I would have to disagree with the youth comment. Spencer's only big guy had two fouls in the first quarter and played less than half the game. I think that was the biggest factor. I didn't notice the two freshman having bad games. I think the stats will show that.

No excuses. Somebody asked what Spencer had coming back and I was telling them.

Losing Coke is going to hurt. Spencer County will return 4 out of their top 5 scorers next year. They definitely will not have size. I would think you will see a team that gets up and down the floor pressing and shooting threes. They will be loaded with shooters. Freshman Conley is a top 10 player in the state in the 2021 class. He is the man , but freshman point guard Whitlock is ranked on several top 25 list. Whitlock ran the team this year and averaged 8.6 points 3 assist and one turnover. Pretty solid numbers for a freshman starting point guard. So I would say he is not just a shooter. In the regular season game against Anderson County he controlled the game (ask the Anderson coaching staff about that). Keep in mind Conley and Whitlock are freshman. So I would say having two players of that caliber going forward on one team would at least make them pretty good. Spencer County was missing one of their top three point shooters last night due to flu. Yes another freshman Lucas Hornback who hit two threes against Anderson a few weeks ago. Hornback is considered a top freshman also. If Spencer County can develop one big guy or get a transfer with some size then they would be set. Still high school teams don't have to be big to be good. Defense and three point shooters trump size on high school level. Jackson Cole and Jacob Seawright who will be Seniors are two of the top three point shooters in region. I agree with the above post-- Anderson County is getting ready to drop considerably. They have had a nice long run.

Spencer's only big guy got two fouls in first quarter--game over. Anderson needed a third person to step up. It was Pittman. He had over 20 points. Penny had 6 points I believe. Veteran team got it done.

I will be watching to see how it is refereed. Last game Anderson tried to get aggressive with the freshman point guard Whitlock and it didn't work. He went 9 for 11 from the free throw line. I would say Anderson will try to establish Gritton.

Spencer has a lot of youth against a veteran team. If Spencer shoots the ball well I don't think it will be close. If they don't it's anybody's game.

Yes, Conley had better stats than at least 5 of the kids on the list and he is the best player on a top 5 team in the district. But any player that got snubbed can use that as motivation this week and in the coming weeks. Outcomes of basketball games cannot be voted on. That's what makes competition great.

Spencer County top five in the region and no players on the all region team. Bogus. Should be good fuel to the players to prove some people wrong. Sad for the Spencer County players that earned a spot. I guess being a well balanced team with almost 5 kids averaging double figures can hurt you. Pretty disappointing.

Spencer County doesn't have the successful history that a lot of the teams that have been at the top of the region since the beginning of time. Of course they have had a few good years with 2011 making it to the regional final and I the 1984 team winning district. But other than that it has been slim pickings. I came on here two years ago seeing the very good young talent in the program and started talking Spencer County up and I was met with sarcasm and "looked down the nose at". I think you can look back at message board history post and see what I'm talking about. 8th region Warrior--you were one of those that kind of scoffed-- so of course when I was met with that I talked up my team. You questioned pretty much every prediction and everything that I told you was going to happen with the transfer and other things at Spencer County. I'm sorry I didn't lay down and keep my mouth shut. Anyway, it is all good. Good luck to Gallatin and Walton Verona. I hope they do well.

JohnsonQ, I joined this forum two years ago and I found out pretty quick that if you say anything positive about your home team you better be able to back it up with facts. People in general don't like the new guy and you have to earn any kind of respect. I have always tried to give my opinions without being negative towards a team and give what I believe to be the facts( my opinions). I am a human so I'm sure I am incorrect lots of times. But I genuinely watch a lot of 8 th region games and try to get a handle on who is the best in that region. When I first got on here people weren't used to anything positive being said at Spencer County and they came at me pretty hard. I think Spencer County's program has shown that it's not the same Spencer County from all previous years. You misunderstood if you thought I said WV was not a contender, because I think they are while I do not believe Gallatin County to be. No slam against them. Just my opinion. Just because they beat someone that was PREseason number one means nothing. That ranking turned out to be bogus. They did beat a Collins team early season missing some key players due to football. Playing a good team close is still not a win. I am a die hard Spencer County fan, but I picked Collins to win it all and nothing has changed. After watching a lot of basketball that is the way I see it and I could be completely wrong. It is never a personal attack with me when evaluating a team I can promise you that. My Spencer County Bears may lose to Anderson Wednesday night, but if they get by them I think they are very dangerous to anyone in the region. It should be exciting!

Geez--didn't mean anything personal, but when a team I feel has been overrated all year on this board keeps getting hype I can give my opinion. Like I said no disrespect meant. I feel like Gallatin County's coach or Coach Burns from Spencer County deserved coach of the year in the 8th. It's not putting down when you evaluate a team. Didn't mean to hurt anyone's feelings.

I see Gibson didn't play. Good win for Boyle County, but that is a huge factor that Gibson didn't play. Somebody mentioned turnovers, I would think that would have not been such a problem if the star starting point guard would have played.

Spencer County already beat them with Penny. I don't know what your talking about??? Drury would do whatever would help him to win. I respect that. I fully expect to see Penny dunking in warmups this Wednesday even though he was on crutches last night and Spencer County will be prepared. No worries.

Drury is a crafty veteran. Heard this from several people. Not just my thinking.

Heard it was a knee injury. I hope he's not really hurt, but I wouldn't be surprised if Drury is trying to throw off Spencer County's preparation for District game. I can assure you they will be preparing for Cobe Penny.

To be completely honest with you--I'm scared to death of Anderson County. Anytime you have a team with a player like Cobe Penny in a one game scenario anything can happen. If Spencer is fortunate enough to get by Anderson, they would have to upset Collins. But out of the teams you mentioned I think Spencer matches up favorably with Gallatin and Simon Kenton. If I had to put them in order of who I think is the best of those 4 I would rate it Oldham, WV, SK, Gallatin. As far as region goes I still think Collins in the team to beat.

I don't know maybe this world. Three of the top 8 teams in this poll come from the 6th region. Anybody that follows basketball knows how deep that region is from top to bottom. The middle of that region would be top of most.
