Dunbar has a history of hiring coaches, Paul Rains is an excellent football coach and couldn't win at Dunbar. Good luck to Coach Mullins but this a very surprising hire. It just goes to show you what most administrators are looking for now and that is a teacher before a coach. The pressure is mounting in public education for these schools to get test scores and not about hiring the best coach. I saw a stat the other day which stated since 2005 coaching in general has seen a reduction in workforce of 25%. This is sad and IMO don't see the trend changing much over the years.

Who would want to coach at Greenup county? Always going to be the third wheel behind baseball and basketball. Dunbar not great situation but congrats to coach Mullins.

Open Job: Montgomery County

Like I said in an earlier post heard talks had broken down for both parties. -
It's pretty sickening to see how they hire anymore. What happened to just hire the best football coach that has applied? What happened to giving everybody a fair shot at a job? It's amazing at the people hiring for these positions and most never even played a down of football for example. Yet another glaring reason why more and more people are giving up on coaching because administrators have no clue.

Honestly Montgomery county history is very bad and wouldn't shock me to see them hire an average to below average head coach. If you look at the overall history of Montgomery county football it's very weak. good luck to the Indians -

I understand but in this example you have a guy that wants to get back in state retirement and you have that in him with much more experience that anybody presently on staff. -

Silly move not to hire McPeek if they get a chance. It's been over 2 years since the KHSAA stuff and people are starting to see the light IMO. More and more schools are doing homework on the situation from what I'm hearing and he's getting more phone calls. I thought he was going to Bell County though from the other threads. -

Everyone can have opinion of the so called baggage but personally I would hire him today because he cares about the kids and he knows how to be successful. As I stated from what I've heard many people have looked into this baggage and satisfied with what answers they received. -

Mcpeek was offered the job but not sure if he has accepted it or not. I'm hearing Bell did some major background checks on the Fairview stuff and they received the answers they were looking for before they offered the position. I heard the KHSAA and others involved gave mcpeek a very good report. Whether Mcpeek takes the position or not that is what I've heard about the current situation. Bell is a rich tradition based school in football but areas like Bell County are really suffering with the current status of coal/railroad. -
Heard Jaggers and Nate McPeek associated as well

Looks like this is happening from what I've been told. -
Agreed B.E. like many HS hire the youth league coach because he is best friends with somebody high up but won't rattle any cages. (status quo)
-
To be fair the violation was a grading ineligibility issue of a transfer student had nothing to do with recruiting. You can read the report its public knowledge and in the KHSAA and OEA report on the superintendent no evidence of recruiting was found. So honestly your statement isn't truthful

Heard many wanted Nathan McPeek but principal decided not to move on it.

Hearing making final push to McPeek

I just can't get over how these hirings take place and the people that get the jobs. It's amazing to me the process of how to go about interviews and selecting a head football coach. No offense to some of these guys that have gotten jobs but surely to goodness better candidates are out there. Why would a school hire the MS head football coach? Why would a school not go after head coaching experience? I understand so many places want to stay status quo and not spend money but why even have a program? I'm not saying in every case that lesser qualified people can't handle the job but overall I'm sure it's been a disaster if you look at the hires over the years. Anyway just curious what everyone's thoughts are on this subject? It just seems like to me more and more administrations care less and less about the kids and more about the numbers it's sad.

Bell would be lucky to get the caliber of coach Nathan McPeek is. lioneagle it's fine to have an opinion but to defame character is crossing the line. -
Yes but Just hearsay didn't know if anyone else knew anything.
