  1. 3W is right on this one. It was every bit as bad as the score indicated.
  2. Well if they don't know football, then they probably don't know good football either.
  3. Mtnfootballfan, you do realize that voters in the AP poll gave Adair County votes in both the 3A poll and the 2A poll. These guys don't even know which class the teams are in.
  4. You asked the question whether Cov. Cath actually upset anybody. I pointed out to you that even in defeat they showed they were quality. I don't know how that didn't accurately reflect what you posted. You held up the AP poll as a measuring stick to our poll. I typically don't use things as benchmarks that I don't believe to be reliable. You held up the AP poll for us to compare ourselves to to show "regional bias". If the AP poll isn't reliable then how can it point out anything to us? I thought it was very funny that the day you challenge us to compare ourselves to the AP they publish the Adair County blunder. No I didn't miss that fact at all. In fact I followed it pretty closely last year. To start the season last year Lawrence posted unimpressive wins against P-burg and Leslie County. This was when Lawrence was healthy. Sorry top 10 3A teams look more impressive against 2A teams, even above average 2A teams like P-burg than this. Even if they returned everybody they were not impressive last year. No I read them in detail. These were your words: What other results would suggest that this region was thougher than anybody understood? Yes, you did go into page after page with your argument, however, detailing LC's overtime victory over Sheldon Clark does little to convince me of how either team compares with the elite 3A teams. It does nothing to prove it either. Let's assume everything you say is true, all it says is that Russell was incorrectly ranked. Where does NKY bias factor in? Because we had Lloyd ranked? Maybe Llloyd wasn't top 3 in the state with Breathitt, Mason and Russell, but I saw Lloyd last year, they had a very good team and were without a doubt top 10 material. There was no bias. Remember just because you are paranoid doesn't mean that everyone isn't really out to get you. They always do. By the end of the season every team knows exactly how good they were and get all the recognition they deserve. However, like I said before the ones who scream loudest about pre-season/mid-season polls are typically people who think there team is better than it is. The exceptions to this rule are few. Seasons where Lawrence County has had good teams they have never gone unnoticed in the polls. We are all human, but as we have stated over a over, the NKY folk on the panel are harder (not eaiser) on NKY teams. So if my bias enters into my decisions at all, it isn't at all like you think.
  5. Thanks mhigh. The one think I know for sure is that we put the teams in the right classes. Too bad the same can't be said for other polls.
  6. Do we rank teams base on wins and losses or how good they are? If your asking who did they actually beat rather than how did they do against top competition then you care more about wins and losses. Plus, that is probably why you like the AP which tends to like wins and losses more than we do. Cov. Cath played Lex. Cath to a 2 point game at Lex. Cath. The same Lex. Cath. team beat Danville by 5 (a feat which evenutal state champ Boyle couldn't do) and lost to eventual state 4A runner up Male by 14. Does that tell you anything? Does it tell you as least as much as Lawrence County's 2 td win over Prestonburg? How about as much as as Lawrence Count's 2 td win over 6-5 Leslie County? Trinity hasn't won a game, but I feel confident they are a good team. Cov. Cath had a 500 season, but I feel confident that they were a good team. Your entire argument that EKY teams didn't get the love they deserved last year is built on the Highlands/Rockcastle game, which would be easier to buy into had Rockcastle not also killed Bell and Boyd in the two weeks prior to the Highlands game. Maybe the Juggs fans didn't think their season would end in a lopsided loss to Mason, but many of the rest of us did. As far as Russell, there were many of us who knew Russell had a great team last year. However, I will admit that I was one of those that thought Mason would win the second game. Mason also had a very good team and the games were close. How is that not giving Russell any love? I don't know for sure, but I would guess that Russell was ranked virtually the entire year in our poll. There was nothing on Lawrence County's resume last year that you make someone immediately sit up and take notice that they would be contenders this year. They went 7-3 against a very soft schedule. As far as Sheldon Clark, maybe they should have been considered higher. The win over Ashland and the close losses to Lawrence and Bell suggest that if they returned a solid core of talent and with the drop to a weaker 2A then they could possibly contend. However, I don't follow 2A very closely and I don't participate in the 2A rankings. Actually you do have something right. Well sort of. Polls like the AP do vote you based on name recognition. In 2001, Highlands was ranked number 1 simply because they had won 3 straight. However, the BGP poll does not do that. This year we started Paducah Tilghman off in the number one spot, despite the fact that Boyle returned their core and would be solid. Why? We thought PT would be better. Watusi gave you the stats. Those of us who live in NKY tend to be harder on our teams than people from other parts of the state. We tend to set the bar for goals that actually mean something rather than skewing a poll to make our teams look better in preseason/midseason polls. The majority of the people who complain about polls support teams that they think are better than they actually are.
