  1. Congratulations to Coach Chris O'Hearn. I know he will enjoy one more opportunity to coach Darius Miller! http://courtsidewithdannyweddle.blogspot.com/2008/04/ohearn-to-coach-millers-team-in-derby.html If Chris keeps this up, George Clooney's girlfriend may want a picture with O'Hearn next time they are in town.
  2. The sprinkler system burst in December of 92. We got the place fixed up with new carpet, etc. This could be a positive in the long run if you fix it up and replace old with new.
  3. http://courtsidewithdannyweddle.blogspot.com/2008/04/white-team-wins-spring-game-24-8.html This is from Danny Weddle's blog. We had a very good spring and made alot of improvement. It was great to see alot of our football alumni there Saturday morning!

  5. Congratulations to Coach Murphy and the Royals!
  6. Stock Up- Theguru for looking out for kids. His stock was already high with me. :thumb:
  7. Darius Miller should get the award because of his accomplishments on the court, especially this weekend. He is also a very good person. He will represent our state very well as Mr. Basketball- on and off the court. Congratulations to Darius, the staff, and players on their state championship!
  8. Coach Gooch took me through the football facility before the region championship basketball game. It was very impressive. The community has alot to proud of and excited about in regards to Montgomery County football.
  9. 1- LexCath 1- Owensboro 1- Jeffersontown 1- Holmes 1- South Laurel 1- Lincoln Co. 1- Paducah Tilghman 1- Mason Co. 2- LexCath 2- Holmes 2- Lincoln Co. 2- Mason Co. 3- LexCath 3- Mason Co. 5- Mason Co. TB: 155
  10. Teel Bruner's Laurel County team that won the state title was very good. One of the best basketball games I've ever watched was the region finals that year between Laurel County and Pulaski County in the 12th at Boyle County HS.
  11. Nanatoad- You are right on target. Congrats to Coach O'Hearn, the staff, and players on a wonderful season!
  12. In the past 30 years, this is the first. This game replaces the KY-TN All Star game. I know back in the 70's and before there was an East-West game.
  13. Hopefully, if the above format were adopted, it would remain in place regardless of which state tournament was played first. I would think both boys and girls would prefer a Friday or Saturday night final to a Tuesday night or Sunday afternoon.
  14. This is nothing official. Just something a couple football coaches came up with in the football office a couple years ago. Just curious to see what everyone else thinks. Monday- Girls 1st Round- hosted by district champions Tuesday- Boys 1st Round- hosted by district champions Wednesday- Girls Semifinals at one site Thursday- Boys Semifinals at one site Friday- Girls Championship at the same site as Wednesday Saturday- Boys Championship at same site as Thursday Have a big snow and look what happens................. the football coaches wanting to run the region tournament! I will get back to my football video and leave this alone. :thumb:
  15. Sam Burke was also a member of the Ads first state title team in 1962. Saturday night, I got to visit with Jeff Hester, one of Coach Burke's Golden Lions from the early 80's. Jeff was in town visiting family and watching the Mason-Elliott basketball game. Jeff and I were opposing captains for the 82 opener, Garrard versus Mercer. I still have the picture of the coin toss- we both had a lot more hair back then. On that Friday night, we were both in the backfield. I think sometimes Jeff was in ours as well as the Garrard backfield. Now, we both have gained enough weight that you could line us up at left tackle and left guard and run behind us all night for some good gains. :sssh: OK Hatz- tell us a good story and get us back on track with your pick for the next coach at Garrard! :thumb:
  16. We have crumb rubber on our practice field but not on our game field. Doug Vescio originally installed our bermuda on the game field with sprigs in 2003. Chad Asbury takes care of our game field and reseeds the bermuda each June as needed. Rain games(soccer and football) destroyed our field in 2006. Chad rolled it and reseeded the field and it came back great- a minor miracle. Since we installed bermuda, we have not had to regrade our game field. And, since the crumb rubber was installed in 2003, we have not had to regrade our practice field. We use to do those every other year. We are very happy with the job Chad does with our field. We play football, soccer, and have a band contest each year. He does a great job of keeping it going with so much traffic on it through out the year.
