  1. This one may be closer than people expect. Western has a stout defense. Ballard 21 Western 14
  2. Barring a weather event like a torrential downpour and a muddy field, I just don't see any team coming within 3 TDs.
  3. Surprising outcome. I wouldn't have been surprised if Manual won by 2 TDs.
  4. Since X and T like to schedule their tilt about the 3rd week in Sept and Male/Manual is always end of Oct/early Nov, I would think there wouldn't be any problems with overlap. And I would hope that the KHSAA would bend over backward to let members of this disproportionally-loaded district set their rivalry games with a reasonable amount of latitude. Of course, every district game in this district will be a rivalry game! ;-)
  5. Male/Manual is typically the last game of the regular season, and I don't see the new district alignment changing that. They have played the game in that slot continuously sine the last Thanksgiving Day game in 1980.
  6. Here are the avg KHSAA football playoff revenue numbers for the six years the game was at PJCS in Louisville: X/T games (03, 05, 07): $322,431 non X/T games (04, 06, 08): $244,207 Difference: $78,225 ( And keep in mind this is for all classes The takeaway is that having an X/T final doesn't make or break the KHSAA's year
  7. Easy, big fella. The purpose of my post was not to spew venom or to express irritation at being chosen to help fill out this 'Murderer's Row' district. It was to soberly point out to the X and T fans who feel singled out and choose to criticize the KHSAA that things could be a whole lot worse for them and that accommodations made by the KHSAA have gone a long way toward neutralizing the animosity toward the privates regarding the sport of football. If my post came off as an exposition of hatred toward the privates, that was not the intent.
  8. Exactly. I pointed this out in another thread: http://www.bluegrasspreps.com/showthread.php?209876-The-Fallacy-of-the-T-and-X-Fans&p=3918435&viewfull=1#post3918435
  9. Check your facts. The KHSAA's 2009 finals stats (X vs T in BG) reports an attendance of just under 10,000 (9962). Ref: http://www.khsaa.org/football/2009/6afinal.htm The 2008 finals in Louisville between Simon Kenton and Trinity drew 11556 spectators. Ref: http://www.khsaa.org/football/2008/6afinal.htm
  10. I think the real fallacy of the T and X fans has been displayed by the ones complaining about the KHSAA preventing them from being able to meet in the finals. These folks should be kissing the KHSAA's behind for looking for ways to quell the angry crowd with torches and pitchforks that voted for split public/private championships in 2007. The switch to 6 classes and the reduction in the number of teams in 6A in this proposal have decreased the number of programs affected in the largest class. Rather than bellyaching, these folks should be counting their lucky stars they're not in a district with Christian Academy and Owensboro Catholic right about now.
  11. I don't think the game is worth anywhere near $200,000. The KHSAA's own financial statements put total revenues from all classes at about $300,000 even in years when there was an X/T final. In other years, football playoff revenues have been in the $250,000 range. This is nothing compared to the $1.5 million brought in by the boy's Sweet 16.
  12. That department was outsourced last year.
  13. I don't think anyone at KHSAA would argue that this 6A alignment is intended to minimize driving distance for district games. It's a little laughable to complain about driving a few extra miles when there are districts in other classes where the opponents are all much farther apart than any two schools in Jeff Co. This was clearly a thinly-veiled move to ensure that T and X cannot meet in the finals. I suspect that if there was one more school from the greater Louisville area, we might have seen a return to something like the "Jeff Co champ vs State champ" arrangement from the early days of 4A. Other than Dunbar in district 2, every team in districts 2, 3, 4, and 5 could have formed one side of this bracket. Then, it may not have been necessary to load up one district with Male, Manual, St X, and Trinity.
  14. The Sweet 16 dwarfs the football playoffs in terms of revenue generation for the KHSAA. Looking back on the past several years' KHSAA financial reports, the Sweet 16 usually generates around $1.7 million, while revenue from all classes of football typically brings in around $250K. Even in years when St X and Trinity have met in the final before 20,000+ spectators, revenue for all classes was about $300K. Considering the fact that total KHSAA revenue for 2008-09 was $4.5 million, the incremental revenue from an X/T final wouldn't amount to more than one or two percent. The X/T football final revenue effect has been overstated.
  15. According to the KHSAA's 2009 financial statements (http://www.khsaa.org/reports/auditdocs/khsaafs2009.pdf), all football playoff revenue amounted to $245K, about 5% of total revenue ($4.5 million).
  16. Tweets this afternoon by the Louisville C-J's Jody Demling: "If what I'm hearing from MULTIPLE sources is correct the high school sports world in Louisville better prepare for a bombshell on Monday." 11:59 AM Oct 2nd via TweetDeck and "Not recruiting related. Can't confirm specifics yet but it's a fact the new football realignment is out Monday." 12:04 PM Oct 2nd via TweetDeck Anybody have any insight into what Jody is referring to? Speculation elsewhere is that 6A powers Trinity and St X could wind up in the same district. :scared:
  17. X lost to Male 40-0 in 1986 and recovered to win the state championship that year.
  18. I agree it was an ugly loss. I didn't attend the game, but I wonder if there was a little bit of a letdown from the Central, St X, and Ballard games the past 3 weeks. That's no excuse for losing a game you probably should have won. Male needs to develop more of a passing game to be successful later this season.
  19. Beginning of the end for St X?!? Come on, Guru. That's the BGP equivalent of a tabloid headline! ("Tigers on life support, priest called to give last rites"). I know X is at a raw talent disadvantage, but they killed themselves with mistakes. If I recall correctly from the stats, they had 3 int and a lost fumble, as well as 5 total fumbles (which usually result in lost plays). Were football-knowledgeable people predicting the end of Trinity when they lost to X 48-16 in 2004 or when they started 0-4 in 2003?
