  1. That is up to the college programs. The kids belong to their programs now. If they want them there, then that's end of story. Should a freshman call up his new college coach and say "he coach, I know you want me there on this day, but I'm playing in a legion tournament, sorry. I'll be there when I'm done."
  2. Does anyone think that it is the sportsmanlike thing to do, if the team is going to be limited by players not being able to play in the Regional tournament, and not able to field the same calibre team that got them to this point, respectfully decline the bid and let the #3 team play in the Region???
  3. For players playing summer baseball, summer baseball stops when they have to report to school/college. From all the information I have, players from the Danville team were going to have to report to school and would not be able to play.
  4. You may be right. Maybe he wasn't criticizing the fields. It's just a dead horse that is beaten over and over by many others. Legitimacy concerns... are you serious? I am told the field conforms to KHSAA standards for field size for Regional sites.
  5. When A-Rod approaches Babes records for homeruns let's put an asterisk on it since Yankee stadium was bigger when the Babe played.
  6. I guess since Danville only scored 12 and Metcalfe only scored two runs that game had to have been played at a different site...
  7. IMO, the Danville players have a tendency to look at a lot of pitches. Some people have that philosophy and that's fine, different approaches by different people.
  8. Mercer was down 2-1 and scored two runs late in the game to take the lead. One of the key stats of the game for Danville was 12 runners left on base.
  9. Yes I know the rule. I have seen it called. Last time I saw it was in the All A Classic last year, but I have seen it. And it was pretty obvious yesterday.
  10. Yeah, I honestly thought it was a tough call to make Mercer, Somerset, or Danville the favorite in this tournament. A lot had to do with the draw on who was in better shape. Mercer, Somerset, and Danville all having to play each other prior to the finals is a tough road for any of the three.
  11. I noticed in the Danville-Mercer game that Mercer has a left handed batter that stood with his front foot very near the front of the batters box and each time he took is stride and made contact with the ball he was out of the batters box. I would have liked to see the umpires call him out at least once for being out of the box, but they never did. Maybe if he's doing it again today someone can call them on it. It's very hard I'm sure for a home plate umpire to call, but I have see it called before.
  12. One of the questions I have is that I don't exactly know what would cause an umpire to decide that it was up to him to try to discipline a player after the play such as telling him to pick up his helmet. It wasn't thrown out onto the playing field, and was in disgust over making on out in the last at bat of his career. It was obviously nearing the end of the game and we all know how emotions can get the best of players in their "final hour" so to speak, as their career comes to an end. Nonetheless the player was asked to pick up his helmet and should have done so. And the umpire should have in no way be subject to what followed afterwards.
  13. I'll see if I can get my hands on them in a day or two after this seasons stats are finalized. I probably have a copy through the regional game, but not one that includes stats from that game.
  14. Hopefully these event don't overshadow what Mercer accomplished yesterday. Congratulations to the Mercer County "Scotties" (if you heard the PA announcer you might get a kick out of that) and good luck to them in moving on to play Somerset today.
  15. And I making my claim as the 2nd most disappointed person. As would many others i'm sure.
  16. Agreed... but Helmets: Find me a team where every player comes to the dugout after making an out and lay their helmet exactly where they picked up before they went to bat. Compounded with the fact that it was probably the last at bat of their baseball career (high school and in some cases forever). I guess I am saying their are different degrees to "throwing a helmet". ALOT of kids toss their helmet after making an out. HOWEVER, **That IS NOT what happened yesterday and I in no way try to imply that this is what happened yesterday..** If he would have walked over, picked up his helmet and went back into the dugout, we wouldn't be talking about it right now Arguing with an official... no question. Coaches do the arguing. Disrepecting officals calls for exactly what happened yesterday. Whether that be coaches, players, or fans Attitudes: I think... no, I know... coach Morse has no problem with handling attitudes.
  17. Agreed... thanks for someone giving the blame to where it goes. Coach Morse would never encourage or condone this type of behavior from players.
  18. I still stand by what I said after last years Semi-State game. I know for a fact that a Senior playing in his last game of his career was tossed for doing absolutely nothing. The ump wanted to throw someone out for words that came from the dugout. He picked the first one he saw and got the wrong guy. I won't defend what took place after he was tossed, but I will defend the player to the end for being really upset over it.
  19. Morse does not allow or encourage this type of behavior. You think anyone would encourage players to act the way the Danville player did who was tossed yesterday? Some say hats off to Witten for being a class act (which he is) but then you somehow put the blame on Morse for allowing the other? How could any coach step in and prevent what happened yesterday? Explain that to me please. How about parents teaching their kids some dignity and respect. Lay the groundwork for teachers and coaches to build on. Don't expect them to do it all.
  20. My guess is that the entire first round (4 games) is played on Monday. Semi's on Tuesday and Championship on Wednesday, pending any graduation date conflicts.
  21. Word I received was... Danville vs. Mercer Wayne vs. Somerset Rockcastle vs. Boyle West Jessamine vs. Southwestern
  22. If they can't compete any of the three other teams in their district what is the complaint?
  23. I had a pug at one time and he was the greatest!
  24. Thank you... I heard their names last night but couldn't remember.
