHSAA Scoreboard site is wrong. Caldwell's girls beat Trigg County 56-40 in Princeton. I was at the game, took pictures, kept stats and wrote a whole story on it. :lol2: Lady Tigers outrun Trigg, Tigers falter in 2nd half - The Times Leader: Sports
  9. Caldwell County's girls beat Trigg County and have won three of their last four.
  10. From Caldwell County: Dee Cain, LB, Western Kentucky; Elijah Anderson, TE, Lindsey Wilson; Jordan Felker, OL, Campbellsville; Chris Logsdon, K, Kentucky Wesleyan.
  11. One hell of a ballgame. Whichever team won was going to feel fortunate to get out of there with a win. Both teams made plays, but both teams missed chances and turned the ball over. Congrats to E-town for the win and for several players and coaches from the Panthers helping pick Caldwell players up off the ground and consoling them after the final horn. An emotional rollercoaster for both sides.
  12. I actually could see one side or the other winning this game by 20-21 points. If one team gets up a couple of scores in the second half and the other side starts pressing or panics, I could see one side getting a cheap score out of it and pulling away. Football is weird like that sometimes, which is why comparing final scores isn't always a great indicator. For instance, I think Paducah Tilghman is a lot closer in talent to both Caldwell and Elizabethtown than the scores show. It's also why it's difficult to determine just how good Caldwell's defense is or is not. When the Tigers get up on people, they sub a lot on defense and special teams and give up some cheap scores. It doesn't really matter if you beat somebody 61-24 or 61-39, you still win, but it does have an impact on stats, ratings and things like that. I THINK this game will be a 45-42 type game, because I think both defenses are going to have their hands full Friday night. But it wouldn't surprise me to see a 42-21 score either.
  13. Agreed. And the win at 6A Henderson County was a pretty good win for Caldwell as well. I think there was some concern going into the season that Caldwell might get overwhelmed by its schedule, which is considerably tougher than the last 2 years. But looking back, those games against quality opponents really helped make Caldwell a pretty good football team. Not sure if that means anything as far as winning or losing this week, but I do know Caldwell has gotten better this year as a result of its schedule.
  14. Litkenhous last week had Caldwell at 109.7 and Elizabethtown at 107.0. It's obvious the computer doesn't know about E-town's superior talent at every position. Looks like a toss-up to me. I'm just going to say first team to 50 and leave it at that. :lol2:
  15. Shane Burns passed for 493 yards and 4 touchdowns for Caldwell. That's almost as good as that Sinclair or Singular kid Caldwell had years ago.
  16. Caldwell's defense has been pretty solid against the run this year. Mayfield hurt them throwing the ball in the second half of that game. Tilghman had some success throwing it before their starting quarterback was hurt. Outside of those two games and maybe Christian County, Caldwell has gotten a pretty good rush on the QB and hasn't given teams a lot of time to throw the football this year. Caldwell has actually been pretty good up front on both sides of the ball this year and is a little quicker overall than the last few years. The Tigers are young in some spots, but those kids have pretty much played a full season by this point. From what I've watched of Adair, I think they can hit some big plays and put some points on the board. Not sure I see enough speed on defense to consistently stop Caldwell's offense. Teams that stop System offenses typically have good overall speed on defense and tackle well in space. I'm not sure Adair has seen a spread offense like Caldwell this year, so it will be interesting to see their game plan defensively. I'm going to say Caldwell pulls away late 50-24.
  17. If memory serves, everything from Bowling Green to Owensboro and west of that was originally in the WKC years (and years) ago. But I think the WKC now only extends as far east as the Christian County and Hopkins County schools.
  18. Just on what I've seen of both teams, I like Paducah Tilghman. However, Tilghman can be kinda flaky. World beaters one week, down the next. Tough to call, but I like Tilghman by a TD, just because I think they have more athletes.
  19. Looks like we can expect a ton of points next week at Caldwell County.
  20. Caldwell County and Hart County have never met in football. I don't really remember any meetings off the top of my head in other sports either. Have a safe trip to Princeton Hart fans and be sure to hit Pagliai's before the game. It's right off the Interstate (formerly called the Parkway).
  21. I'm not sure I'd be so quick to dismiss Union County. The Braves are pretty good on defense, especially against the run, and can control the clock with their offense. They have a few more athletes than you may think. I also think they are pretty well coached. The only big head scratcher for me this year was the lopsided loss to Madisonville. Outside of that, Union's only losses were to Caldwell County and Paducah Tilghman. Adair might be 9-1, but the only decent team they've played is Elizabethtown. And Adair lost that game 43-15. I believe Adair has to be able to throw the ball effectively to beat Union. I think this game is a lot more even than some people might think.
  22. On No. 1, the F word was used. That'll get you a flag every time. Of course, the face mask penalty should have been called also. I was going to write out a list of everything the officials did wrong Friday night, but my hands started to cramp. :lol2: Also, I agree that PA guys shouldn't do play by play.
  23. Thanks for doing this each week! I enjoy being able to easily read about each team, and I know it's a thankless (and almost impossible) job to try to rank teams in different classes. I also know how much time it takes to do something like this, so just wanted to say thank you for your efforts this season!
  24. Also, the line of scrimmage was the Mayfield 31. The flag landed at the Mayfield 30 — behind the line of scrimmage.
