  1. I agree with all of this *Dugout proximity (and cleanliness) *Bus proximity (and cleanliness) *Portapotties (do I really need to go on) *Sharing of bats/water bottles *Multiple people touching same ball (and wearing glove on your throwing hand is awkward) *Batter/catcher/umpire proximity *Tagouts/slides Not to mention, many press boxes are NOT set up to allow spread out for book, announcer, scoreboard keeper, press Just because they're outside and spread out on the playing surface, people assume baseball and softball should be safe. They're far from it when you dig inside. Football: Too much contact. Proximity issues. Wrestling: Most physical contact. Proximity issues. Soccer: Too much contact. Sharing same water. Touching same ball. Swimming: You share same water. Basketball: A lot more contact than people want to admit. Tennis: Four players touching same ball. Proximity issues in doubles. Track: Field events might be OK (would have to wipe off pole vault and high jump mats consistently), but mile/2-mile/800 have packing issues. Cross country: Spreading out starts would be difficult. Packing/proximity issues during running. Volleyball: 12+ girls touching same ball. Diving/Sweating on same floor. Good luck spreading out bench. Archery: Would have to thin out teams, making meets drag on. E-sports: need to be in same room. Doing remotely allows for too many connectivity issues and outside interference. Bowling: Individuals would be OK. Could spread out (but make events longer and no one owns their own bowling alley, so at mercy/goodwill of lanes). Baker involves 5 per team, so proximity issues. Golf, singles tennis (although 2 people sharing same ball) and singles bowling are about the only 3 sports which could be held with few radical changes.
  2. This would be a great chance for radio stations to get back in the game. And for teams to get an online in-game stat tracking program like CyberStats or GameChanger (pretty popular for baseball/softball). As well as every team having its own team twitter account (and not filtering everything through school twitter page).
  3. Bylaw 23 Provisions – Football Practice Regulations | Kentucky High School Athletic Association (12) Any student who has neither participated in organized competition in a KHSAA sanctioned winter or spring sport, nor has documentation of supervision by a coach qualified under Bylaw 25 in a minimum of 8 conditioning workouts after the previous season and before the start of spring practice (including competition on a competitive weight lifting team at the school), shall have two (2) days of practice in helmets only and two (2) additional days in shells (helmets and shoulder pads) for acclimation prior to wearing the remainder of the allowable football gear;
  4. La'Vell Wright, a 6-foot, 205-pound junior (2021) running back from North Hardin, has narrowed his list from at least 17 offers to his final 6: *Boston College *Kentucky #BBN *Northwestern *Purdue *Vanderbilt *West Virginia His other offers were from: Alabama-Birmingham (UAB) Duke Eastern Kentucky Georgia State Indiana Kent State Missouri Tennessee Toledo Virginia Wake Forest
  5. 1) For some, no in-person class equals no extra curriculars (holidays/ weekends excluded) 2) Hard to social distance contact sports. 3) How do you justify splitting school yet plan on having games/ meets and expect the crowd (if any) to adhere to social distancing? And if you don't have crowds, gonna be hard for people to pay bills (band works football concessions where I live).
  6. I think it's a lot easier to mandate masks and sanitation and health guidelines in a school setting as opposed to a sports setting. Trying to play sports in a mask would be awful. I grew up asthmatic. I'm a mouth breather. Wear a mask every day in a warehouse. It sucks. And never mind people touching and sweating on each other in basketball, football, soccer and, egads , wrestling. So given the opinion of school or sports, I'm taking school. (Granted my bank account has been crushed not having sports to cover as a freelancer).
  7. Yes, since sports are considered extra curricular. And classrooms can be spread out. And school is non-contact, unlike football, soccer, wrestling, basketball, cheerleading (flyers), etc. Not saying I agree with it. But could I see it? Yes. Definitely could.
  8. Hickman County boys basketball will have a new coach in 2020-21, as Wynn Harris has resigned after two seasons. Falcons went 19-35 under his tenure, and return one of the bright stars in soon-to-be senior guard Jackson Midyett. In the 2018-19 season, Harris had a tumor removed and coached the Falcons in the First District semifinals against Carlisle County. Other coaching stops: *Asst. at Henry Clay for state title *Coached under Danny Haney at Lex Cath *Garrard County Girls HC and assoc. HC for boys *Won a regional Class A title in girls at Trigg *Summitt Christian Academy in Lexington SOURCES: Twitter Twitter Twitter
  9. I'm on this side. * We're getting second spikes in Europe (even in places had pretty significant lockdown measures). * We're getting people contracting the virus for a second time (so we now know this ain't like the chicken pox) * We don't have a vaccine (maybe September, but that does us no good April-August) * We are adding more testing sites (which means more positive cases) * We are adding faster tests (which means more positive cases added to totals earlier) We are not even to Phase 1 yet. We are still in the "Must Reach These Benchmarks First" stage, and Andy basically said yesterday organized youth activities were NOT part of Phase 1. We are still on Day Zero of the Downward trend benchmark (and it's going to get hard to get there with testing doubling/tripling on a weekly basis. We basically doubled our positive count in a week). I don't see how anyone can believe we're "safe" (meaning no/zero issues at all, NOT "taking a chance and if it happens, it happens") to go back to huge groups of organized contact sports any time soon. Not to mention buses, dugouts (baseball/softball, but soccer has some) and port-a-potties would be allowed. And like someone else said, football locker rooms aren't exactly noted for being spacious or clean. Especially for the visiting teams.

  17. * Due to the COVID-19 outbreak eliminating the possibility for Kentucky All-Star Tryouts, the KABC would like to announce that the KABC Regional Players of the Year, as voted on by our member coaches, will be the official KY/IN All-Star Roster for 2020. Congrats to all! * With that said, after much deliberation, the KABC — in conjunction with the Indiana All-Star Director — has been forced to cancel the 2020 KY/IN All-Star games originally scheduled for June 5th. The series will resume June 2021. * On a more hopeful note, the Kentucky Lions Eye Foundation has rescheduled the 2020 Mr. and Miss Kentucky Basketball Awards Ceremony for June 28, 2020 at the Marriott Griffin Gate Hotel in Lexington. All boys and girls KABC POY will then be recognized as Kentucky All-Stars. Source: KABC (@KABCoaches) on Twitter

  24. UPDATE: Mark Palmer coming from out of state to take this job. Heard no scuttlebutt of this. Per Anderson News weekly paper sports editor Chris Leach ( @chrisLeach_AN ) "BREAKING: @FBALLAnderson has hired Mark Palmer as its next head coach. Palmer spent the last nine seasons at Patrick Henry HS in Glade Spring, Virginia as the head football coach and AD, and led the Rebels to the playoffs in seven of his nine seasons coaching at Patrick Henry." 25. There are several (100+) Kentuckians listed on Perfect Game's All America and Central Region preseason lists. There was some confusion on social media because there are four different lists (Senior All America, Senior Central Region, Underclass All America and Underclass Central Region). I combined the UAA and UCR lists because the UAA list was so small (listed it first on UCR list). Furthermore, all four lists had honorable mention. Got called out on social media because people saw honorable mention and thought they were automatically AA when instead they were CR.
