  1. I am fairly certain that Buddenberg suffered the all too common knee injury during the AAU season and is likely out for the season, big loss. NDA gets Collins (Junior) back from a knee injury, that is a nice addition. The three teams from the 33rd are the class of the region, IMO, and Julia Hunt at HC will give everyone fits again this year.
  2. Overall it was a good game, clearly better from the NDA fan perspective that the Cru. Both teams and fan bases brought a ton of energy at the start. The lightning delay at the 27 minute mark did dampen (pun intended) the crowd, mainly in numbers. Robertson scored first for NDA about 6 minutes in. She played a nice ball out of the air from just inside the box and made a nice turn to create space for the shot. Greenwell scored the second at about the 20 minute mark from the right corner of the box, great left footed shot that hit the far post and ricocheted in. I believe the third was an own goal, a shot by Greenwell bounced off of a Cru defender into the net. Last NDA goal came with about 4 minutes left, great shot by Kirtley from just outside the box pretty much dead center of the field. The second half was fairly back and forth, Mandy Schlueter capped off one of the great season in NKY soccer history with a goal with 4 minutes left. The Pandas definitely “harassed” Mandy all night. On to the Birds on Saturday. Congrats to the Cru seniors, a great group of girls that I have been blessed to watch compete in various sports for nearly a decade. Particular congrats to Mandy on a great season. I’ve watched her play soccer, basketball and volleyball for many years, she is truly an exceptional athlete and, at risk of being cliche, she is an even better person. Definitely a young lady that I was always happy to have my daughters look up to.
  3. The pandas put up 4 in the first half. One in the first 7 minutes then 3 after a 50 minute lightning/rain delay. The game was called very tight, I think 5 yellow cards total on the night.
  4. This will sound confusing but…a source at Dunbar said they elected not to play on Saturday after Dixie decided not to play due to Homecoming. What no one realized was that would leave NDA playing Highlands in Lexington. Today was an ACT test day for most of the NDA seniors and it is CCHs homecoming dance. I am also fairly certain that it is Highlands Homecoming. Suli and Chris talked yesterday and agreed that driving to Lexington to play with so many other things going on didn’t make a ton of sense. They explored playing in NKY, but could find officials, so elected to scrap it.
  5. Yes very good game, both defenses made it hard for either team to get into a flow passing the ball, and both defenses showed good recovery speed. Conner’s GK played a very good game. For NDA, Abby is done for the season, so the pandas will have to adjust going forward. Sunny left the game early, still hopeful for a positive prognosis, Tranter didn’t play the second half and a backup outside back left 15 minutes into the game both due to injury. Not insinuating that NDA wasn’t at full strength, their depth keeps them pretty solid when they go to their bench (clearly other than trying to replace Abby.) Hoping Conner’s Laurel Frazier is alright, she’s a tough girl, always plays very hard.
  6. Yes, South Oldham has three D1 commits, one to U of L. In an interview last month with the Courier Journal, their coach (whose been there for some time and had a lot of success) stated that he would put his starting 11 up against any team in the country. They are talented, but NDA looked very good for much of the game and has plenty of room for improvement.
  7. Very competitive game, both teams played their varsity roster for the entire 80 minutes. NDA did sub out their starting goalie at half time but the back up (a freshman) is very good and played well. Pandas were up 1-0 at half on a goal by Tranter, and had more than a few good chances to extend it but the Dragon defense was strong enough to hold them off. South Oldhams game winner came with less than a minute (as mentioned earlier in the thread) NDA had pretty much sold out trying to get their game winner and South Oldham flipped the field for a 2v1. These two teams will go at it for real in 2 weeks, should be a great game:
  8. Great work Frank, awesome stuff! Should be a great weekend of soccer and a fun season! Thanks for your diligence and time putting the analysis together!
  9. I am surprised at this as well, while they lost some great players the quality they bring back is strong. There is another jr that is a very good player maybe a step behind Claire and Laney but still very talented and a backline starter returning that is either a so or jr that is also a solid player. Friday’s game will be very competitive or both teams will treat it as a preseason scrimmage and it wont give a “true” read on the two teams, should be interesting.
  10. Not stealing Frank’s thunder, but…The Pandas starting 11 will likely have 8+ girls that play ECNL or GA for their club team. That doesn’t guarantee anything, but talent should not be an issue. One difference will be the mix of freshman through seniors versus the senior dominant team last year.
  11. Had this in the wrong topic. Pandas went 2-0 looking good against Madison Central in a 6-0 win. They looked very out sync against Central Hardin in a 3-1 win. As expected lots of new names and faces, on new face is freshman Sadie Yapp, very strong addition.
  12. She’s one of the top 20 freshman in the country according to several rankings, she is very good. Will be fun to see how good she is in 3 years.
  13. I was at the game, great synopsis. Couldn’t agree more on Maya Lawrie, she was great last night, but that’s typical Maya: quiet, hardworking and shows up in big games. Big things ahead for that young lady!
  14. For the third straight game, the Pandas were tied or trailing entering the fourth quarter (trailed Mercy and Male, tied with Cooper.) For the third time, they out scored the opponent by double digits in the fourth to get the win. Their seniors continue to step up, Aytes against Mercy, Bradshaw against Cooper and Feldman yesterday. Male is a very good team, they’re quick, they pass well and they shot the three very well yesterday. The Pandas were definitely tested 3 times this week by three good teams and found ways to get stops down the stretch.
  15. Notre Dame soccer and Holmes do not play during the regular season for this reason as well.
  16. I do think Dixie was missing Buddenberg, she’s probably one of the top 2 or 3 freshman in NKY. She’s a very good player on both ends. Not saying that changes the outcome of this game at all but Dixie will be a much better team with her in the lineup.
  17. Congrats to all of the recipients, all very talented players. I don’t know that anyone will convince me that there are 30 players in the region better than Amber Branum and Ellie Greenwell from NDA. Hard to believe they aren’t 2nd or 3rd team selections.
  18. To support Big Red’s assessment, at one point in the first half SK had a direct kick from 30-35 yards out and only put 4 players in the box with the other 6(not counting the kicker) at or behind midfield. To their credit the strategy stifled and frustrated ND for 60 minutes.
  19. According to Twitter posts from NDA: Bain-XU Ruthsatz - Wright State Simkonis - Clev State Spivey - EKU
