  1. I’m curious to hear your explanation behind Madison Central being “Overrated“. Is this based on the overall Top 25 rankings in the state, which they are currently not? Is this based on their ranking in 6A? Or is this based on RPI, which is computer generated? Madison Central is vastly improved team and really good hard nosed team but I don’t see where calling them “Overrated” applies. I do think they have the potential to really surprise some people. Furthermore, in most cases I would agree that a 6A team beating a 1A team is expected. But Pikeville isn’t a normal 1A team. Most people would agree. Ask LCA who is a really great team and Pikeville gave them a game. Pikeville has the size, athleticism and dress as many players as a 4 or 5A team and if I recall they are ranked in the over Top 25 in the state.
  2. Bourbon County played good defense, got stops and made some big buckets down the stretch. Don’t forget Bourbon did beat Mason (The #1 team in the Region per RPI) early in the regular season. Enough talent that if you don’t put away early can cause fits late.
  3. Per Travis Scaggs Tweet Here’s Week 9 and the Final Rankings of the 10th Region Boys Basketball Media Rankings. Clark Co is number one again receiving 12 first place votes. Mason Co received 7 first place votes. 19 voting members. All region media teams will be released later this week.
  4. Was Rowan missing any starters? Will say I’m surprised by this score. Great effort by Robertson if not.
  5. I agree! I’m not that surprised with the top 5. As for Bracken, I’m not surprised there either, thought all along they had a challenging schedule. I will say Robertson Co really is shocking. Last season they had a SoS at the bottom of the 10th. Ended with a great record but got them nowhere in the Region tournament. This season with nearly everyone back including last season’s POY it really would have been nice to see their SoS a little more challenging. A lot of teams have had to reschedule due to COVID and yet they found ways to find competitive replacements. Time will tell how this plays out come district and region tournaments.
  6. Which SoS is most surprising...Tougher or weaker than expected?
  7. Here’s an Updated Strength of Schedule (SOS) for all the teams in the 10th Region. Compiled on February 28, '21 The formula used: Weighted two-third (66 2/3%) for the opponent's record and one-third (33 1/3%) for the opponents' opponents record.
  8. Both Hamilton and his teammate Beiting are having really good seasons for Campbell and should be in the conversation. One could make the case their SoS is much better than Augusta and Pendleton and therefore should be in the 2nd Five.
  9. Not really...you can get an idea by the teams they play and their stat lines against those teams (strength of schedule). Stats can be a little miss leading. Some teams pad stats while others pull their starters when up/down big. Regardless, you can get a feel for which players consistently bring it game in and game out.
  10. No particular order: 1st Five: - Rickey Lovett (Montgomery) - Hagan Harrison (Montgomery) - Jerone Morton (GRC) - Justin Becker (Robertson) - Jerred Welman (GRC) 2nd Five: - Blake Reed (Bracken) - Terrell Henry (Mason) - Kason Hinson (Augusta) - Tredyn Thomas (Pendleton) - Grant Proffitt (Scott)
  11. I agree! Bracken for as young as they are has a really tough schedule for them. Coach Reed is preparing his team for the long term future. However, this may pay off for them come district tournament. Just need that one win to get them in the region tournament which I’m sure that’s their goal.
  12. Will be interesting to see what their SoS is at the end of the season compared to the other 10th region teams.
  13. Surprised to see Robertson at 13th! A team with nearly everyone back along with the reigning POY that only lost 6 games last season I would have thought they would have scheduled tougher to prepare for the post season given they were knocked out the 1st round of the region tournament last season.
  14. Thought it would be interesting to look at the Strength of Schedule (SOS) thus far for all the teams in the 10th Region. Compiled on February 5, '21 The formula used: Weighted two-third (66 2/3%) for the opponent's record and one-third (33 1/3%) for the opponents' opponents record. I suspect we’ll see a lot of shifting in this as the season progresses.
  15. GRC will definitely be a different team without Jerone Morton who’s the second leading scoring in the region as well as a great defender. GRC will miss Morton’s ability to get into driving lanes and put pressure on the defense which should allow Mason to focus more on Wellman. With this game being at GRC, where they get favorable calls, I still have GRC by 15+.
  16. Looking at the schedule Bracken Co will get another chance at Montgomery Co on Monday. We’ll see if that’s enough time for the “Professor of the Press” to come up with the perfect game plan. Game film shouldn’t be an issue either given they just played.
  17. For Montgomery... Hagan Harrison 27pts (11 of 16 from the field) Rickey Lovette 16pts and 14rbs JT Woosley 10pts
  18. To be the best you got to beat the best. GRC is the clear #1 in the region. They have 3-4 players that can score. Forces the defense to play them straight up...can’t focus on any one player. I do think it will be a different game next time when GRC plays at Montgomery.
  19. Jerone Morton for GRC with a huge night with 37pts. Hagan Harrison for Montgomery had 24pts and 9rbs. GRC threw everything at him tonight. Rickey Lovette with 13pts and 10rbs. Was in foul trouble the entire game.
  20. Jerone Morton for GRC with a huge night with 37pts. Hagan Harrison for Montgomery had 24pts and 9rbs. GRC threw everything at him tonight. Rickey Lovette with 13pts and 10rbs. Was in foul trouble the entire game.
  21. Harrison and Lovette both have big games... * Hagan Harrison 25 pts, 5 reb, 4 ast, 2 st, * Rickey Lovette 20 pts, 14 reb
  22. Nice write up! Will say I’m shocked to see Harrison not listed higher on your list. No disrespect to any of these players. Other than Wellman, Becker and Morton (You can throw Lovett in there as well) who did more to help lead their team to the 10th Region Championship game last season. Over the course of the season he averaged nearly 18ppg, hit 64 Threes at 42% as the PG and was second on the team in rebounding at 5rpg. All with him being the primary scorer and teams keying on him. In the biggest elimination game of the season he dropped 38 to help his team knock off the #1 team in the region. Just saying Kid should get a little more credit. Him and all the other players will get their chance to prove themselves. Again, no disrespect. I wish good luck to all!
