This wasn’t what the Head Honcho predicted. I had only sat down with my first Pork Tenderloin sandwich when I saw that it may be another night of Polar Bears playing possum. We got off to a slow start and the panthers were so hot they melted the ice in the igloo. I imagine Coach was making the paint melt in the locker room when he was trying to get the boys right for the second half. Luckily, we’ve got 20 some more scrimmages before the real season begins!

Boys. The Polar Bears played 8 v 5 tonight. Those jokes of a ref we’re throwing out fans, T’ing up our players and we still couldn’t be stopped! This is what happens when everyone catches wind of Coach Reeds boys. The Refs even can’t stop us!! They’ve been some Polar Bears playing possum, and nights like tonight show us what we can do!!!

Nobody in this state has seen a team coached by Adam Reed come tourney time! This guy has more tricks up his polo shirt than David Copperfield. It won’t be long until they drop “Touchstone Energy” as the title sponsor and just call it the Reeds vs The World. When the pressure is on, and there is something on the line, coach Reed will get the best out of his boys.

Coaches like Belcher are playing checkers. Coach Reed is playing 3D Chess!!

Just shows how soft this modern generation is. It’s not a tournament? Sounds like the 39th district. Just luck of the draw and hope for the best. If it were a tourney I know that hardware would be coming to Brooksville. Coach Reed is a competitor and loves this game more than anyone!

Woo boy. A few months ago, when the Athletic Department announced we were playing the “Not Quite Hawaii” challenge, I spent a lot of time trying to find a good flight into “not quite” I hadn’t ever heard of that island before, but I figured even out there, those people KNEW Polar Bear basketball. So imagine my surprise, when it turns out the challenge takes place in Covington... whew. That wasn’t my finest moment. It won’t be long though, until the Polar Bears are invites to some nationally prominent tourneys like that. Coach Reed has us 4-8 and only getting better! We’re 10th in the state in scoring and when the boys buy in to his defensive system we’ll be in the top 10 for defense too before long! I’m looking forward to a great tourney in Covington, and the Polar Bears bringing home a trophy!

You get it! It’s just Polar Bears playing Possum. Coach Reed is playing Chess while the rest of the state is playing checkers. And buddy— come March, it’ll be CHECKMATE! And we’ll be playing in the regional.

As I rooted my Polar Bears with all of my might, I was reminded of a few things: 1- my Polar Bears are coached by the best. Coach Reed has his boys fired up and ready for every game. 2- it’s clear Coach Cooper taught that mountain school a thing or two about NKY hoops. Those boys can play. I’m figuring Coopers legacy of Polar Bear Basketball was what propelled them over the top. 3- it’s just another scrimmage. Coach Reed is smart. He knows that in a Draw District every game until tourney time is just a scrimmage. He’s using these opportunities to hone these boys into the perfect storm of ready!!

The head honcho is heading headlong into the Christmas Classic tonight in Brooksville! I’d love to buy you a pork tenderloin sammich if you’re in town for some top basketball action. The Polar Bears take on Wolfe County. Those mountain boys are coming to Northern Kentucky to learn some basketball! Fun fact: Warren Cooper, BC HOF’er was once the coach of their Basketball team. Fitting— he probably poured some BC knowledge into those boys, and they’ll find out the BC tradition tonight when Coach Reed and the boys pour buckets all over those Wolves!

Listen here snowsuit boy. Why in the honorable name of Jarvis Parsley do you think I’m poking fun? I’ve been court side for the incredible Daniel Fisher and Adam Reed All A run. I sat through misery in the Robert Hammonds era. I saw Deron Breeze fumble his way through a tradition he couldn’t handle. I watched players like Michael “Preacher” Cannon try to guard Chris Lofton and I saw Darius Miller refuse to cut down the nets in the igloo. I saw Armageddon the day Brossart and Pendleton drew each other in district, and I saw Jeremy Miles ruin a year of Austin Crawford. I stood with the best coach of the last two decades in Chad Persinger and I’ve always been True Blue! Our small A school has to fight for everything we get— I’m proud to be a polar bear, and I was engaged in the Kelsey vs Persinger GTown debate. Don’t EVER question my true loyalties!

Yyyyeeeeeheeeee! What a night at the igloo! The Polar bears came up short, but, we don’t seed our district. So this don’t amount to a hill of beans. It’s perfect, Coach Reed, who doesn’t yet know about the tattoo I’m getting with his jersey number from his playing days, played Kirk just like a fiddle. We put up 76 points. Blake Reed had 30, because there is no one in the 10th that can stop him. And it was all they wanted! What a special night. They’ll be talking about the night we retired Mr. Coopers Jersey for decades to come. Bracken county— its the greatest place on earth. Salt of the earth people, country hospitality and the best basketball coach in the state!

At the half it’s Mason 38 Bracken 22. Coach has these Polar Bears right where he wants them! Me? I’m at the concession stand eating a delicious pork tenderloin and admiring our beautiful hall of game!

If you don’t know what to do tonight you need to be in Brooksville. Woo boy the honcho thinks tonight will be special. No doubt the boys will be inspired by another incredible pep talk from the Adam “region eater” Reed. But they’ll be extra inspired by the incredible retirement of Warren Cooper’s #25 jersey. No school has a history of hoops quite like Bracken County. We’re darn proud of our history our 1939 state banner hangs proud. This basketball crazed community still remembers those glory days! I don’t know what Brian “Knees Knocking” Kirk has store for his royals tonight, but I can assure you; it won’t be enough. Bracken 85 Mason 55

WOOOOOO boy. The Honcho is still recovering from this game. Heart Attack city baby! I tell you what, it won't be long until Coach Reed is in the discussion across this state as one of the best coaches. That Man could coach a crew of amish folk on how to hotwire a car. He is amazing. I love watching him work with our boys. It makes me wish that I had a girlfriend, so I could have a son that could play for him. Beating a team like Villa Madonna from NKY is no small feat, I was so glad to be in that electric atmosphere last night. Big game coming up Friday against the Royals. I can't wait to see what kind of Magic Coach Reed has up his polo shirt Friday!

Jason “The Grease Pen Genie” Hinson proved he still had a hand up on his protege with the win. But it was a great game, a hard fought battle between two high quality 10th region teams.

The head honcho has returned! And I’m here to report. I was torn last night— to see my boys in blue whip in Bellevue, or, see two former Polar Bear Coaches battle it out. I’m still angry with Coach Elsbernd and Coach Hinson for leaving us, but, in their matchup yesterday I was reminded of the great year they gave us together on the bench. They won a district runner up trophy. An All A region runner up trophy. They gave us our first region win since that half court shot miracle in 1989, and, we beat the big old Campbell county that year. What a year that was. 17-15 record should get a banner somewhere for all the memories. I’m tearing up just thinking about how good that was. I can’t wait for the reunion 15 years from now when we honor that team!
