I'm unfamiliar with what refs do to qualify. I have noticed that the JV refs and the varsity refs are different and have different uniforms. So I'm guessing the varsity refs have somehow qualified. So there is training? Is it regular (ongoing) or just a one time thing. Consistency can be an issue with some refs for sure, it's like they are watching the offensive player too much so they are inconsistent. When you keep your eyes on the defender only it's much easier to be consistent and keep from calling ghost fouls or not miss a foul. Do refs get trained/taught that kind of thing? I truly have no clue what refs do to qualify

Stamper is a great player. Congratulations to her on the all tournament team. Between her and the 8th grade Jones, SK is going to be a contender for many years.

It hasn't been that long. Hard to say for sure, but kids/coaches tend to round up ... I'm going to stay with my 6'1", 6'2" estimate unless I see proof otherwise. Bracken County Maxpreps roster lists 6'3", don't really trust that. I will try to get a gauge next time I see him

Have seen Crawford play a lot. He is most definitely one of the top 2017 players in the area. Is he complete as CVH or McNeil? No, but after that he can hang with the other 2017 boys. He's not as good a shooter as the Scott kid, but Crawford is more athletic. Crawford can jump high and is quick to the rim, but he lacks the size needed to be strong inside. His pull up shot is excellent. Defense was decent, but not amazing. Of course the team he plays for affects how much he scores so I think it's probably not a good way to gauge him. Of course mix tapes is always the "best of", so that's a little skewed for all players. Best gauge is going to probably be AAU success, which I do not know. Who does he play for? What's his scoring average? In the Spring and Summer he's probably on a court with the CVH's and McNeils of the state... Anyone know those details?

I certainly meant it as a compliment to the basketball program in Augusta. Over the last several years they have shown themselves to be a tough and solid program. The first time I saw them play I thought they could not possibly be that good given the size of the school, but I was surprised to find them to be a great team. This basketball tradition has obviously continued there. I do not want to diminish the accomplishment of this team of beating SK, so hopefully that makes sense. Congrats to Augusta, they have obviously worked hard and deserved the win!

I think the "David and Goliath" stuff is a little much for this game. Augusta has been handing losses to schools bigger than them for a couple seasons now. Everyone knows Augusta can beat you if your not on your game. SK let the game get away and it will be good lesson for playing hard and doing the basics right. SK needs to get Fries into more positions to score, run more offense through him. Also, JC is a great player, if he has a better night SK could have won. JC's combined height and shooting ability could be used better in my opinion, he is a dual threat.

Been watching Lexi for several years now. I think she's one of the most underestimated players in NKY. Great shooter! 1000 points as a sophomore is a big deal, not common. That says something. Being in the same grade as Ally N has probably overshadowed her and just how good she is. Congrats to Lexi! Well deserved!

In my opinion with what I've seen in the 8th this year, I believe SK will win the 8th. Teams may improve some, but they can't change out players or coaches. I'd like to think I can be objective, but I don't see any way SK isn't representing the 8th at the state tournament. SK is too deep and too talented relative to the depth and talent of others in the 8th. Walton was the team I was unsure about, but have seen them now. This is of course my opinion, so others are welcome to disagree

Yes I saw the game. That is one of the bigger reasons I feel very comfortable believing SK will win the region. I'm a SK fan of course, so that certainly affects my opinion but I think I've seen enough of the 8th region to this point to have an informed opinion

SK had a good first half, but couldn't keep up in the second half. Losing Harmeyer is not good, but Stamper and the Jones sisters filled in well. SK is figuring things out. By the end of the season they will be a tough out at the state tournament

The ND point guard was good - Hagen. Davenport and Zimmerman (NCC) are great players. Ryle also has a 6' athletic girl who should get opportunities to play in college, Jenna Carothers.

I am sure Holy Cross is shooting well and is good this year. But if they end up as either of the top two in their region at the end of the year I will be surprised. I honestly will be surprised if they end up as either of the top two teams in their district. I'm not saying they aren't good and haven't started out strong or don't deserve the number one spot. But just what I think will happen

I am sure that both girls are very good, but I should say upfront, I have been a big fan of Maddie for sometime now and I saw her play this year vs Holmes. Maddie's quickness and speed is very impressive. Against probably one of the fastest teams in the state, she continually kept herself in front of the girls defensively and handled the ball excellently. Her dribbling is pretty unbelievable actually. According to Maxpreps, Maddie has 3 blocks this year. She had a great block against Holmes (called a foul, but was not in my opinion). She can really get high. Her athleticism stands out, even against Holmes. To think there's another 8th grader with her speed seems unlikely. So, I looked up Kennedy Igo on Maxpreps and Hudl. It's all I have to go on, but it had some video highlights. Maddie is undoubtably faster and quicker. Maddie is listed as 5'8", I couldn't find a height listed for Igo, but from the video she seems about the same. So is Igo faster/quicker? - no way. Bigger? - maybe, but barely. Stronger? - probably (Maddie is pretty skinny). "Looks" from D1 schools can mean lots of things. So I'm unsure what/how D1 schools have contacted Igo. But I do know that WKU coaches called Maddie this summer and had her come visit the school and meet the coaches. To just show up at a UK camp and have a coach talk to you...is that really a "look"? It's certainly possible that OSU and UK coaches themselves have actually called Igo, I do not know. Just wondering what exactly that means? Comparing stats would never work as Budman mentioned. Maddie starts on a team with 6-7 talented seniors and is a legitimate top 20 state ranked (Maxpreps) team. Her job is not to score but run the point well. Igo plays for a team that's 2-4 with losses to Woodford County (1-3) and Madison Southern (3-3) and has 2 other 8th graders, 3 freshman and 3 sophomores on the varsity roster. And from what I've read, the offense runs thru Igo. To be clear, Kennedy Igo is surely a great player and as already mentioned one of the best 2020 girls in KY. Though, to dismiss Maddie as behind Igo, or not yet to her level, I believe is a mistake and incorrect. Maybe they are close to equal, I don't know. But I would agree with the Paul Biancardi's (ESPN national recruiting director) analysis of Maddie in his tweet, "Attention women's basketball programs: Maddie Scherr has skill and IQ that is off the charts for her grade".

Heard Covington has a bomb threat and Holmes did not have school today. Will this affect the game?

Missed the game but heard Augusta looked great. This will be a year they surprise some teams. Looking forward to it!
