The gap between the top four and the AP is pretty wide. Some of my fellow journalists need to do more research. Some need to NOT vote local schools so high. That being said, @Jason Frakes posts his weekly votes on here for everyone to see. He doesn't hide. It would be great if the AP posted voting ballots for this very reason: It would force voters to become more accurate and less homerish.

I've got a strong household tie to LaRue and I get along with their coach and administration. That being said, Elizabethtown is loaded for bear and Caldwell is still solid and Paducah Tilghman is always dangerous. I can see the region semis -- IF everything falls into place -- but I can't see making the final (or winning it). I can see LaRue folks using this post as bulletin board material (and if they need a social message post to fire them up, then they are NOT preparing the right way if that's ALL it takes), but I doubt I'm alone on my limb of a stance.

What do OPTIONAL regular-season games (which are limited and come in 2-year deals) have to do with playoff games, exactly? Playing E'town is NOT going to prepare Central Hardin for the 6-A postseason. Central Hardin gains NOTHING (other than decent gate and bragging rights) by playing Elizabethtown. And heaven forbid a Central Hardin player get hurt in a rout against a 3-A school. That would NOT go over well. Central Hardin has grown by leaps and bounds as a program the last few years. It does NOT need Elizabethtown to survive (and grow more). You don't build your program by thumping smaller schools. Heck, Elizabethtown's having a hard time with North Hardin and you think it needs to play Central (which has had North's number for a while now)? Central Hardin can fill -- and has filled in the past -- that game with a more competitive team and still get a decent gate. E'town, in turn, adds a game it might win (instead of realistically lose most years) and not get physically beaten black and blue. The state of the programs, especially Central Hardin's strong upswing, has changed the last few years. ADMIT IT: Central Hardin has outgrown Elizabethtown (or else it better have if it is half the program it thinks it has become). If Central Hardin REALLY needs to play Elizabethtown, it has NOT taken as many steps forward as you think it has.

E'town needs to play John Hardin and Central Hardin -- both bigger schools with more athleticism -- about as much as DeSales needs to play St. X or about as much as Ludlow needs to play Highlands or CovCath or Ryle. Sure they're nearby and you get a decent gate out of it, but you're going to get beaten physically (and possibly mentally or on the scoreboard). Plus, people know why the Central Hardin-Elizabethtown rivalry was scrapped. The apology (or lack thereof) behind it was laughable. Granted all of those involved (player wise) are out of school now, there are certain coaches/families that are still involved. Until a better apology or a house cleaning comes (which I'm doubting any time soon), this ain't happening. People forget the Fort Knox-North Hardin rivalry is much older than John-Etown or Central-Etown. LaRue-Meade use to happen as well. Nice gates with local rivals, sure, but not much for Knox or LaRue to gain, either. Plus, some of those Central Hardin-E'town games toward the end were straight-up routs from the opening kickoff. Do we REALLY need to go back to that, crowd be darned?

I mentioned it before, but pretty sure neither Marion (first State tourney EVER, was like 19-17 last year) nor SK would have had to go through another top-20 team to make it to the final. McCracken had to go through Trinity and Scott County just to make it to the semis, where it ran into eventual champ. McCracken's postseason path was the equivalent of being opposite the 6-A football super district and having to go through Male, X, T. SK's baseball title-game path was more like, well, SK's football path when a Louisville team is not involved. It's kind of like the same year when a public school volleyball team (Greenwood? one of the Oldhams?) finally made the state final (when the Louisville privates and NKY privates were all in the other bracket). And like someone else said, NKY would probably be third behind Louisville and CKY (West Jessamine, Scott). A couple of good draws at State (when you do NOT have to go through the teams who are above you in the pecking order, so you don't have to worry about them beating you in Sweet 16/Elite 8/Final Four) doesn't change that. Pretty sure final MaxPreps computer rankings, which DO factor in out of state games and are far LESS biased than human rankings (like the Coaches/PBR) will be flooded with Louisville and CKY teams and might have a NKY team thrown in. Not taking anything away from SK's season or the program it has built. Solid bunch. No ego checks that I've heard of. Played right with PRP. But to ignore the complete unbalance of the bracket is to put your head in the sand and to miss that big elephant in the room. If this was the NCAA basketball tournament, at least there is a seeding that SHOULD set up good games along with way. With the KHSAA random baseball draw, it wouldn't have mattered much if some of the top (or bottom) regions had slightly different winners: The top bracket would still be weaker, even if the highest-rated team from each region successfully won the region title. That's the downside of the blind draw.
