  1. Lyon County is a young team that has its best days ahead of them. A few years back, the current freshman class steamrolled everyone at 6th grade MS state in Lexington. Honestly, they probably would have won 7th grade state and had a very good chance to win 8th grade state with that 6th grade team. They were that good. I believe 3 of those freshmen start for them now. Travis Perry is a nice player, without a doubt top 5 in his class. I believe he already has 1,500 career varsity points (or close to it) heading into his freshman year of HS. He's been starting since he was a 7th grader.
  2. Also agree 100%. Obviously everyone has stated their disagreement or even disdain for JCPS, but as far as the school itself, hard to find a better job than Male. He's in a good situation. Male has tradition, a very supportive alumni base and also his administration at the school is great. I've coached football with Male's current principal, Willie Foster. He is a former BE football player under Mike Egan, former head football coach at BC, Waggener and I believe asst. coach at St. X under Coach Glaser. He backs football 100%, so can't complain about that.
  3. I believe that meeting was really about everyone getting it on record they are against this so they are covered and free of any responsibility or accountability.
  4. We are safe right up until about 6 p.m. on 9/11. Then we'll cancel.
  5. Was it just me or did anyone else feel like nobody wanted to take responsibility in any of this other than the KHSAA? The superintendents talking about needing guidance, etc. I thought that's what they were paid to do is be leaders and help set policy and guidelines. Am I missing something?
  6. This is flipping ridiculous. Take a look at the states around us. I'm going to say it and some may not like it, but Tennessee, Ohio, Indiana, Missouri, Arkansas & West Virginia are all proceeding with football this fall with some already starting and some starting this Friday. North Carolina, Virginia & Illinois are all moving their fall sports to spring. What do the states proceeding forward in fall have in common & what do the states pushing off to spring have in common? The state of Kentucky will eventually cancel fall sports. It's coming so we might as well get ready for it. It will probably get moved to spring, if played at all, just like the common link states of NC, Virginia & Illinois. Let's be honest....I feel like our kids are nothing more than pawns depending on where you fall.
  7. I apologize, I actually meant to reference your quote about DeSales & CAL possibly moving their game to 9/11 to open up the 10/9 date. I believe CAL has already scheduled another game for 9/11 now since they cancelled the Ballard game.
  8. I'm about 100% positive, if it hasn't been announced yet, that Christian Academy already has another opponent for 9/11.
  9. Yet somehow states like Indiana, Ohio and Tennessee are pulling it off, but Kentucky can't.
  10. I think the "Let Them Play" movement did take everything into consideration. I feel pretty confident this is a risk that was known. Yes, Lawrence County football has to quarantine and they will more than likely lose a game or two, but they still have a shot to play after that. Plus there are still multiple other high schools throughout the state that are still on track to have a game on 9/11 and beyond. That's better than nothing.
  11. I would rather lose a 1/4 of a season due to a positive test and having to quarantine, than to have no season at all. Something is better than nothing.
  12. I understand that completely. I live in the metro area. But do you honestly believe based on the meeting last night that JCPS has intentions of playing this year and starting with everyone else? Or do you think they voted to proceed with some / many on that board knowing full well they'll probably either squash the season entirely or delay further when they meet in a few weeks? Everyone has to be sure they can do things safely. But most everyone is proceeding with intentions to play this year, but understand things can happen to change that. I'm not so sure JCPS is proceeding with that same intention. That's all I'm saying. Maybe I'm wrong about that, but I guess we'll see.
  13. I just wish JCPS had the common courtesy to understand that their decision affects more than just their schools.
  14. There are a lot of schools in that boat. I think many do have a plan B and even plan C as Tiger Pride stated.
  15. That's what I'm disagreeing with. You stated "any" and I'm simply stating just b/c you don't see it in your neck of the woods, wherever that may be, doesn't mean it's not happening other places. I know of more than a few in my area that have publicly advocated for in person school & athletics.
  16. I have to disagree. Although it might be true for some, that I can't argue, it's not true for all. When you say "any teachers", that simply isn't true. Sorry, hate to call it out, but I know a few that are for in person schooling and desperately want athletics to go on as soon as possible b/c of the benefits they know it brings to their students.
  17. Yep, I just hope they have the common decency to inform schools early instead of waiting a few weeks then letting them know. Much harder to find games at that point. Here's to a 6A district of Trinity, St. X & Bullitt East.
  18. I've always disliked the idea of flip flopping baseball and football. I think you're setting athletic programs, and in particular individual athletes, up to fail. I can't imagine having a football season that ends in May, then turning right back around and beginning one in July. The physical toll that would take on a kid would be very hard. Then could you imagine if a kid had a major injury like a torn ACL in the spring, he would lose 2 seasons of football b/c there's no way he would be ready to go by fall. Then there's the reverse of waiting 18 months in between baseball seasons. I'm of the opinion that we either play or we don't, but football stays in the fall if we do and if we don't, then the powers-that-be need to stop dragging their feet and pull the plug already. I know there are other factors that people are considering that go into the final decision (also factors people aren't considering like will there be a shortage of officials, etc.,) however delaying and dragging things out aren't going to make the situation any better. If we aren't going to play, make the decision so kids can start to get on travel teams that are forming. Dragging it out, I think, limits them playing at all, whether KHSAA sanctioned or not.
  19. They'll be pretty decent this year. Their 2 best players are back from last year. I would say they'll make a pretty decent case for the 2nd best team in Louisville, behind Trinity. I honestly think St. X & Manual are 2-3 or 3-2; either order. I think Manual will probably be the favorite over Male this year also. Just my opinion.
  20. Many school districts are taking it further than 9/28 unfortunately, so they're taking the recommendation and expanding on it. For example, Bullitt County has pushed back in person until 11/4 at the earliest. They will be NTI or Cloud Academy until that point. Once 11/4 gets closer, they might push back to the 1st of the year. There are probably many school districts in the same boat.
  21. Who is to say he doesn't think it's ok for his son? If his son is 18 years or older, then Dad can object if he wants, but son can play football b/c he's legally an adult and can make his own decisions. I can be a vegetarian and speak of the health benefits, but if I had an adult son and he chooses to eat meat products, that doesn't make me a hypocrite.
  22. I for one am not of that opinion....but Title IX is.
  23. I think that's a great idea. I for one would be in favor of an October 2nd first game date if it means we get to play and keep football in the fall. Play a 7 game schedule and then start playoffs on November 20th, but basically take out the 1st round by making it only district champs and runner-ups that make the playoffs. I know this would eliminate some teams from the playoffs and some are going to say that isn't fair, but very rarely does a 3 or 4 seed advance beyond week 2 of the playoffs anyway. If you take out the current 1st round, you could still wrap up the playoffs by December 13th, just a week later than normal.
  24. I'd say that, plus the fact that they're going to Corbin, Meade Co, Cov Cath, etc. makes it difficult. I'd say it's harder to win those toss-up games when you're on the road.
