I was never diagnosed and actually didn't come out of the game (stupid) but if it wasn't a concussion I can't imagine what one would be like. It was against Lex Cath my junior year, head to head hit with the scrambling QB. It took a good 10 seconds for my vision to come back/the blackout to go away and I just felt a little nauseous the rest of the night. Most hard hits come with a little daze afterwards but I never had the effects like I did after that one.

I feel like the attitudes towards no cell phones until the kids are in high school or 16 will change when the kids start hanging out with friends and you are wanting to know where they are hanging. Not that the kids will always be honest but at least you can be in contact.
