  1. PRESS RELEASE On December 6, 2016, Bracken County High School will be hosting “Hoops for Hope.” The Bracken Polar Bears will be playing against the Robertson County Black Devils. Games start at 5:00, 6:00, and 7:30 pm. “Hoops for Hope” is hosted by the Bracken County High School FCCLA club and members Kaleigh Woods, Alicia Teegarden, Makenleigh Cooper and their adviser Lesley Duzan. “Hoops for Hope” will be supporting the Bracken Co. Cancer Support group and The Cure Starts Now organization. The mission of this organization is to fund groundbreaking research in honor of all children battling pediatric brain cancer or children “that have earned their wings” as a result of pediatric brain cancer. The Cure Starts Now hopes by raising awareness, it will increase the interest in knowing more about these deadly, yet unknown, cancers. The guest speaker for the event will be Lisa Hill, mother of Lauren Hill, who was an inspiring young basketball player from Mount St. Joseph University who has since died from pediatric brain cancer. Lauren captured the hearts of many people across the nation with her story in November 2014. Despite her diagnosis with DIPG, a rare inoperable brain tumor, she used her voice to speak up for the kids that are unable to speak for the need of more research funding. As a result of Lauren’s efforts, $ 2.2 million has been raised for DIPG research since her first collegiate game on November 2, 2014. Along with a guest speaker and the basketball games, other events will also include a cake auction, silent auction, and a survivor’s reception for all cancer survivors who sign in at the beginning of the game. Cheerleading performances will be provided by the Taylor Elementary Cheer Bears, the Bracken County Middle School, and the Bracken County High School Cheerleading teams. Proceeds from the evening will go to the Bracken County Cancer Support Group and a donation will also be made to The Cure Starts Now organization. The Bracken County High School FCCLA encourages many people to come out and supports its basketball and cheerleading athletes and to also support an amazing cause. The program will begin prior to the Varsity Basketball game beginning approximately at 7:00 p.m.
  2. Twitter updates from @brackencounty were great. Bracken County really picked it up with the press in the 4th quarter. Beechwood shot 7/24 from the 3pt line
  3. This makes the 6th straight season Bracken County has to beat a college level pitcher to win district.
  4. Lost Logan Teegarden with a scary injury. Hurt his neck but refused to go to the ambulance. Tough kid.
  5. When Pendleton played at Bracken Crawford had 30, Allen had 17 and shot an awful shot in the corner that would have tied the game.
  6. They ripped off the RICT so what was left hanging was SEED THE DIST. The whole sign was saved thanks to the courageous students of BC and a few Mason County volleyball players.
  7. Considering the tug of war between the Patties and the Bracken students when they tried to rip it down to no avail, I would assume you're right.
  8. I support the decision 100%. Us not playing Augusta and St Pat only takes away 4 wins from every program. I'm for seeding, in years that it helps or hurts.
  9. St Pat BOE made the decision yesterday to cancel their games at Bracken County, which was supposed to be a Girl/Boy Double Header for Bracken County senior night.
  10. In a very competitive 5 team seeded district where due to the tie-breaker, EVERY SINGLE GAME YOU PLAY MATTERS. Makes for much better involvement because not only are you looking at your games, you're looking to see how everyone else in your district is doing because it directly effects your season.
  11. I heard that the football team had pretty big win tonight over Nicholas County. It feels good to win a regular season district game that actually matters!
