Inside the 16th Region (12/8/14)

Featured Replies

Top 5 as of 12/8/14

1. Rowan County- The Vikings bounced back from an opening loss to a talented Bryan Station squad with a win over West Carter in the EKC Tournament.. They will be tested in the EKC semis by a talented Morgan County squad. Guards Ryne Callahan and Larry Whelan had solid efforts versus West Carter.

2. Boyd County- The Lions got a huge opening season win over rival Ashland. it was also a seed win. Bobby Anderson displayed his range by draining four treys to lead the Lions to the win. Reid Rowsey provided 13 points from the perimeter as well. A top 5 matchup looms Friday vs Elliott County.

3. Lewis County- The Lions are the surprise of the season so far, They knocked off Ashland for the first time since 2004 in their home opener. They followed it up with a hard fought win over much improved Fairview and an easy win over Bath County in the opening round of the EKC Tournament. 6'8" Jacob Kiebler has been a force in the paint for the Lions and Trenton Walker has been solid from his wing position.

4. Greenup County- The Musketeers were dominated by Johnson Central in their opener but the Eagles are loaded again. Gage Hughes and Christian Wireman led GC to a decisive seed win over Russell 72-49. Jair Jackson was dominant vs JC with 24 points and 17 rebounds.

5. Elliott County- The Lions got a huge seed win over East Carter in their opener 60-48. Sophomore Chase Porter poured in 24 points using an inside-out game. He could be a key cog to the Lions machine this season.

6. Morgan County- Jordan Perry has been on fire in two Morgan County wins. The dynamic guard has scored 35 and 37 points in his first two games. The Cougars face their first test Tuesday vs #1 Rowan County.

7. West Carter- The Comets earned a season opening win over Fairview 73-69. Rowan County downed the Comets in slow down affair 49-36 on Saturday.

8. East Carter- The Raiders ran into buzz saw in Louisa falling 94-59 to the Bulldogs on Tuesday night and then fell to Elliott County Thursday 60-48. The Raiders notched a 53-32 win over Russell Saturday behind Evan Brooks 18 points.

9. Raceland- The Rams fell to a strong Shelby County squad 64-46 on Saturday in their opener. The addition of Connor Messer and other footballers will improve the Rams quickly.

10. Fairview- The Eagles may be the region's most improved squad by season's end. They lost two tight games to West Carter and Lewis County and then rebounded with a win over South Floyd. Antwan Washington was impressive in all three games for the boys from Westwood.

Did you forget Ashland?

Did you forget Ashland?

Ashland doesn't seem like a top 10 team in the region, as crazy as that sounds.

I look for the Tomcats to be in the mix down the road. 0-3 start does not merit top 10 yet.

I was told that Lewis had not started 3 and 0 in 20 years?

I was told that Lewis had not started 3 and 0 in 20 years?

That is probably true. Hampton has been known for scheduling tough teams early in the Lions schedule and he has been the head man for about 15 seasons now.

Crazy indeed. I would think a 0-3 Ashland team would still be Top 10 in the region. If they're truly not...gonna be a LONG year.

It appears that the 16th is way down this year. If Rowan is the top team then the region is waaaay down.
