Top 10 1. Rowan County (16-6) The Vikings destroyed Greenup County last Tuesday in a rematch of last year's first round region game. A 60-42 road loss to Mason County brought the Vikings back down to the earth. Ryne Callahan continues to be the catalyst for the offense. District seed games with Fleming County and Bath County are on tap this week. 1A. Boyd County (18-4) The Lions split games with Russell and Madison Central last week. It was an impressive showing in Richmond with Logen Thovsen leading the way with 14 points in the tough 60-59 loss to the Indians. The Lions bench has been impressive of late and that bodes well for the postseason. 3. Elliott County (15-5) An Elite Eight appearance in the All A state highlighted the Lions week. Eighth grader Corbin Spencer showed his talent on the state stage with 20 points in a win over KCD. This team continues to play good basketball for Coach Greg Adkins. A busy week at home for the Lions with West Carter, Ashland, and Wolfe County visiting Sandy Hook. 4.East Carter (11-10) The Raiders are now above .500 after wins over Ashland and West Carter last week. Big man Evan Brooks is a great complement to the perimeter duo of Connor Greene, Cameron Sparks, and Donald Damron. A district preview Tuesday with Morgan County should be interesting. 5. Morgan County (14-5) Jordan Perry and Holden Redparth led the Cougars to a nice win over Lewis County Friday night 59-42 after easily disposing Fleming County Tuesday 80-52. A nice three game homestand begins tonight with Paintsville. 6. Raceland (15-6) The Rams had an up and down week. A tough home loss to St Patrick 62-51 was followed by a hard fought road win over West Carter. Jacob Blair and Tyler Morris continue to be mainstays for the Rams. Rivals Fairview and Greenup County are on the schedule this week. A win over GC gives the rams the district's #1 seed and a date with Russell in the district tournament. 7. Lewis County (9-12) Like most region teams the Lions continue to search for consistency. A solid 71-61 win over Estill County was followed by a disappointing 59-42 road loss to Morgan County. Jordan Davis is streaky but can really help the scoring load carried by Jake Parker and Trenton Walker when he is on. The Lions try to get their hopes for the #1 seed alive with a win over Russell this Friday. 8. Fleming County (9-13) The Panthers are mired in a three game losing streak. Losses to Paris, Morgan County, and Harrison County are not bad though. Wilder Willimas continues to be the work horse for the Panthers. A tough week lies ahead with Rowan County, Campbell County, and Ashland on the docket. 9. West Carter (7-13) The Comets are steadily improving as the postseason approaches. Big men Ben Jordan and Hayden Roe are now getting scoring help from shooting guard Dalton Brown who was on fire in narrow losses to Raceland and East Carter last week. The Comets tangle with Elliott County for the fourth time tonight in Sandy Hook. 10. Greenup County (7-15) The talented Musketeers round out this week's Top 10. An embarrassing loss to Rowan County was followed with a solid district win over Russell 57-47 and a tough road loss at Pikeville 70-62. Gage Hughes and Jair Jackson form a nice one-two punch for GC. Chase Porter nailed a 35 footer at the horn to propel the boys from Sandy Hook to the title. A fourth matchup with the Cougars is on tap Monday and the Lions will play 8th region champion Owen County on Thursday in the All A state tournament. 4. East Carter (9-10) The Raiders split last week against 61st District squads. A loss to surprising Fleming County 65-57 on the road Tuesday as big man Evan Brooks was out due to illness. The Raiders had an easy win on Friday over Bath County as guards Cameron Sparks and Connor Greene continue to light up the scoreboard. A visit to Ashland and a huge home rivalry game with West Carter highlight this week's slate. 5. Morgan County (12-5) The Cougars were 1.6 seconds from an All A region title last Thursday. Instead Elliott County pulled off the miracle to advance. The Cougars bounced back to beat Magoffin County on Friday. The one-two punch of Perry and Redparth is lethal. The Cougars get a Lion week as they play Elliott County yet again and Lewis County. 6. Raceland (13-5) The Rams may have had the biggest seed win of the week by defeating Lewis County in Vanceburg on Friday. Jacob Blair shook off an ankle injury to pour in 21 points. The win puts the Rams at 4-0 in district play and in the driver's seat for the #1 seed. A busy week looms with games vs West Carter, St Patrick, and Menifee County. 7. Lewis County (8-11) The Lions proved this region is up for grabs with a huge upset win over Boyd County last Tuesday. Jake Parker led the way with 20 points. A crushing home loss followed on Friday to district rival Raceland. The Lions look to find some consistency with games vs Estill County and Morgan County this week. 8. Greenup County (6-13) The Musketeers had a full week off to heal some injuries on their squad. They will travel to Morehead Tuesday to take on the Vikings of Rowan County and then head to Russell Friday for a matchup with their county rival. 