I will agree that Spencer and Collins will have some battles for sure. I understand that you are a Shelby County fan and you are being optimistic to say the least. Your analysis of Spencer County is way off other than the fact that Conley is their best player.

Talent disparity mentioned above is the head to head disparity. If you presume that the transfer from Shelby County is the only player Spencer County has then you haven't been following the program. Spencer County has had one transfer EVER. How many has Gaither had?

You made a good analogy comparing Gaither to Phil Jackson in that he always has the best talent. I would say he is an average coach. He always has kids transferring in that help his program out tremendously. Case in point he lost to Anderson County last year with a way more talented team. When you compare him to Burns I would ask could he do the same with the talent level that Burns has had over the past five years? I would say no way. Spencer County has had very little basketball history to speak of. You have to have talent to win. Burns inherited a program at the bottom of the eighth region and in a short time has led them to back to back 20 win seasons. He has had some pretty big wins and lost some close games that he shouldn't have even been in. I really don't need to defend him because I know what coaches think of him in the region. As far as Shelby County goes--They have some size but I would take three point shooting and speed any day of the week and twice on Tuesday and that is what Spencer County is loaded with. Don't see Shelby sneaking up on anybody. I like Noah Gordon though. Watched his game for a long time. If Spencer County stays injury free then they will be top 5 , however, they are not deep and lack size. Getting to the basket and three point shooting will be their strengths. Straitshooter--you seem to be missing the point--Yes they have lost in the district first game, but Burns has had no talent or very young talent going up against the Anderson County and Collins. Since he has been their he has almost pulled off some huge upsets in those games. Pretty safe to say Spencer will be in the regional the next three years (if no injuries).

Anderson lost pretty much everything. Nothing against them but I think they are headed for some lean years. For at least the next three years Collins and Spencer County will be running that district.

Watched Miles play at AAU tournament in Louisville. Very impressive. Signed with Xavier. He should be player of the year in region.

I agree Bluecats--Walton Verona is easily the best frontcourt in the region. Guard play is more important in high school basketball in my opinion. I would give the edge to Collins over Walton Verona.

With the season just around the corner it's time to discuss the 8th region. Prephoops Kentucky just posted preview for the 8th region. Their top 5 teams for this year and players mentioned for both teams are the following: Walton Verona: Team returns Dieonte Miles and 9 seniors. Team to beat. Gallatin County: Troy Coomer one of the best shooters in the state Collins: After losing Feltner and Fort the junior class will get a chance to shine. McKnight and Vail. Spencer County: 4. Spencer County – One of the youngest teams in the region last season, Spencer returns most of their core, including a very good Sophomore class. After two years of varsity experience for Jake Whitlock and Sam Conley, the Bears should look to make some strides this year. South Oldham: Even though they were decimated by graduation. South Oldham looks to be the fifth best team in the region. Top College Prospects: 1. Dieonte Miles 2. Dayvion McKnight 3. Kelly Niece 4. Marcellus Vail 5. Luke Morrison There is a write up for each player. I would say that is the top 5 in my opinion. What does everybody think?

Strengths: shot blocking, work ethic, developed a pretty good jump shot. He is able to block shots with both hands which is kind of unique. Love how hard he works. Weakness: Not very athletic, slow, struggles getting up and down court in a fast paced game.

I think you win the "homer" award. You clearly haven't watched many teams other than Collins. When you make comments that Spencer County is just Conley shows me that you have never seen them play or simply you really don't know. Also, I would say that the people at Shelby County High School are probably glad that everyone in Shelby County isn't catering to Collins. How is it fair for Collins to snipe all of the talent at their school and leave Shelby in ruins? I'm sure you would like that to happen. Hopefully there are clearer heads in Shelby County. I don't see Anderson County surprising anyone. Nothing against Anderson but they just lost everybody and their very good coach. Seriously, get out and watch some games because this post is as if you haven't seen one other team than Collins. No disrespect but you clearly do not know what is going on. As far as AAU ball---where do you think these kids develop their talent and skill? Against the best players in the U.S. If your playing HIGH level aau ball then you are getting better. Your right we don't agree on that point. Watched Marcellus Vail and Davion McKnight in several tournaments. Trust me--it makes you way better. Your kidding yourself if you think it means nothing.

