They should have played in the All A tonight, if I read the bracket correctly, but it isn't listed? Did Newport forfeit the All A game?

Highlands at Brossart tonight is a great game, interested to see how it turns out.

That is interesting, and if 60-70 is the average class, it is smaller than I'd have thought. So if they have 35 boys per grade in 10-12, that is a total of 105 boys. They have a solid CC team (fall sport), and a very solid soccer team, so that is about 30 boys out of that group. Then you have a fair number, I'm sure, of young men who don't play any fall sports, so the potential team size for their varsity football team is fairly small.

9th Region All A quarters, played at Villa, and they advance to play NewCath in the Semifinals. Villa, as you saw in another thread, has never won the 9th Region Girls' All A in basketball.

NDA looked good early, but SK went on a nice run to end the 1st. NDA had a solid 2nd quarter to retake the lead, but the 2nd half was mostly SK. NDA lost Addie Lawrie to injury, hope it isn't serious, but got Amelia Stallard back tonight. Pandas are going to have to get scoring in the half-court when Emma isn't getting free'd up. JLH had a big first quarter, but SK adjusted and made it hard on her in the 2nd half. I'd like to see Young get more touches around the basket. SKLP plays hard, together, and stays organized. Really defend with connectivity. Pernell is such a calming influence, Webb works her tail off, and Kelch is so freaking good and with a lightning quick release. Good crowd, boisterous, and a solid game. The better team won.

FYI, the KHSAA scoreboard has it reversed. I'm sure it will be fixed soon.

First round of 8th Region All A.

I'm no expert, but I said in the pre-season that I thought Ryle would ultimately be the #2 team in the region, and while Holy Cross and Highlands have had outstanding starts to the season (including Holy Cross beating Ryle by 1 on a Luke Arlinghaus walk-off three), I still think that will be the case when the dust settles. That said, those three, and everyone else, are playing for the 1st Flight Championship, because the Championship Flight only has one team in it. The Colonels won't win a 9th Region game by less than 10 points all year, through the Championship game at NKU.

Michigan State as a #3 seed is a tough look for the committee! ?

Good morning, welcome back to some degree of normalcy, and I hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable New Year's Day / Weekend! We had a great week of hoops last week, highlighted by two huge wins, Campbell County over Brossart, and Cooper, on the road, over the Valkyries of Sacred Heart. I certainly recognize there is an argument to be made to leap Cooper over NDA into the 2nd spot, but the H2H still very much matters, and Notre Dame hasn't done anything to show they wouldn't beat the Jags again -- although I "think" I'd lean Jags in a rematch at NKU (foreshadowing). This week is our 8th, 9th, and 10th region All A tournaments, so I've only listed the official games to be played this week but understand that those events are all win-and-advance, so we'll have more games played than currently scheduled. Would LOVE to see the 8th, 9th, and 10th All A Champions to come from our traditional NKY programs!! We also have one of our games of the Year on the docket this week, with #1 Simon Kenton playing at #2 Notre Dame on Tuesday, January 6th, at 7:30. That should be a terrific game, with the last 3 matchups being separated by only 13 points. Should be a great crowd on the Hill for this 1 vs 2 matchup! Also of note, a sneaky good game between Highlands and Bishop Brossart, and it will be interesting to see how the Lady 'Stangs respond to their first loss of the season.
