  1. Union has a little playoff history with Adair, beating them in 08 on the way to losing to Central in the semi's. Beat them again in 09. Union won 6 of 10 playoff games during their last journey into 3A. But as they say, that is history and the trip to Adair will be a long and difficult journey for Union.
  2. This was a great high school football game, final score Mayfield 25 Caldwell 24, game over, final result. We can all look forward to the playoffs and to the the rematch in Mayfield next year with the same three teams.
  3. There are several good clock men in Western Ky. but a couple stand out. The best are in basketball. They can steal several minutes during the course of a game and in a 32 minute game that can be the difference.
  4. No doubt one of Barnes best teams ever but still no match for the Cardinals tonight. That big old Tiger overlooking the stadium doesn't scare this bunch, they have been there before.
  5. Owensboro - Henderson (city and county) third longest rivalry in the state, behind Male - Manual and Mayfield - Tilghman. I think the Devils stop the losing streak tonight. This game definitely Woody Hayes football.
  6. Great victory over a powerful Trojan team to get ready for the playoffs.
  7. This Adair team is loaded and will have no problems with the Rebels this year. The Indians average victory margin around 24 a game and that figure will probably not decrease any. The Indians secured the 2 seed last week and getting ready for a deep run in the playoffs. This game will only be a tune up.
  8. James Robison, Union County - All around football player, leading receiver last year, Quarterback this year, plays both ways, punts and whatever else that is needed - starting guard on the basketball team - plays center field and pitches on the baseball team - one of the best athletes in Western Ky. that nobody knows about.
  9. Yes, they will be going to Paducah for the semi's
  10. After falling behind 14-0, Union County wins this game 62-27. Union's Dontae Smith rushed for 374 yards and five touchdowns.
  11. -----As I have said on here many times, don't know a lot about football except what I read but there are times when I don't learn much from what I read. My prediction is very simple in the West, The so called flawed Tilghman team wins region one by beating Caldwell and then will entertain Central for the right to go to BG with Central winning that game in a close one-----
  12. Make no mistake about it, this is a good football team. Dunigan's return will only make them better. There were a couple of over thrown passes tonight which would have been easy td's, two field goals on short 4th down plays instead of going for the first down. McEwen and Prather are hard to contain, speed, speed, speed. Tilghman shut down Union's running game. The Union QB had some passing yardage but was running for his life all night long. This no doubt one of the best 5-3 teams in football. No one wants to see this team in the playoffs including the so called big three. I have a feeling the region 2 winner will be coming to Paducah.
  13. This is the best Caldwell team Barnes has had including the Sindelar years but will be a great task getting to the finals. The advantage they might have is playing at home. That big Tiger overlooking the field is a daunting sight. Of course they have a chance and will be a tough out. E-Town and Adair have played very weak schedules and have no chance getting to the semi's let along the final. I think the 3 seed from region one will beat the loser of their game this week in the first round. Central always has to be in the mix for a state championship.
  14. Scribe, you are making an assumption in your analysis that Union loses to Tilghman next week. If Union beats Tilghman, they are the 2 seed no matter what happens in the Trigg game.
  15. Hughes will probably play but Max Howard, the freshman will start at QB instead of Jones.
  16. Chatter in Henderson this afternoon that Hughes and Cash Jones may not play this week due to injuries. I don't know but it doesn't matter anyway, McCracken rolls.
  17. Interesting talk about McCracken, huge school with the best possible facilities, able to recruit from Tn. but WHAT IF there were no classes in football like other sports and McCracken would be in the same district as Mayfield (2a) and Tilghman (3a), they would not be even a shoo in to win their district on a regular basis. Talking about them being a state power in football to me is not realistic. Several Louisville schools on an annual basis would keep them from getting to the championship game from the West. Time will tell but I think McCracken will be an under performing school for it's size in most sports just like Henderson.
  18. Neither ranked but a big game this week for both programs is Union County at Fort Campbell.Long bus ride and a very tough game for Union to win. Don't anyone be deceived by the Falcons 2-4 record. They just might be the best 2-4 team in football. They started out 0-4 with losses to Mayfield (#1 in 2a), Russellville (#5 in 1a) Hopkinsville (#5 in 4a) and Christian County (#9 in 5a) and the past two weeks have bombarded Fort Knox 43-8 and Trigg County 34-14, not powerhouses of course but still impressive victories. Coach McKillip has had two weeks to prepare and his senior QB is on fire, running for close to 300 yards and passing for 300 yards in those two games. Union is pretty good against the run but not against the pass. Union runs the ball well but just cannot catch the football on a regular basis. if FC wins this game, they are in the driver's seat for the 2 seed because they get Tilghman at home. If UC wins, they have Tilghman on the road and will be a tough task. Tilghman probably beats both and in that case the loser ends up being the 4 seed and traveling to E-Town in the first round. The winner ends up the 3 seed and goes to Adair. The Falcons have won the last two games against Union 42-6 and 52-20. I think the Braves task is daunting to say the least. Good luck to both teams.
  19. Many times over the years when I pass through Russellville, Ky.I have parked my car and walked up the hill to the home of the Panthers, Rhea Stadium. The massive stone wall with the stone faces of Jim Thrope, Ty Cobb, Red Grange, Jack Dempsey, Babe Ruth and Paavo Nurmi (most would have to google Nurmi to know who he was) at the entrance to the stadium is a sight to behold. Step inside and see this great old stadium built by the WPA as several were in Western Kentucky. The Panthers have been playing here for 75 years.Google Rhea Stadium for an interesting read.
  20. Score was 40-14. This game was much closer than final score indicates but was an awesome display of big plays by the Tigers - 85 yard kickoff return, two long pass plays for td's and a blocked punt. Score was 26-14 at the half, Union lost it's only receiver, Trey Hutchison right before the half due to a possible concussion. Hutchison had caught a 25 yard td pass just before the injury. No one scored in the third quarter with the Braves inside the 20 twice and the 30 once but the fantastic Tiger D kept them out of the end zone, Caldwell scored twice in the forth for the final score. Caldwell had 392 total yards compared to the Braves 338. The Braves will be a tough out for Adair in the first round of the playoffs.
  21. Doesn't matter if Cain plays or not, most in the West realize this is the best squad Barnes has had in years including the Sindelar years. Even moving up in class, Don't think even Barnes can blow the region title this year, getting to the title game might be a different story.
  22. Let's see, Madisonville beat Union 51-19 - Tilghman beat the Maroons 49-7 - Caldwell beat Tilghman 48-27, I will agree with the expert predictors on here and go with the Tigers
  23. Crittenden off to a good start but regardless of where the game is played are no match for Coach Myers and the Panthers. Not as bad but a Caldwell type score.