9. Fleming County (9-11) Coach Lamont Taylor is doing a stellar job with the Panthers this season. Another impressive win on Tuesday over East Carter was followed by a loss to a very talented Paris squad. Wilder Williams has to be the region's most underrated player. This team could be a darkhorse if guard play improves as Ben Jordan and Hayden Roe are impressive in the paint. Logen Thovsen, Reid Rowsey, and Tanner Evans have been great complimentary players to Conner Gauze and Bobby Anderson this season. The Lions tangle with Lewis County and arch rival Ashland this week. 1A.Rowan County (14-4) Justin Graham continues to light up the scoreboard for the Vikings. He poured in 33 in a game last week. The Vikings fell to 12th Region power Wayne County 87-73 on Saturday. Consistent post play will be the key for the Vikings down the stretch. An interesting game vs GRC is on tap Thursday. 3. Elliott County (12-4) The Lions continue to impress the region with consistent team play. A win over East Carter pretty much sewed up the #1 seed in the 62nd for the Lions. From the Griffith twins to Chase Porter to the twin towers Holbrook and Howell the Lions are solid. The All A region championship is their goal this week. 4. East Carter (8-9) The Raiders rebounded from a Tuesday loss to Elliott County with an impressive overtime win over Morgan County on Friday. Freshman Brady Bush gave the Raiders an unexpected boost in the win. This team will be a tough out due to coaching and the guard play of Connor Greene and Cameron Sparks. 5. Morgan County (11-4) The Cougars lost a thriller at East Carter but bounced back with wins over Bath County and Raceland to advance to the All A region finals. Jordan Perry and Holden Redparth continue to be one of the regions best scoring combinations. 6. Raceland (12-5) The Rams won two of three games the past week despite key injuries to Connor Messer and Jacob Blair. After barely squeaking by Russell in overtime, the Rams destroyed undermanned Rose Hill and then fell to Morgan County in the All A semis. Tyler Morris will have to pull the scoring load in a key district seed game Friday at Lewis County. 7. Lewis County (7-10) The Lions won a key district game at Russell on Tuesday but fell to Greenup County on the road Friday. Junior Trenton Walker is a stalwart for the Lions on both ends of the floor. The Lions travel to Boyd County Tuesday and then return to Vanceburg for a huge seed Friday against 3-0 Raceland. 8. Greenup County (6-13) The talented Musketeers continued their rollercoaster season with a big district win over Lewis County followed by a blowout loss at Paintsville. In between was a one-point loss to West Carter. A healthy Jair Jackson will make the Musketeers dangerous in the postseason. Sophomore Jharrell Jackson poured in 20 points in the win over Lewis County. 9. Fleming County (7-10)The Panthers almost pulled off a shocker at home vs Boyd County at home but fell 64-59. Wilder Williams has been a force in the paint and some younger Panthers are steadily improving as the season wears on. Two home games vs East Carter and Menifee County are on the slate this week. 10. West Carter (7-10) The Comets are on a two-game roll with a win over Greenup County and an impressive defeat of Fairview in the All A tourney. Big Ben Jordan notched 23 points in the win over Fairview. Improved guard play would make the Comets a dangerous team over the last month of the season. Ryne Callahan and Justin Graham continue to shine for The Vikings. Elliott County and Wayne County will be tests this week. 3. Elliott County (10-4) The Lions are on a roll. They dismantled Morgan County 60-38 and flowed it up with a hard fought win over Lewis County Friday. It has been a team effort all year long with a myriad of players scoring and rebounding. East Carter and Rowan County present tough challenges this week. 4. Morgan County (9-3) The Cougars fell to Elliott County 60-38 last week. Foul trouble for Holden Redparth left Jordan Perry to do the bulk of the scoring. Another big district game this week with East Carter looms Friday. 