  1. That’s what I figured.
  2. 13th region job filled with veteran coach.
  3. If the team is still entact, I would think this would be very enticing position. Maybe 5th region insiders would have more insight.
  4. Richard Gatewood has resigned from the position. Citing health issues in his family. They had loaded up a super team during summer ball.
  5. Late in the game for an opening...
  6. Walker will certainly be in the conversation. Modern therapy has changed the game on ACL tears. Ateny is the best player in the region right now. He was dominate in the two games I watched of them this summer. He was playing stronger and more aggressive.
  7. I think most coaches do. In the games I witnessed, coaches sub freely and a lot of young guys get run. I would still hang my hat that DCA was the best team but not as big a gap as last year.
  8. Teams I didn’t get to see personally- Boyle Co, Danville, Mercer Co and East Jessamine that could threaten the top 10.
  9. Now that dead period has hit, and teams are on a break I thought I’d take a shot at top 5. (I had the opportunity to watch most of the teams in our region this summer) 1. DCA- All of their kids look physically bigger. Their zone is very rangy, and their kids play extremely hard and active in it. They added a piece for their bench to boost the interior. I expect the Steifeld kid to have a breakout year. 2. Wayne Co.- Honestly, 2-6 is pretty interchangeable but I’m giving them a nod because the day I seen them all of their kids were there and they were playing with great energy. Getting the Bell kid back for them is huge. Their issue is interior size, but their center does work his tail off. Kendall Phillips is a lethal shooter, and the other guards will benefit from last year’s experience. 3. West Jessamine- They struggled some with W/L results. But, projecting out I think they have a well rounded team with great size and experienced guard play. Tut is a physical specimen that can dominate the game. Murphy and Thornton are capable and seasoned guards in the region. 4. Somerset- They played really well this summer without Grundy and Bartley most of the time. I believe this is another team that is well rounded, and can lean on an experienced backcourt. Brock Stevens emergence can help take the pressure off Absher and Lewis. He shot the ball extremely well all summer, and that gives them 3 of the best shooters in the region. Collectively, a really good 12th region backcourt. 5. Lincoln Co. Sim. To Somerset, with Baird and Robbins they have a seasoned backcourt. I worry about their collective size but I could see them using a 5 out offense some as well. Penegraft did appear to improve throughout their summer games, and he will be their small 5. Their kids play super hard, and picked up a nice W over Newport in the KABC. Pulaski Co, Southwestern and Rock were all on my radar as well but the times I saw them they had key guys not playing .
  10. Kaleb Murray from Mercer Co. also tore his ACL in summer ball. Hate to see it.
  11. That is a bummer for a great kid and athlete.
  12. Somerset won at McCreary today. Higgonbtoam and Absher was a fun watch.
  13. A quality team will be left out in the 45th. Excited to see how it unfolds.
  14. Somerset and Southwestern both lost close games to Caverna without their big men today. I will say this Caverna is one of the biggest collective HS teams I’ve seen. Huge across the board.
  15. Brandon Bargo, a Barbourville assistant coach has been named the coach of the Jackets.
  16. Very interested to hear what happened here. Coach Holland seemed to be doing a good job? Did he leave on his own accord?
  17. Not sure, all those kids for Bell are SRs now and have played pretty much their whole career. The year is this year for them if it’s going to happen.
  18. Bell Co. beat Somerset by 4. Two contenders in the 12th and 13th regions. Bell’s big man Buell can really fill it up.
  19. Bell Co. won on a buzzer beater over Douglass.
  20. South Laurel Team Camp Results: Somerset beat South Laurel in a close one. Frederick Douglass and Bell Co. in a tight one right now.
  21. Multiple outlets online are reporting Caverna has hired Richard Gatewood, and Davier White is leaving Taylor Co. to follow him.
  22. So, who’s the odd team out in the 45th now? Should be a monster district now.
  23. I wasn’t aware Hager and Webb were playing for the Rebels. That certainly makes them a contender.
  24. 1. DCA 2. West Jessamine 3. Pulaski Co. 4. Lincoln Co. 5. Somerset Wayne Co, Southwestern, Rock and McCreary Central right there as well. I predict another tightly contested regional tournament as usual.
  25. Steve Quattrocchi has been named head coach. He heads up the Griffin AAU program.
