WJ Keeper was very good, but meant Zoeller was best player on the field. The two girls going to UK are great players, but Zoeller had a greater impact on the game. Have only seen Mitchell part of one other game, she is outstanding yet not asked to do as much for WJ.

Very entertaining game. GK Yates made some outstanding saves. SK put 9 behind the ball most of the game, and the strategy frustrated WJ. It left Zoeller 1 vs. 3 most of the night when the ball was cleared. The game plan almost worked. She still got off 10 shots and almost pulled off the win if it weren't for a couple quality stops from the WJ keeper. Clearly the best player on the field, maybe the most talented in KY. West had quite a bit more possession and build up, SK had more shots. IMO the better team moved on, but SK should be proud of their season.

Based on what the 4 teams have accomplished in the post season, and the eye test, WJ should be a 2 goal favorite tonight and Sat. IMO they've already played their two most difficult opponents. Of course being the better team, doesn't always mean advancing.

Very impressed with the composure from the Boone ladies on that kick. Most players would have started yelling at the official after an illegal play by the GK. They briefly plead their case, moved on and took advantage. No idea if the score will hold up, but plays like that are often the difference between winning and losing in tournaments.

Glenn and his staff do a great job with the Villa program. His teams understand their strengths and have made it difficult for teams to score, particularly on their smaller field at home. Opponents have been frustrated for years playing at Villa, taking shot after shot and not being able to convert. Fact that it happens consistently, tells you their staff knows defending. They didn't miss a beat this year with such a young team. In fact, the entire 34th district was very young this year. You were also right about the effort of the Villa defense Monday night, they were constantly under attack. Unofficial stats had Dixie with 34 shots Monday, 17 on frame. The game easily could have gotten out of hand, Villa battled until the end and should be proud of their season.

Not commenting on a particular performance, but coaches want no part of these forced district match ups. It is easy to criticize, but a high level club player can and often will score 3 goals in 5 minutes in these games. Unless you see the game, its not fair to be overly critical based on a box score. Players on an inferior team often give up once it gets to 5 or 6, there is no stopping the bleeding at this point. Back up defenders start scoring goals and you can't tell a kid not to play hard. Playing keep away when the opponents have stopped chasing is just as insulting as scoring. Coaches who keep playing starters, continue attacking aggressively, and allow the leading scorer to put in 5-6 are another story. I have seen very few who operate in such a manner. Remember most varsity teams are only carrying 18-20 players. Starting your JV in a varsity game is ridiculous, the players likely aren't listed on the official KHSAA varsity roster. Keep in mind other logistical issues are involved. The JV and varsity don't even have the same uniforms at some schools, varsity jerseys may be passed down to the JV. KHSAA rules prohibit different jerseys, and most officials will enforce this rule as they are expected to do.

That's disappointing. I'm admittedly biased towards the high school experience. While I recognize the training & competition will be much better, I would have thought the Development Academy could have been possible working within the framework of the traditional 8-9 month club season. To answer your question: Yes, I would expect most mid-high DI caliber players will no longer play H.S. and the effect will be drastic. Anticipate 15-20 girls in NKY will be impacted. As we know, about half of those go to one school.

Good question. Are you operating under the assumption, these ladies will no longer have the option of playing for their H.S.? Not clear to me that is U.S. soccer's way of thinking. If the new program is taking 2000-3000 girls out of H.S. soccer programs in the U.S., I question if this makes sense. The top 100 in the country I understand, however the reality is most of the girls will never play for the national team. It would be sad if the the opportunity to play with their friends and win a state championship is taken away from these girls, all for a scenario that is not very likely.

Would be curious if those that stayed shared your opinion. Have not seen SHA play, but they are putting up unheard of defensive numbers. Played all the top teams in KY, Allowed 7 goals the entire year and now ten shutouts in a row. That can't be fun to play against and I mean that as a compliment.

The blowouts in the state qtrs every year are silly, but I don't know If there is a practical way to fix it. Regions 13-15 typically are on the wrong end of those results. Can't have an E.Ky h.s. going to Owensboro or Bowling Green on a Tuesday night in round 1. LC beat NDA and OC beat SH once already this year. Some quarter finals games were a dud, should at least be a legit state championship game.

NDA has 5-6x more female students than Villa. Unfortunately, parental financial support does make a big difference in certain sports

Was impressed with what Boone was able to accomplish with such a small pool of varsity players. Their season should be encouraging for all those schools that don't have 8-10 girls in every grade playing a reasonably high level of club soccer.

Have any of you complaining been to an important high school football game? More people are regularly at those games than were at the two combined events last night. And the walk is at most ten minutes, but that is poor planning? Big schools have 3 football teams, 3 boys soccer, 3 girls soccer, and 3 volleyball teams playing in the fall. No you aren't always going to have an empty parking lot 30 steps from the gate.

That is funny. I saw The coach's daughter put two in from about 30 yards out in a different game. Very nice shots. One was a direct kick, but someone could have set the ball down on the ground for her. That counts, right?

Was not their fault,. Intent was to compliment coaches and officials. They made the right decisions last night to try to get in penalties, and to stop when they did.

Very well said. Anyone attacking the school is in the wrong because the kids and parents had nothing to do with the situation. That being said, how anyone could possibly think what transpired the last 4 days is acceptable is stunning. If there is a belief OT and PKs were an unlikely scenario, please check the statewide scores in other district finals. An even better indicator, look at the scores the last 4-5 years Dixie and St. Henry have played. Last year they were 12 seconds from having both matches decided by PKs. IMO the coaches and officials last night handled a poor situation as well as could have been expected. Tried to get the penalties completed, by the time the 14th kick was taken it was completely dark. The girls simply do not deserve to be forced to spend 5 days playing a 2 game tournament when weather was a non-issue. Only one of the three games had a result the day it began. Hopefully the schools learned from this experience and the 34th district is held at an appropriate venue going forward.