5. Raceland (10-4) The absence of Connor Messer didn't hurt the Rams in a win over Greenup County on Tuesday. Jacob Blair and Rodney Vance picked up the scoring slack in the win. East Carter (7-8) Another good week for the Raiders with wins over Russell and rival West Carter. Connor Greene continues to impress with his scoring and playmaking abilities. Lewis County (6-9) The Lions got a high scoring win over Bracken 85-74 then lost at Elliott County 71-63. Jordan Davis had two stellar performances and the emergence of Devon Duncan have the Lions playing better offensively. Fleming County (6-9) The Panthers were impressive in a big win over West Carter but ran into a buzz saw at Rowan County and fell to Franklin County Saturday. Guard play is the key for the Panthers. Elliott County (7-4) The Lions captured the Stultz Pharmacy Classic at Greenup County. They disposed of two district foes on the way to the title. Hunter Holbrook was impressive in the tourney and the Lions got great efforts from several other players as well. 4. Morgan County (8-2) Jordan Perry continues to show why many feel he is the best player in the region. The Cougars fell to Elliott County but bounced back with a hard fought two-point win over Greenup County Friday. Holden Redparth is Robin to Batman for the Cougars. 5. Raceland (9-3) The Rams make the biggest jump in this week's poll. This athletic group is piling up wins in bunches. Junior Tyler Morris and a trio of seniors Connor Messer, Rodney Vance, and Jacob Blair are quickly becoming a region darkhorse for 2015. 6. East Carter (5-8) The Raiders are a dangerous team. They stretched #1 Boyd County to double overtime in the AIT. Strong guard play from Connor Greene and Cameron Sparks continue to lead the Raiders. 7. Fleming County (5-7) Lamont Taylor is doing a great job in his first year with the Panthers. Wilder Williams is a top 5 player and is helping lead the Panthers to surprising five win start. 8. The three headed perimeter monster of Callahan, Justin Graham, and Larry Whelan continue to be formidable. Justin Moore was a big key in the win Saturday. The junior guard poured in 30 points in a win over Elliott County. The Lions added a big win over Wheelersburg (OH) on Saturday to remain the region's only unbeaten team. 3. Elliott County The Lions posted a win over Menifee County but fell to #2 Boyd County on Friday. Chase Porter continues to impress with double digit scoring efforts. 4. Morgan County Jordan Perry has the Cougars creeping into the region's elite teams. He may well be the 16th's best player. The addition of transfer Holden Redparth has given the Cougars another viable scoring option. 5. East Carter The Raiders made an impressive run in the EKC before falling to #1 Rowan County in the finals. Connor Greene went off for 37 points in a win over Lewis County and his running mate Cameron Sparks is proving to be one of the best sophomores in the region. A rematch with Lewis County looms on Tuesday. 6. Lewis County The Lions had an up and down week falling to East Carter by 16 but bouncing back with huge seed win over Greenup County 58-50 on Friday. Junior Jake Parker, coming off an ankle injury, had a huge game vs the Musketeers with 21 points. 7. Greenup County Two tough losses for the Musketeers last week. The Lions of Lewis County pinned a 58-50 loss on the boys from Lloyd on Friday and Jackson County came into The Greenhouse and won 65-60 on Saturday. Diaper Dandy Gage Hughes is scoring well for the Musketeers. 8. Raceland The Rams are continuing to round into basketball shape. They won two of three last week. A tough win over Ironton St Joe was followed by a loss to high fling Lawrence County. The Rams won on a buzzer beater over Phelps on Saturday on a buzzer beater by Jacob Blair. Rodney Vance and Connor Messer are playing well in their to the Ram squad. 9. Fairview The Eagles have won three in a row. They notched wins over Rose Hill, South Floyd, and Russell. Boyd County- The Lions got a huge opening season win over rival Ashland. it was also a seed win. Bobby Anderson displayed his range by draining four treys to lead the Lions to the win. Lewis County- The Lions are the surprise of the season so far, They knocked off Ashland for the first time since 2004 in their home opener. They followed it up with a hard fought win over much improved Fairview and an easy win over Bath County in the opening round of the EKC Tournament. 6'8" Jacob Kiebler has been a force in the paint for the Lions and Trenton Walker has been solid from his wing position. 4. Greenup County- The Musketeers were dominated by Johnson Central in their opener but the Eagles are loaded again. Gage Hughes and Christian Wireman led GC to a decisive seed win over Russell 72-49. Jair Jackson was dominant vs JC with 24 points and 17 rebounds. 5. Elliott County- The Lions got a huge seed win over East Carter in their opener 60-48. Sophomore Chase Porter poured in 24 points using an inside-out game. He could be a key cog to the Lions machine this season. 6. Morgan County- Jordan Perry has been on fire in two Morgan County wins. The dynamic guard has scored 35 and 37 points in his first two games. The Cougars face their first test Tuesday vs #1 Rowan County. 7. West Carter- The Comets earned a season opening win over Fairview 73-69. Rowan County downed the Comets in slow down affair 49-36 on Saturday. 8. East Carter- The Raiders ran into buzz saw in Louisa falling 94-59 to the Bulldogs on Tuesday night and then fell to Elliott County Thursday 60-48.