  17. 2003 and 2000 Boyle were both great- hard to pick which one was better. I realize 2000 Boyle was only 2A, but that was a great football team. In my opinion, both were better than Boyle 01 and 02. I haven't seen the others enough to comment.
  18. Joe Dan Gold, the current superintendent at Morgan County, was the superintendent at Mason County when I came here in 1996. He, Duane Lambert our principal, and Fred Hester, our athletic director convinced me that they were committed to football, and they followed through on the things they said they would do. I would say that Mr. Gold is doing everything he can for football within the proper priorities of running a school system. There are things all coaches would like, including myself, and we don't like it when we are told no. But, administrators have to prioritize needs for an entire district, not just what football needs. Football is an expensive endeavor and it is tough for communities to afford all the things that go into having a quality program- staffing(competive staff stipends) weight facilities, quality/safe high standard helmets & shoulder pads, lockerrooms, coaches' office, practice facility and equipment, game field, stadium, etc. In all fairness, it is a lot easier to support a quality basketball program because the expenses are dramatically less. Of course, it is a worthwhile investment for the experience it gives the kids and community when resources are invested in football. But, it is tough to get the ball rolling with the initial start up or to make substantial but needed improvements. My best guess would be that Mr. Gold is doing the best he can with the resources he has available. On a sidenote, when I was a sophomore at Mercer County HS, I attended Phil Simms QB Camp at Morehead State. My partner that week was a phenomenal player, just a freshman. He went on to earn a scholarship at UK. He was from a school I'd never heard of............ his name was Bill Allen and he was from Morgan County HS! Best of luck to Nets and the Cougars.
  19. Wylie and Ray are two outstanding young men who have been a pleasure to coach. An added bonus for me was being their defensive line coach. When you are looking forward to getting up for football practice at 5:15 am every Wednesday morning, you must have guys that are alot of fun to coach. These two brought a great effort and attitude every single day to the practice field. Coach Damron is a outstanding person and coach. I am thankful Wylie and Ray will play for him. Best of luck to KCU Football next fall- and thank you to Wylie and Ray for all they have given to Mason County HS Football. Coach Buchanan
  20. Richie Cox, our QB/SS/LB committed this afternoon to play for Harvard. His total package will mean that he does not pay anything to attend Harvard. He is an outstanding young man as well as a very good athlete and football player. He was recruited as an athlete- not a quarterback. Thank you to his parents, coaches, teachers, teammates, and school administration for their role in helping make this dream come true for Richie. Coach Buchanan
  21. People under estimate Jackson because he has had to work so hard to become the athlete, football and basketball player, that he has become. Jackson has a lot to offer any football or basketball team. If Chris O'Hearn has him starting, I am sure it is because that is what is best for the team. I have coached with Chris and I have tremendous respect for him because he puts what is best for the team ahead of everything else. I think Chris is underrated as a coach as well. He is outstanding. He is a pretty good football coach as well.:sssh: Coach O'Hearn and the Royals continue to win big game after big game. I am very proud of the coach and his team. We are fortunate and blessed to have Chris leading our program. All In- I am not trying to be overly critical of your comments. I recognize what you do in that we do have some very good young talent. We may still not agree, but having coached Jackson and worked with Chris, I am confident that Chris knows what he needs to do, and follows through on it.
  22. Jackson worked very hard on his strength and speed to become an outstanding football player. He has earned everything he's gotten or received. We are proud of him, and it has been a blessing to be his coach. Any time one of our guys gets to go to Georgetown, we are excited for them and the opportunity- a great program with a tremendous staff. Best of luck to Jackson and all the Tigers next falll! David Buchanan
