  1. Sophomores and a junior made up all the scoring for Highlands. Soph qb to soph wr twice. If they would have counted Class’s TD, it would have been 3 soph to soph hookups
  2. I thought Campbell was a junior. Thats what MaxPreps says.
  3. Does a Highlands W over Ryle tonight cement their #2 status in the region? Common opponents appear to give Highlands the edge.
  4. Because the prior poster with knowledge on the NKMSAA said they have designated schools they have to pull from. I’m wondering who those are. The Raider fan has a valid point that it doesn’t really jive with their reasoning for excluding the Boone teams.
  5. Do we know the feeders? So there are no Ohio kids playing for CovCath, and no Kenton county kids playing for NewCath?
  6. I would also like the “designated schools” rule clarified if possible. It’s my understanding that any parochial school student can attend either NewCath or CovCath, which doesn’t necessarily sound fair or inline with what the NKMSAA is trying to accomplish. Are there indeed designated parishes that each school has to pull from? And if so, which are each school’s “feeders”?
  7. Totally agree. There is no difference. My personal opinion is that if the NKMSAA requires kids to attend the school they play for, they shouldn’t make exceptions for CovCath and NewCath. If you don’t have a middle school, then you can’t play in the NKMSAA. I don’t think CovCath would care, I’m not sure why they do anyway. All of their teams except for 7th play in the GCYFL. NewCath would be in a tough spot but it’s not the NKMSAA’s responsibility to accommodate them.
  8. Not sure. I’m not a fan of playing more than once a week.
  9. If that’s true, and the NKMSAA has a rule that only applies to teams in a certain county, that’s bush league. Any team should be able to play whoever they want, be it NKMSAA, Norsemen, NKYFL or FTJFL.
  10. Any NKMSAA team can play whoever they want. Highlands 7th and both 8ths played Boone Co, and their 7th grade team also played an out of state select team. The only league in Northern Kentucky restricting teams from playing one another is the NKYFL. And I agree that it is absurd. Cut the Raiders off at 6th grade, go all in with a Gray middle school feeder for Ryle, and play an NKMSAA schedule like the rest of NKY. And schedule whoever you want to outside of that.
  11. I don’t know if NKMSAA teams refuse to play them. They don’t NEED to play them. They already have a full schedule, and against teams who’s kids are all from the same school (minus CovCath and NewCath). I disagree with the NKYFL comparison. Those teams are not high school feeders. Some may want to be, but they have too many kids that end up at multiple high schools. So it’s not apples to apples. The Red Devils are a perfect example. They’re one of the most dominant teams in the NKYFL, but will send kids to Highlands, Campbell Co., NewCath, Beechwood, and so on. If I were in your shoes or a Norseman member looking to add more teams, I’d be going after CovCath and NewCath. They’re already on a slippery slope with the NKMSAA, as they are the only programs who aren’t really middle schools. They would be perfect for the Norsemen Conference.
  12. What’s the argument against middle school teams? It seems like a good chunk of these Norseman kids peel off and go somewhere else in high school anyway. Namely beechwood or covcath.
  13. It would be a lot more interesting if the 6 Boone County middle schools all fielded their own teams and played in the NKMSAA with everyone else. Each has the enrollment to do it. NKMSAA Teams… Bellevue Campbell County Covington Catholic Beechwood Dayton Brossart Bracken County Ludlow Newport Newport Central Catholic Sharp Highlands Holmes Tichenor Walton-Veron Summit View Twenhofel Turkeyfoot Woodland
  14. My guess is because at the time, there were only 3 or 4 other teams in the norsemen conference and they were all Boone co schools. NKMSAA has more teams and they’re closer to fort thomas. It’s also a true middle school league, and 99% of highlands players go to highlands middle school. The Norseman teams are made up of kids from multiple middle schools. That’s why they can’t play in the NKMSAA. You must attend the school you play for. Union Raiders isn’t a school.
  15. I agree. I don’t know much about him but “legit” seems fitting. Looks like a great hire. My only concern is longevity and not having to do this again any time soon. As I’ve stated before, I hope he plays a role in the junior league and is involved with the community. There’s no question he can coach. I believe he will, and that great things are in store for the birds.
  16. They are going to be very good in 2 years. Anyone who’s been watching, hopefully potential coaches, knows there is a lot coming. Both in talent and numbers. 7-8th had over 90 kids playing.
  17. So the kid jumped around to 3 different schools in 3 months, ends up back where he started, and loses his sophomore year of eligibility in football because he wanted garbage time at CovCath so desperately? Do I have this correct? Who the hell is advising this kid. Back off and let him have a life. Wow.
  18. Agreed. But I really don’t think anyone takes what is said on here seriously. It’s the opinions of the same 5-6 guys for the most part. Is it productive, absolutely not. But I think most can recognize that its just the ramblings of some folks with too much time on their hands. Highlands is a great job and the community support is amazing. Any coach who wouldn’t come here because of a single parent who is supposedly a poison pill, is not a coach worth hiring. This applies to any overzealous parent or community member. And they’re everywhere, not just Fort Thomas. You put them in their place, end it, and do your job.
  19. Doesn’t it make more sense that just maybe, of the multitude of candidates, Lickert was not in the top 5 or whatever. And they’re talking to their real number 3, 4 or even going back to 1? This isn’t a knock on Lickert. It just seems irresponsible to assume, and post negative stuff about the guy if he wasn’t even in serious consideration. I’m sure he’s bummed he didn’t get it, there’s no reason to make it worse.
  20. So what constitutes a “young coach”? Just curious. Because Lickert is 41 or 42. Barth is a couple years older. Weinrich was about the same when he got the job. I don’t really consider these guys young coaches. But thats just me. I’m also curious why this thread assumes Lickert was the number 3 choice, and the fact that they haven’t hired him means there’s bad blood or he has skeletons.
  21. Can’t say I see anything salty. I must be missing something. Looks like pretty standard fair for a coach on Twitter.
  22. Eddie James and Chris Wolfe. That’s the number getting tossed around in the fort. Maybe it was 23. Maybe 25. Who knows. I’ve heard 24 was the number from numerous people in passing and bs’ing about the hire. I’m surprised it’s the first you’ve heard, considering how quickly word travels. Maybe it travels slower during covid.