  7. Exactly why were Cov. Cath's and Lloyds season's disappointing. Lloyd lost three games. They lost to NCC, who was a top 10 single A school, they lost to Dixie who was a top 10 4A school and they were eliminated in the playoffs by Mason County, who by all accounts was the third best 2A team in the state. Lloyd also beat Beechwood. I don't remember where Lloyd ended the season ranked in our poll, but the only thing disappointing about Lloyd's season was they were in the wrong side of the bracket. The strong side. Cov. Cath did not have a great record, but Cov. Cath played a brutal schedule. They lost to Moeller (no comment needed), they lost to Columbus DeSales (Columbus power and recent state champ in OH), they lost to Dixie (who gave Trinity their best game last year) and they lost to Highlands. When the dust cleared Cov. Cath entered the playoffs with a 500 record and a second place finish in their district. In the second round of the playoffs Cov. Cath lost to Lexington Catholic at Lexington Catholic by 1. Do you want to guess who was the consensus number 1 pick in every 3A poll at the end of the season last year? Despite the record I seriously doubt there were 10 better 3A teams in the state than Cov. Cath last year. Your memory is short HE. So short that you fail to remember how good these teams were last year. These teams were both very good last year. Lloyd isn't as good this year, but neither is 2A. Cov. Cath was good last year and they are better this year. They are ranked because they are good. Even though you wantt to think there is some type of bias, it is more a product of your own mind than anything that really exists.
  8. I'm not wanting to give you argument. J/K I know I am. All I am telling you is that this: 1. Where they finished last year 2. Where they finished last year 3. Where they are this year 4. Where they are this year 5. Where they are this year 6. Where they are this year 7. Where they are this year 8. Where they are this year 9. Where they are this year 10. Where they are this year is not a very good method for ranking teams.
  9. Mtnfootball: You need to make up your mind. Are you talking about football tradition or how good Pikeville has been recently? As far as tradition goes, Pikeville has done real good winning state championships and dominating back in the 1980's, but Pikeville ain't had near the teams since then. Yeah, they still get a lot of wins every year because they don't play much of a schedule. But when they get to the playoffs they get beat and usually get beat bad. The only game I can think of when Pikeville didn't get beat by more than 2 touchdowns was that game against Beechwood about 4 years ago. Plus there were a couple of years where Beechwood killed them and one where M'boro killed them too. Pikeville has a good tradition, but its been awhile since their teams were as good as their traditon.
  10. 3W: I really don't want to argue Hopkinsivlle vs. Rockcastle County. You are free to think whatever you want, however, if the BGP King of the Carpet would have come down to a Hoptown/Rockcastle matchup the last two years I would have taken Hoptown both times.
  11. Hopkinsville was also way better than Rockcastle the past two years if you look at how the games between them and Boyle went as well as people who saw both of them play (other than the Rockcastle County faithful). However, you still have Rockcastle ranked 2, because they were the best team in the East. Be consistent. If you are going to rank the 3A teams on how they finished last year and you have Rockcastle ahead of Hopkinsville. Then Highlands should be ahead of PT. It has nothing to do with who is better it has everything to do with consistency. :thumb:
  12. Then shouldn't Highlands be number 4 after all if you are ranking based on how they finished last year Highlands was the other semi-finalists. This makes less sense than any any ranking I have seen on BGP this year.
  13. If this is true the gap between your 8 and 10 points is about 39 points. At least tonight it was.
  14. I and many expected Mason to dominate and look good doing it which they have. As far as Lawrence County, I have one question. How good is Bourbon County? Because if Sheldon is good and Bourbon is only 6 points worse, Bourbon must be pretty darn good too.
  15. I haven't put together where I think teams should be ranked, but off the top of my head: Teams that are showing they are every bit as good as we expected and more: 1. Boyle County 2. Paducah Tilghman 3. Mason County Teams that have shown that every piece of the puzzle might not be in place yet. 1. Highlands 2. Hopkinsville 3. Cov. Cath Verdict is still out on 1. Lexington Catholic 2. Rockcastle County 3. Lawrence County 4. Bell County I have not included Oldham or Bowling Green. I think we will have a better feel for them after tonights game.
  16. TB: Why do you think this team has a tendency to start very slow in games? This is the third game I have been to this year where they have had miserable first half performances (Mason, NCC, and Rose Hill)?
  17. My wife and I met working a summer church camp at two southern baptist youth camps. Cedarmore in Bagdad (Shelby County) Jonathan Creek off of Lake Barkley (Marshall County) Both places will always be special to me.
  18. Great post CR! One of the best I have ever read and I mean that. Just curious, but. Didn't Elder scout Trinity the week before?
  19. There is no difference for a kid like Ruby. However, there is a world of difference for Nevels. If he pays tuition and doesn't switch his residency then he can't play sports for a year. If he sets up residence (with his family) he can play.
  20. Obviously I follow Highlands and high school sports pretty closely, but I can only think of a few high school athletes that have ever transferred from Highlands. Christian Stephanopolous (Girls B-ball) went to Boone Co. There was a kid who went to Newport about 5 years ago and was a boys B-ball player. Can't remember his name, but it will come to me. Brad Carr (SK coach) played freshman ball at Highlands before transferring to Holmes. Mid-80's. David McDowell played freshman b-ball and football at Highlands before transferring to Cov. Cath. Was a very good kicker for Cov. Cath. Mid-80's. Brett Baker played freshman b-ball and football at Highlands before transferring to Lloyd. Mid-80's.
