Assignments Grundy has gotten tasked with this Year: Walker Craig (Rock), Leek Ateny (DCA), Carson Fraley (Pulaski), Higgonbotham (MC). Really, an undervalued attribute to this Somerset team’s success so far this season. It says a lot about the kid’s coachability accepting this role being a division I baseball commit.

Somerset went to McCreary Central and handled the Raiders fairly easy. Kole Grundy played great defense on Higgonbotham. He’s been a really good defensive stopper this season. They will travel crosstown tom night to essentially play Pulaski Co. for the 47th 1 seed (Assuming they jump the .8 difference in RPI with a win). Should be a dandy!

Hensley could be long term as well. I’m sure it was tough to bounce back so quickly and play same team after beating them so bad in first meeting. SCS is a very tough venue to play at too!

Missed FTs the kiss of defeat this time of year. Danville will be a scary out on their home floor in district tournament.

Rockcastle Co. had a massive road win last over Southwestern 77-51. Not surprised that they won, but the margin speaks to how well they must have played.

Tomorrow night will be a big time trap game for DCA @ Garrard. I expect the Golden Lions to be game (if they aren’t too rusty). The layoff definitely showed for both of these teams early tonight.

DCA defeated Lincoln Co. 62-48. Lincoln led by 1 after 3 Quarters. Stop me if you’ve heard this before, Leek Ateny was a stat stuffer. Mikels was also huge on the interior. Lane Sargent (forgive me on spelling) was really good for LC making 5 3s. 6 straight wins for the Warriors over Patriots in this budding rivalry.

Somerset @ Pulaski Co. set for TH. Night. Hopefully the rain isn’t too heavy on Tues and Wed, and temps stay above freezing.

Rock and Henry Clay played @ Sayre Sat. I believe HC won by two. I think only game played for the week. Hopefully everyone gets it back rolling this week.

I spoke too soon. Pulaski vs. Somerset has been cancelled tonight citing parking lot issues. Tentative reschedule date for next TH. Feb. 5th. Another big time district bites the weather dust.

I definitely see the reasoning behind it. There just used to be a lot more “snow day” games then what is played now. I can’t imagine the nightmare trying to jam all these district games into a short window time frame. I know 45th district teams are already cancelling games with other region teams to fit in makeups for district games.

Unless it’s precautionary for the potential weather system moving in? Main roads are fine, and travel is limited for these matchups.

Not sure why the northern schools are so cancelling so much. It looks like most of the southern matchups are still on.

I was talking about Somerset shooting performance in an early December vs West Jessamine.

Credit Walton Verona. Probably the worst offensive performance since early season debacle against West Jessamine. Never seemed comfortable, and missed several paint scores.

Both studs. Watts went to Cumberlands though, right?

Probably 04? Walt Allen went to Presbyterian college in SC, and Ty Profitt went to Notre Dame from the State Champion South Laurel Cardinals team who was still in the 12th Region before realignment. Team was absolutely stacked with skill and size.

I said "legit". Of course, the level you play will dictate the resources you have.

Excellent Player. Just my opinion, Ateny ceiling is higher to me because of the size/mixed with skill set. His shooting splits are tremendous. Trevon was not a great shooter in HS, but obviously improved throughout his collegiate career when he got into Northern's Program. I could most certainly be wrong, and the production Faulkner had speaks for itself. He's def. a worthy selection.

Not sure, but my eye test tells me if he gets in a legit strength and conditioning program he will be a monster.

Some coaches for sure. Ateny would have my vote. Seeing him compete many times, he is a special talent.
