Division 1 Players From Your School
brooksville replied to ladyluck's topic in KY Girls Basketball (High School)
Amy Flaugher, class of 1978 at Bracken County. Flaugher ranks No. 1 in Norse women's basketball history in free-throw percentage (.819) and No. 2 in assists (466). She also scored 791 career points and helped NKU win at least 20 games three times. As a pitcher on the slow-pitch softball team, Flaugher posted a 22-2 regular-season record as a sophomore. -
I'll with: 1. Mason 2. Bracken 3. Augusta 4. St Pat

OLDEST rivalry in Kentucky?
brooksville replied to brooksville's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
How old is Paintsville/Pikeville? Not from there so I do not know the extent of it. -
Bracken County has a good group of guards returning but won't have a lot of size.

I was thinking about Bracken County and Augusta and the two have been rivals ever since the 1920’s So I was just wondering which one was the oldest, not the best.

I think Bracken County will be a lot closer to Mason County than last year. But have yet to see both teams so who knows.

The BEST teams not to win
brooksville replied to PistolPete4's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
This is past everyone’s time. But I truly believe is was the 1944 Brooksville Polar Bears. Adolph Rupp said they were one of the greatest high school basketball teams he had ever seen play. He said individually they were average, but when they played together they were outstanding. That’s why he offered all 5 starters scholarships to Kentucky, hasn’t been done before, and hasn’t been done since. Adolph Rupp signed five starters from Brooksville in 1944 | Sports perspectives with ron bailey | maysville-online.com -

Top Contenders for 10th Region Player Of The Year
brooksville replied to MegaMan's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
This thread has turned into a dumpster fire -
Bracken did not shake hands because Fairview had 2 players be ejected in the final minute of the game. Bracken was afraid there would be a fight or something causing some of Bracken’s players to be suspended for the next game. Smart move on Brackens part. Fairview has nothing to lose at that point.

The BEST teams not to win
brooksville replied to PistolPete4's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
Best team not to win a state title: 1944 Brooksville Polar Bears. The team was 22-0 heading into the postseason. They we’re ranked number 1 in the state and were sitting at 27-0 in the semi finals of the state tournament when they were upset by Olive Hill (now West Carter). I have talked to people on that team. I think they were under a lot of pressure to repeat the feat done in 1939. The entire 1944 starting 5 was given a scholarship to play at UK by Adolph Rupp, saying Brooksville was the best high school basketball team he has ever seen. They were also state runner up in the baseball state tournament that year coached by Jarvis Parsley as well. Here are some letters and articles from 1944 you all are gonna love: -
Division 1 Players in your schools history

Yes we’re very good. Region in 39, 40, 44. State champions in 1939 and we’re ranked one in the state in 44. All 5 of the starters were given scholarships to UK in 44. Clyde Cooper played at UK and went to play for the Chicago Staggs and Nashville Vols. Albert Cummmins played baseball and basketablk at Uk after serving in the army for two years. And played baseball at Michigan State. -
I thought this would be a fun thread right before the basketball season. I’ll start by naming players, school, and year graduated high school. Bracken County/Brooksville Warren Cooper- Morehead State (1939) Clyde Cooper- Kentucky (1944) Albert Cummins- Kentucky (1944) Larry Wood- Eastern Kentucky (1955) Dave Hampton- Winthrop (1974) Austin Crawford- Morehead State (2017)

Bracken County vs. Fairview (1A First Round)
brooksville replied to Bac2369's topic in KY Football (High School)
Fairview has been in more big playoff games than the Polar Bears and will use that experience. Fairview 28 Bracken 22 -
Austin Crawford did not play. But we are still very proud at the fact he is on a mid major Division 1 team. I know of at least 50 Bracken County people who went just to see him warm up and that’s alright. I was hoping he would get some “4th quarter time” but Morehead State played with Kentucky and made for a great game. My favorite is when MSU was down by 3 after a charge call, and Rupp broke out into a fairly loud “Morehead” chant that I joined in on. I don’t know if I was impressed with Morehead or disappointed in Kentucky.

Crump may have had a concussion. I think he will be playing next week though.
