When a team needs tough yards for a first down or a TD, whose number gets called? Some backs make their mark by being quick and fast. They make a move and outrun the defense. Other backs earn their keep by running over the opposition and are asked to make their own way. They make their yards by refusing to go down. When tough yards are needed, their number is called. Tell us who these hard-nosed backs are and include a link to their Hudl film if you can. I love watching this type of back.

Do you mean he will be a junior in Fall 2018? I love LBs like that. I have a friend whose son is a Beechie. He told me about Derry. He said when he hits a ball carrier, they just stop. Do you know his current height and weight?

Boone County Rebels MLB John Mark Shutt: 5' 11" 215 lbs. As the starting MLB in 2016, the sophomore had 91 tackles. As a junior last season, he had 127 tackles. I almost forgot about Novakovich. He missed most of the 2017 season with a shoulder (?) injury, I think. Saladin had a very good season in 2017. He was named to the Northern Kentucky Coaches' Association 1st Team Defense this year. Good kid with a big upside. Both Lbs will be seniors during the 2018 season.

Congratulations to Ryle and especially Vince Rankin. Which team wants to win this district? Cooper, Ryle, and Boone have traded wins this season. It makes for an interesting post-season.

That's great to hear that he is going to Union. There are some things I don't understand. What can you tell me about Midwestern Preparatory Academy? What is its relationship to Illinois Wesleyan University? Did he graduate from SK in 2017?

I can't deny your logic here. It is hard for me to accept though, because I hate the idea of running from anybody. But I don't think like an AD or a HC, apparently. @Fear the Nation figured it out in the very first response to your post in that old thread (see post #2). So, @theguru, you contend that Cooper, Conner, (and just for grins) Boone should play in 5A even though many years it may be hard to get very far in the playoffs due to Cov Cath and Highlands. This is better than playing in 6A because even if they get far in the playoffs they will never beat Trinity or whatever top Louisville school also in the championship game. The prospect of perhaps winning a state championship in 5A, in a year when Cov Cath and Highlands are down, and Cooper or Conner is up, is better than making multiple trips deep in the 6A playoffs but losing in the championship game. The difference between those two is so important that a parent should move his/her kid from a school that would voluntarily move up to 6A thus giving up all hope of ever winning a state championship. Does that represent what you are saying?

I think the only thing we can say we know is that it has nothing to do with avoiding Cov Cath for all the reasons stated in this thread why avoiding Cov Cath would not make sense.

You have to get it at a camp--objective 3rd party. I have heard too many fathers and kids with unrealistic expectations. We've had a few of those discussions on here about 40 times. Go to a camp and get the results in writing. Then don't embellish it. If you don't like the times, work at it and go to another camp.

excellent. makes it harder to lie about one's time Sports programs have traditionally advertised players as bigger and heavier, stronger and faster than they actually are. I tell my kid to only put down the truth on his HUDL and recruiting site. Only put your true max on the weights, what you were timed in the 40 at a camp, and what the camp measured you at in height and weight. That way there is no deception.

I guess I can give a pass to someone who is asking about a rumor they heard in order to learn the truth. But repeating stuff you don't know to be true as if it were true is unethical. If the social media platform allows anonymity the likelihood it happens goes way up because there isn't any real accountability. I think a good thing to ask ourselves before posting something like you describe is whether we would say it if our name was attached to it. I probably have posted inappropriate things here before, though I am unaware, and I try not to do it and have taken others to task for it. This thread is a good reminder to us about appropriate communication regarding things we are curious about.

Lots of linebackers are over 5.0 in the 40. I think these times are for real. I do not believe most times posted on HUDL or recruiting sites. But these times were recorded by an objective 3rd party with a stop watch (or other timing device). If these guys are the cream of the crop... the bar has been lowered, in my mind.

@Yellow Card, you were absolutely correct in the update thread. My memory failed me. My son told me way back at the first meeting that it was a close game that Cooper won. My old age and Dunlaps Disease were playing tricks on me and I couldn't chew and recall at the same time. I obviously was concentrating more on my chew than my recall. My larger point remains unchanged: Cooper probably wouldn't have been looking past Boone since it was such a competitive first matchup. It proved to be again in a very exciting double-OT win for the boys from Boone. Did someone mention popcorn?

I don't think they would since Boone beat them earlier in the year, too.
