Scott County DL Christien Carter has signed with Kentucky Wesleyan College. Formerly of Lloyd Memorial High School and BCPWFL.

Simon Kenton Pioneers DL JJ Courtney committed to the Mt. St. Joseph Lions. DL Treyvon Nash also committed to Mount St. Joe's.

Tomorrow, February 6, is national signing day for high school seniors to sign with a college football team. I would love to have a thread where we keep track of all the signings of high school seniors. There have been a smattering of announcements all along, we have one now for a 2020 grad. That is usually done for the D1 athletes but there are a lot more guys in our area playing in college than those who go D1. So I am proposing we make a list in one thread (this one) of where the players from YOUR favorite team are going when in college (including the D1 guys who have already been announced). I doubt I can manage such a thread so I propose that fans post the guys from their H.S. team who have signed for a college team. I have heard a few rumors from some NKY players but I will not post the rumors I have heard yet. I want to count on those BGP members who have information about their favorite team and its players. So we will need you to inform us. I will start with what I know from the Boone County Rebels. LB John Mark Shutt has signed with Concordia University of Ann Arbor (CUAA). He will compete for a starting spot on the Cardinal defense for 2019. Concordia has been a successful team over the last several years and is on an upward trajectory. They are members of the very competitive Mid States Football Association in NAIA. Member teams have won the NAIA championship 6 out of the last 8 seasons. CUAA was 10-3 in 2018 with a trip to the playoffs. They were ranked #6 nationally in the post season NAIA coaches' poll. It is a no-brainer, an 0-10 or 0-9 team does not deserve to be in the playoffs. I could not believe it when I first heard that Boone's 0-10 team had a playoff game. It gave my son his first varsity experience when he was a freshman. He got to tackle Collin England from Ryle. But it really was foolish for Boone to be in that game. So count me as one who would applaud any attempt to keep the opening playoff games between teams who earned the right to play there during the regular season.

I only remember one dunk, but there were many layups and a foul. Cov Cath literally did anything they wanted in the first half and Boone had a hard time working the ball in for a bucket. RJ Summers had a coupe of nice buckets in the post for Boone. Parker Kyle and Parker Fields supplied most of the offensive action for Boone. Sr. Yazan Orabi got several minutes in both halves and was Boone's best bet at making Cov Cath alter a shot and provide the possibility for a blocked shot. Good job by the refs.

Tony Fields posted a live video in the NKY High School Football page on Face Book. It was Coach Warner giving a speech to the players at Boone County High School. He mentions that 80-some guys showed up at some type of meeting in the gym to "fill out sheets" (that's what it sounded like). In other words, he is getting his players to recruit in the hallways. The video is from Jan. 7. At the beginning of the video he introduces his staff. He does say this is not the entire staff but what he knows at this time. I did the best I could to write down the names in the order they were introduced as I listened and played it back. Here's what I got: 1. Coach Dave Eckstein is Offensive Coordinator. He worked with the team in 2018 some after the season started. His role was to assist the OC at the time. He is a tremendously positive person. I would have liked to get to him a little better. ALso, former HC at Ryle and many years as an assistant at Boone. Owen Hauck protege'. 2. Coach Turner -- no role was named. I don't know him. 3. Coach Tackett -- DL, wasn't present at the meeting. I don't know him but I am guessing he is from Ryle. 4. Coach Collinsworth -- Defensive Coordinator. I believe he was Assistant HC/LB coach at Ryle last season. 5. Coach Howards (?) -- Special Teams. I am not familiar with him. 6. Coach Ben Brown -- Coach Warner said he didn't know what his role would be yet. He is a long-time Assistant Coach at Boone. I believe he was DC and Dline coach this last season. He is probably the most beloved coach at Boone. Coach Warner is making a smart move by keeping him on staff. The players love him and would have been upset if he was not retained. He will provide some continuity for them. 7. Coach Black -- no role named. He was taking the video at the time. 8. Still more to come, it sounds like. Coach Warner went on to give a tremendously positive speech and is inspiring the guys to work hard towards a positive future for Boone County Rebels football. He is preaching a 1 and 0 attitude. The past is behind us, and we are looking to win the next thing that is in front of us. When that is past, look to compete and win at the very next thing. And then repeat. Go Rebels in 2019!

Good speech. He said he has a great staff in place but was not ready to announce who they are yet. Invoked Owen Hauck and his continued influence on this program. He wants to get back to Boone County football. He also mentioned Coach Eckstein as a positive influence on him. One question he refused to answer: Who was the best LB ever at Boone County? He said he couldn't answer that but that Coach Hauck had a ready answer. lol. Congratulations to Bryson Warner on his new role as Head Coach of the Boone County Rebels!

I can confirm. email and text sent out to parents and students from BCHS. Same system tht announces bus delays, etc.

I believe I remember this very discussion last season with Jake Chisholm.

It's not a serious suggestion, though there are some kids that go to RA Jones MS and wind up at Ryle, for instance. It would have been nice to have Jackson Saladin at Boone. Just me thinking about the neighborhoods that Boone has and all the new growth happening south and west of the city. Where you have new growth there will be new families that represent up and coming talent for years to come. Many of the neighborhoods surrounding Boone County high school have been there since the 60's and 70's. Those families had kids in high school back in the 70's and 80's. Older people live in those homes now and their kids are grown and moved away. There are few children there. So, this in turn means the talent pool available for Boone sports has dwindled and there is less of a chance of new families moving in. It was an offhand comment not meant to be taken very seriously. And definitely not intended to steer the discussion away from the topic at hand, which is who may be the new coach at Boone. There is one name that has been mentioned in this thread. I have heard this person mentioned in this context before.

He did join the staff mid-season of 2018. He is a delightful person. He and Coach Steele are longtime friends and coached together many years under Owen Hauck. I think Coach Eckstein came on board to help a friend and NOT so that he could succeed Coach Steele.
