Not to let facts get in the way of a great story, but CCH beat them last year in the opening round of the regional tournament. They’ve play many more than two times in the regional and are likely about even. Back to 2023, Cooper has a very good team and we’re clearly the better team yesterday. I would suggest that the game was not as close as the final score.

As a PaNDA fan this post is priceless and unfortunately not too far from the truth:) let’s just say that the girls have been watching a lot of tape of the 1983 and 1985 NCAA championship games!

As I noted earlier, Sophia was great and a difference maker last night. No disrespect intended, but the way the first round games played out, or in HCs case didn’t play at all, coupled with very even scoring in the championship, the coaching staffs were in a tough spot on tournament team selections. For HC, Lewis and Hunt led the way scoring, but Coach Arlinghaus recognized great all around efforts from Aleah and Wimzie, tough decisions. Trust me, Soph wasn’t confused just how important her impact was when she left the gym last night:).

Dixie is no slouch and it’s hard to think anyone gets out of this region without beating Cooper. I guess if losing in the finals feels appreciably better than the semifinals.

Yes, Sophia played a very good game, was a difference maker in this game. It also helped that HC really struggled from the line. To your point, NDA had 18 turnovers but they didn't lead the number of points you would think.

Point total is equal to the total points from two losses last weekend. An article on LinkNky referenced the pandas offensive output in wins vs losses (a nearly 25 point difference). The competition clearly matters but their offensive inconsistency is maddening.

With how Conner has been playing lately, beating up on two solid teams (Dixie and my Pandas) this is a surprising result. Not necessarily the loss but definitely the margin.

This is 100% accurate regarding the feeder system for NDA and CCH, and the numbers impact that the sophomore class seems to be having on the freshman class. That being said, Notre Dame and CCH are held to a very tight restriction on who is eligible as a feeder school. NDA and CCH basically cannot allow any student from a school other than the schools that rjal listed anywhere near their program until after they receive their 8th grade diploma. While students from the NDA and CCH feeder schools can participate in sports at other diocesan high schools during junior high. Not complaining just stating facts.

Interesting that this comes up, I was told recently that it has to do with some specific players from Campbell County deciding to attend NDA. I question the validity of that explanation in that one of the players isn’t even a basketball player and the other doesn’t live in Ft Thomas and was NEVER considering HHS as an option. So this just serves to say that there are many theories…

Yes, 2 direct on the coach or a combination of three on the coach and bench personnel (players and coaches) results on Head coach ejection. The player technicals don’t count unless they are bench personnel.

No one was ejected last evening, I would need to consult the Khsaa/NFHS rule book on the appropriate treatment. I can attest that there are at least two full pages dedicated to technical fouls and what counts towards personals, team fouls and ejections. It is not nearly as straight forward as you would think…

Did it cost the Pandas the game no, so by definition not meaningful, was it a totally ridiculous call, absolutely. It was a four point game at the time, deciding to attempt to control the game by making that call in a four point game with a minute left is simply TERRIBLE. Again NDA couldn’t score so hard ti win if you can’t score, but to call that T, in that situation, much worse than headscratching. Totally agree with the rest of your post and look forward to the future rematch!

Yes chippy is a word to describe it. Pretty sure that’s gonna be one of very, very few girls high school games in the state where there are 4 technical fouls called:( (3 on NDA .) Neither team played particularly well, but Holy Cross was definitely more off than the Pandas and still got the win. Congrats to the Indians, a group of good girls that play hard. Well deserved victory. The pandas will continue to need to figure out the last 16 minutes of the game.

Good win for the Pandas, they still need to figure out the third quarter, but they responded to a challenge today. Kendra Collins was fantastic on both ends, a much needed second offensive option and played inspired defense.

And Marissa Greene is a fantastic young woman! Will work tirelessly to get better!

Manual was very impressive, quick, aggressive, skilled with the ball and shot well from behind the arc. Definitely one of the 3-4 best teams in the state.

Interestingly, this game was 13-10 four minutes into the game. As a supporter of any team that wins by 60+ would hopefully say, the starters barely played in the second half and none played after the mid point of the third quarter (two of the sophomores played the start of the second half.) About half of the margin of victory came with primarily the Panda JV team in.

Yes definitely a fun team that truly enjoys playing together, they are a very cohesive group. That being said, they haven’t seen the type of athleticism and physicality that GRC will bring. It will be a good measuring stick. Even if this game is lopsided for GRC, Coach Murphy has his team “on schedule.” Getting through a fairly benign first two weeks then advancing to the finals of this tournament is likely in line or a bit better than anticipated.

As I said, interesting, in both games PM gave SK and NDA fits with their press and shot the lights out from three. Coach Murphy was not at the NDA-PM scrimmage and when I saw him the next day, he asked what happen, I commented that I hadn’t seen a team collectively shoot the three as well as PM did in a long, long time. Clearly the November game with the film squad would be a better assessment.

Interesting, I will be interested to get a “full report” from the Cooper basketball parent I know. I haven’t seen PM play this season, but I did see them scrimmage SK and NDA at Thomas More this summer. Dee was not there, they beat SK by 15 and NDA by 20. Admittedly two young teams in the middle of the summer but PM had very good guard play in both games.

Yes very early, NDA loses some high class talent, no doubt, but this team had lots of sophomores and freshmen that played significant roles. McCloskey, Tilden, Goetz, Dyas, Ott, and Larkin’s are all back, they won’t be an easy out next year.

Pandas take care of business in 3, after the 3 hour drive. The RPI is a joke, St Henry was 17 at the end of the season. If the intent is to even the playing field just call it what it is…

I am fairly certain that Buddenberg suffered the all too common knee injury during the AAU season and is likely out for the season, big loss. NDA gets Collins (Junior) back from a knee injury, that is a nice addition. The three teams from the 33rd are the class of the region, IMO, and Julia Hunt at HC will give everyone fits again this year.

Overall it was a good game, clearly better from the NDA fan perspective that the Cru. Both teams and fan bases brought a ton of energy at the start. The lightning delay at the 27 minute mark did dampen (pun intended) the crowd, mainly in numbers. Robertson scored first for NDA about 6 minutes in. She played a nice ball out of the air from just inside the box and made a nice turn to create space for the shot. Greenwell scored the second at about the 20 minute mark from the right corner of the box, great left footed shot that hit the far post and ricocheted in. I believe the third was an own goal, a shot by Greenwell bounced off of a Cru defender into the net. Last NDA goal came with about 4 minutes left, great shot by Kirtley from just outside the box pretty much dead center of the field. The second half was fairly back and forth, Mandy Schlueter capped off one of the great season in NKY soccer history with a goal with 4 minutes left. The Pandas definitely “harassed” Mandy all night. On to the Birds on Saturday. Congrats to the Cru seniors, a great group of girls that I have been blessed to watch compete in various sports for nearly a decade. Particular congrats to Mandy on a great season. I’ve watched her play soccer, basketball and volleyball for many years, she is truly an exceptional athlete and, at risk of being cliche, she is an even better person. Definitely a young lady that I was always happy to have my daughters look up to.
