Heckuva lot of defense being played in Park Hills tonight.

The QB draw comment in the update thread made me chuckle! @Voice of Reason Park Hills Mafia didn’t know what to complain about yesterday with special teams dominating and QB draw going to the house.

I have been very critical of Engler over the years, as I believe he has wasted talent and great teams by underachieving year in and year out. With that being said, congratulations to Coach Engler on becoming the all time wins leader at Ryle but more importantly, as I stand here with my hat in hand as I believe this season (yes it is still very early) has been one of his best coaching jobs he has done. He has had far more talented and complete teams, yet he is finding a way to get it done. First the Colonels, now the Bluebirds. I hope he can keep it going, and advance far into the playoffs. Cannot have another season with an early exit. Congratulations Ryle, an enemy of my enemy is my friend!

Although true for most football games, in CovCath/Highlands Rivalry, the game always comes down to 2 things. There will be a huge momentum changing turnover tonight, whoever has it benefit them will have a 98% chance of winning. And there will be a huge special teams play (blocked kick, punt return, or kick return, etc. ) that blows the thing open. Give me Colonels 21-20. Logan Sanning intercepts Highlands on a mid 2nd quarter WR screen that was bobbled and returns it 64 yards to the 6 yard line. Harney runs it in next play. Dylan Gaiser returns 2nd half kickoff 51 yards and Colonels go up top to Bradshaw the next play for a Colonels touchdown. Finally, late 4th, Highlands driving, busted play from the 23, TD Birds. Highlands goes for 2 and doesn’t get it with 2:15 left. Harney comes out victory formation shortly after. The Rubberband Man blares out over the speakers to what could be the largest crowd in Covington Catholic history. Disclaimer: I have no idea what I’m talking about, but as long as Colonels win, who cares!

Game 1, tough loss, but it’s also a process. New team this year, & in the grand scheme of things, Cov will learn far more from this than the game matters. Don’t lose faith. Have you ever considered that Eviston has his QB picked out well before the “know it alls” here on BGP and those writing for the LINKnky have a clue? Might be a wild concept for you and many others, but if you have ever spoken with Eddie, you’d understand quickly he’s very short to outsiders, and I don’t blame him with Park Hills Mafia running around. Yet we’ll sit here and sympathize DW for his firing. And your last point, the talk every year being 1) starting QB, 2) special teams 3) defensive backfield… isn’t that every team? Yet Coach Eviston & Co. manage to win every single year.

Hmm, they SHOULD BE, BUT not while their HBC is still there.

Coach Thelen will be teaching at least one class (I’d have to assume plug and place into Ruthsatz class) and expect to see most of the current staff stay in place.

Great person, coach, and family! Hats off to Bacigalupo and Rowe for getting this done, and rather quickly.