Are you talking about TJ from Shelby County? If you are I would say he's a decent player but a "top 7" player in the region on the right team?? I would have to greatly disagree with that assessment. Also, I have watched several teams from our region over the summer and different AAU tournaments and there are going to be several teams under the radar that are going to be really good. South Oldham is one of those. The region will be wide open. Miles from Walton Verona is very impressive. Saw Brooks from WV. I will say he is tall. Their guards will determine how good they are going to be. Size is nice, but guards determine if a team is really good or not. Anderson County and Shelby County will struggle greatly. Spencer County had four players that had very good summers on the AAU circuit. Starting five will be very good. They will have to overcome lack of size, but have legitimate 5 knock down shooters. It should be fun.

Yes sir. I totally agree. Just don't like it when people always have something negative to say. Spencer County fans are super excited to be playing in the KOB. I've been coming and watching since I was a teenager. Now I get to see my favorite team play in it. Can we fastforward to December?

Man you are cracking me up. I just gave you two links and like I said Prephoops.com you have to be a member to see the rankings. But I clearly gave you their rankings on that website (I promise I'm not lying LOL). I've been following the 2021 class since they were 6 years old. I have seen just about everyone in that class play. If your mentioned on three separate websites your probably pretty good. Anyway, I just responded to your initial post because you were questioning why Spencer County got invited to the KOB. I noticed some of your other post seem to put a negative light on Spencer County (you mentioned a possible transfer violation which was a rumor and joke). I think you said something along the lines (i'm not saying their cheating or anything) but you posted it. Not sure what your agenda is but Spencer County should be a worthy opponent at least the next three years. Somebody please help him out with the rankings. I did my best.

Excellent point. Spencer County has never sniffed the KOB. 75% of Spencer County will be there. I can guarantee you that. Spencer County has never had the talent that they have at this moment so it should be a great ride for their fans the next couple of years.

Spencer lost by alot, but starter Jackson Cole wasn't there and Coach Burns is working on developing his bench so I don't know if you can do any comparisons. Summer league comparisons won't show you anything.

I think the people that put on the King of the Bluegrass just don't look at how you have done in the past. Spencer County has three of the top Sophomores in the state that all start on that team. This is an up and coming team. I think they also try to get teams in there that have young talent. Also, two very good seniors returning. If you go by just starting five Spencer County has the most returning talent in the 8th region. Stats back that up. Transfers can always effect teams (Collins getting a few and maybe some on other teams). Don't discount Spencer County unless you actually have followed them. Apparently the people putting together the KOB see something.

I believe Lexington Catholic was missing their best two players. I heard Ben Johnson had an ankle injury and the kid that plays for the Louisville Magic has missed at least one game. Is that true? These summer games are so hard to evaluate. Missing players. Coaches working on things. I know Spencer County is working on developing a bench so----starters aren't playing a lot. But that is key for Spencer County--developing a bench.

Any word how the entire Shelby County community is dealing with these transfers of Shelby County players to Collins? That seems like it would open a huge can of worms. :popcorn:

I know that a player from Henry County's parents have all of their family living here in Spencer County and they are wanting to move back. They actually lived here before moving to Henry County. The head coach at Henry County was informed by the family. I'm pretty sure nothing illegal has occured since the family is looking to move and told the head coach about it. From what I heard it's just a matter of playing in front of their entire extended family.

Yes that will cause some hard feelings. I believe TJ from Shelby County is transferring to Collins? How is he able to do that? Caleb Hawley has transferred to Collins from Christian Academy. Transfers at other teams in the region may change the outlook for this year. I know South Oldham is getting a kid from Trinity (first name Creighton can't remember his last name) and a few more may happen that could REALLY change the outlook. It will be interesting.

What are the locations and schedules for summer leagues? I know that there are games at Franklin County High School tonight. I believe Franklin County, Spencer County, and Lexington Catholic are some of the teams that will be there.

I think your original post kind of discounted them without knowing the answers to all the questions you posed. I follow the program close and everything that I know and see tells me that they will have a break out year next year. While returning scoring is not the tell all, we don't have a whole lot to go on. I do know this--just about every 8th region power lost a ton. Collins and Spencer will be at the top in my opinion. Just an opinion. Time will tell if I am wrong but I don't think I am.