  12. After the game Saint Pat's coach Chuck Hamilton said this about Korbin: "She killed us last year and she killed us this year. You put her (Korbin Florer) on our team and we'll see who wins." I could not help but die laughing because St Pat. couldn't even hit the ball over the net. Their coach basically just said if St Pat had Korbin they would be district champs.:laugh::laugh::laugh:
  13. Mason County's volleyball coach after the loss to Bracken from the Ledger Independent: The loss ends the Lady Royals season at 8-22 and Thomas wasn't too pleased with how the draw played out, with the top two teams facing one another in the first round. "I think it's wrong what this district is doing to our girls and to really all the girls. It really doesn't matter what the result would of been, Bracken won it fair and square, but something needs to change. I don't know if this conversation is happening, but I'm more than alright with being vocal about it," Thomas said of the draw his team was faced with. "We have a lot of good girls that deserve to go and I'm upset about it. Not taking anything away from Bracken." Thomas is new to the whole seed vs. draw topic as this is his first year at the helm as the Lady Royals coach. "I just think we should of seen them in the finals and not in the semifinals, but that's what happened and I hope the conversation gets started and I'll do whatever I can to get this district seeded because we have a lot of girls feeling unwarranted right now," Thomas said. St. Patrick and Augusta were on the other side of the bracket with the draw and Mason County knocked off both teams twice during the regular season. "Even if we were the worst team in the district I'd want to seed. It's not fair to the girls who are improving and putting in all the work. Even if we were upset to the team we shouldn't of lost to, I'll take it as a man. There's no justification to this process and I will have the conversation with the correct people to make this right," Thomas added. "Seeing the look at the girls faces knowing this was their last matchup, it breaks my heart. I'm not an emotional person at all, but it absolutely breaks my heart having to tell my six seniors this is their last match, good season. Shouldn't of been today."
  14. Thought I would make a fun thread before we get started into basketball season. I wanted to see how schools got their mascots and the cool stories behind them. Theirs a lot of good reasons and stories across the state and I wanted to hear them all! Please be constructive! I'm sure there is already a thread on this somewhere
  15. Averaged 11.2 points and 8.2 points last year, good player.
  16. They had to make room for all the other Mason County players
  17. It's hard to deny them being ranked #1 despite their bad play in the post-season last year. Very good top 4
  18. 1. Whitney O'Mara - Mason 2. Anna Clephane - Scott 3. Lexie Stapleton - Scott 4. Taylor Clos - Campbell 5. Kennedy Igo - GRC 6. Jordan Frodge - Mason 7. Maddie Boone - Mason 8. Mackenzie Schwarber - Campbell 9. Jasmine Flowers - GRC 10. Chariss Wilson - Bourbon
  19. 1. Mason County 2. George Rodgers Clark 3. Campbell County 4. Scott 5. Bracken County 6. Nicholas County 7. Bourbon County 8. Bishop Brossart 9. Montgomery County 10. Harrison County
  20. 1. Nicholas County (3-0) 2. Bishop Brossart (1-1) 3. Bracken County (1-1) 4. Paris (1-2) 5. Berea (0-2) All eyes will be on the Paris @ Bishop Brossart game. If Brossart were to lose this game there will be a 3-way tie in the district between Bracken County, Bishop Brossart, and Paris (Unless Bracken County upsets Nicholas County where the Bluejackets there could be a 4-way tie). The tie-breaker is how many wins do the best 4 teams you've beat have (Not counting district). Here is the best case scenario for each team: * denotes have not played that opponent yet 20- Bracken County: Harlan 8, Bath County 4, Dayton 4, *Ludlow 4* 18- Paris: Ludlow 5, Pineville 5, Middlesboro 2, *Bethlehem 6* 13- Bishop Brossart: Dayton 4, Bellevue 2, Ludlow 5, *Pendleton County 2* Worst: 15- Bracken County: Harlan 7, Bath County 4, Dayton 2, Switzerland County 2 9- Paris: Ludlow 4, Pineville 4, Middlesboro 1 9- Bishop Brossart- Dayton 2, Bellevue 2, Ludlow 3, *Pendleton County 2* There's a lot of ifs involved in this. If Brossart wins none of this matters and they will be 2nd in the district unless Bracken County upsets Nicholas County.
  21. Bracken County is 2-0 on homecoming games. Let's see if the trend continues tonight
  22. Bracken still has the other 3 horsemen (If Fisher is healthy). If Parker locks down Donnelly they still have Sendleback as an option.
  23. I thought it was Tad Fisher? He didn't play on the last few drives.
