I like the Lady Royals chances with this draw.

I also think it needs to be mentioned that Hinson has never had to deal with issues you may come across at schools like Mason, Campbell, GRC, MoCo, Paris, Bourbon, etc.. He's always been with good kids that listen and respect him, I highly doubt he has to deal with attitudes and egos that you might run across at other schools. That's why I'm not sure he would be successful at MaCo IF he ever got the opportunity or wanted it. It's a whole different ballgame when you go from coaching at St. Pat-Augusta-Bracken to Mason-Campbell-Montgomery.

Mason County only has two players on their team this year that played minutes last year, Dunnaway and Lofton. Biggs molded this team together after all the drama with Garrison quitting and still beat the best Bracken County team in 20+ years. We should be talking about how good of a coaching job this was by Biggs instead of making excuses for Hinson and the Polar Bears.

Yep, you sure hit that nail on the head. We're all very jealous of a school that hasn't won anything since 1999.

Geeze what're they putting in the water in Brooksville? Lol Hinson isn't that good of a coach and Bracken County has YMCA talent (with the exception of Crawford) with Championship aspirations. It just isn't gonna happen folks. Hinson had these guys ready to go in the All A, Hinson had these guys ready to go last night, and Hinson will have these guys ready to go in Region. BUT GUESS WHAT, it doesn't matter because it's all going to end the exact same way, WITH A LOSS.

Mason County went 3 minutes in the 4th quarter without a point, Bracken had the opportunity to win, they just didn't and it's really as simple as that. We can all sit here and say "well this was called a foul or this wasn't called or they missed this many bunnies" but at the end of the day they had a chance to win the game and didn't. Credit to Buddy Biggs, people aren't happy with him as coach and yes I started that thread when I heard he was retiring, but the guy can flat out coach.

Just like I said, Jason Hinson only has his reputation because of Brent Bach. Glad my game score prediction was wrong, would've hated to see that 20 game streak come to an end.

The year he didn't have the best player Mason Co. beat Augusta 77-44 in the District Championship, so his record isn't very good against good competition without a star player. And just for the record, Austin Crawford is no Brent Bach.

I feel like something that is getting lost in the midst of all of this is how big of a game this is for Jason Hinson. At Augusta he won two District Championships with a great player (Bach) and less overall talent on the team as the "Big Three" (Maddox, Snapp, and Crawford) weren't really developed yet during those two years. Those two Augusta teams were weaker top to bottom than this years Bracken team and beat very solid Mason County teams two years in a row. So if Hinson doesn't win this game does it change the perception from he was a great coach at Augusta who made history with a mediocre team to he was an average coach at Augusta who was made who he is by one of the, if not best, to ever play in an Augusta jersey? Because let's face it, Mason County isn't going/can't go much more downhill from where they are now, and Bracken County isn't going get much better than where they are now.

I think Scott wins this one along with the Region, they seem to have Mason County's number (who I think is still the best team in the Region). So as long as they don't get the short end of the stick in the draw I like their chances.

Last year this game was much closer than everyone anticipated, could the same thing happen this year? Thoughts and predictions on what happens tonight in the Fieldhouse.

My heart wants a Scott W, but my head says Campbell. Camels by 8.

I still believe Bracken will win this game, they are better fundamentally, defensively, and more disciplined than the Royals. I've seen MaCo become a very selfish basketball team and if Biggs lets them play 1v5 tonight it will be a very long night for the Royals. The key for the Royals will be sharing the ball and staying disciplined on defense, if they do that I can see them winning the game, but if not I see a Polar Bear victory by 10+. Hopefully officiating won't help dictate the outcome of this game and both teams play to their potential. :ylsuper:

I agree that kids who receive full academic scholarships to schools deserve recognition, but lets not forget that it is easier and more common to receive scholarships for academics than it is for athletics. My college scholarship was partial athletic and partial academic because most schools just don't offer full rides for sports other than football and basketball. But I think we are getting away from the main reason I posted this thread which was people taking advantage of the situations and high school coaches using it for their own benefit instead of what is best for the athlete and their family.

The school that this event occurred had has had 4 D1 signings in the class of 16 & 17 with each individual getting financial support from the Athletic Departments of their universities and it just frustrates me that this individual was trying to get same recognition that those 4 students who put in their hard work and earned it.

It still is one of the more appealing jobs in the state, the talent and support is there. All they need is the right person in the position.

He was saying the Letter of Intents are different, the NCAA D1 & D2 NLI is far more in depth. The NAIA NLI is basically a piece of paper from the admissions office. If you aren't receiving athletic scholarship then there is no purpose of a NLI.

Mason County has several of their players playing baseball at the next level, shouldn't they be in consideration for best in the region? :lol2:

I'm referring to kids who are signing and not getting any type of financial support from the athletic department. The situation I am talking about in partiticular involves a student who has not played a single minute of high school varsity baseball but is for some reason signed to play baseball at an NAIA college. It's one thing if you have the academic background to pay for your college expenses and don't need the financial aid from the athletic department, but in this case the individual has neither the athletic nor academic background to receive a scholarship.

The same situation here, an individual here locally had a signing ceremony to play baseball at Union College. This player has not played a minute of high school varsity baseball and the high school coach also has connections at Union College. It just blows my mind that this stuff happens, if it were my kid they would not being doing a signing ceremony unless they earned the right to have one. Bottom line.

Kids having signing ceremonies that aren't getting any athletic scholarship is basically the same as giving participation trophies, which is what I believe @Basketball12345 is saying. The purpose of signing a National Letter of Intent is to accept an athletic scholarship to a certain school, so if you aren't receiving a scholarship then you shouldn't be having a signing ceremony. IMO.

Recently in the news near me, high school athletes have been going through the signing ceremonies just to play JV sports at NAIA schools, these individuals have never started a high school varsity sport and yet they go through the “signing process”. As a former high school athlete it irritates me to see this. Not because I'm not happy for the individuals to get the opportunity to play at the next level, but because if you are going to play JV then it really isn't much different from playing intramural or club sports at a big university. It’s unfair and ridiculous for those individuals to get the same recognition as those who have signed legitimate NLI. That being said, I think signing ceremonies should only be for those who are receiving athletic scholarships. If you aren't going on scholarship then there's no difference in you or Tom, Dick, and Harry who are going to the same school just for academics and are paying for it out of their pocket. It seems to me as if people are starting to take this situation less and less serious because more and more of these type of situations are occurring. There should be some type of standard/requirement to meet in order to go through the signing ceremonies.
