Central struggled getting good looks in the 1/2 court for most of the night, much of what they got came directly as a result of this kid getting to the paint and making the LCA bigs help and rotate. So 16 points + non-stat initiation of ball movement that led to others getting good looks. Cozart definitely altered the LCA attack on the other end, and Minter being able to break them down off the dribble was a big contributing factor to the win.

I concur Lawnboy, Paris made them look slow and unable to control or adapt to the faster pace. This week LCA began posting up all three of their bigs, exploiting mismatches, and relying less on the 3 point shot. Particularly the quick 3. Slower pace, less run-outs, less fatigue in 4th, fresher on defense, stronger with the ball. LC is good at forcing pace but tonight they were never able to do so, and they had been able to twice vs. LCA earlier this season. Same vs. Dunbar on Tuesday. LCA is a really smart team - not sure they can take Scott Co., but I wouldn't want to play them.

Let him finish the play, then award bonus points for the added sick handles. Scoring should be adjusted this way all the time - the sicker the handle, the more artistic the dribble move, the more points that should be awarded for the made shot that ensues. And maybe just eliminate the pass altogether, team play and sharing the ball is so overrated.

a really good analysis I personally would switch LC and PLD, even though PLD did slip a bit down the stretch. I think PLD wins the matchup this week and not just because of TH; PLD can apply athletic pressure and force a frenetic pace, the one thing LC has struggled with consistently. LC will stay close, perhaps even lead into the 4th, then PLD will make a run and pull away. completely agree with everything else

was a definite trap game for PLD, no doubt. But yes I agree, a great win for West during a rollercoaster season. Hollingsworth is so good - this was a 'last team with the ball wins' type of game.

in total agreement with this. We already have seen the game trend towards 'either shoot the 3 or go all-out to the rim, 3's or layups or fouls going for layups are all we want'. If I were still coaching this would certainly be my approach. The reward-to-risk ratio for doing this now outweighs mid-range or post play by quite a bit. I love seeing the defense rewarded for being in position and staying on their feet. Take that away completely and I agree with you, game changes significantly and not in a good way. I like the more generic 'advantage gained' concept mentioned earlier here, reduce the need to see the high-speed detail of what might have actually happened (with defender's feet, when player jumped, etc.) and assess the general perception of the play. Which player was in control, in a good position, was making an attempt to score vs. just trying to draw contact (offensive version of the 'flop'), things like that. In theory, anyway. No clue if it could be administered.
