In hopes of bringing the thread back to the actual topic... I feel that if HHS gets their snapping woes together (if you were at the game, it really killed the birds in the first half) and really focus on their tackling this week in practice they will have just as much of a shot as anyone to beat SK. Wish Matt Sherear the best of luck in this one as he faces off against many of his best friends who he grew up with at HHS.

That's great to hear. He was a great leader (very intense) on the state team that I played on in '07. Does not surprise me at all that he is doing well with coaching; can definitely motivate guys.

The Birds and Camels will face off tomorrow at 6:00pm @ HHS. Who wins? Why? Any specific players we should be checking out?

Pigskin, can you tell us anything about the young men playing for Cooper? Simply, based on what I have seen in here it sounds like they put quite a "whooping" in NCC and have some good skilled players.

I don't think anyone is insuitating that. It's a smart move by Cooper's AD to move the game. I know the young men at HHS are frustrated, but Cooper must do what is best for their program and making sure their field is ready for the varsity team on Friday is the way to do that. As an HHS fan, and a football fan in general, I would rather see a game on a dry field anyway.

For the life of me I will never understand why you can't give people a straight answer. AvidTiger asked a legit question and you just had to get smart with him. I am a die hard HHS fan; born and raised, played on a state champ team, and still have a very vested interested in the program and community as a whole, but fans on here like you drive me nuts. Why can't you simply answer his question? It is obvious to anyone who has seen the two scrimmages that the HHS' defense is still working on becoming a "team". By no means are they bad; far from it. And they took a huge step towards proving that last night. To answer AvidTiger's question: I believe that it was a combo of X's O working some issues out and Trinity's O being very, very machine like; not necessarily "explosive" but methodical that made HHS' defense look bad and then good.

Yes, the freshman will be playing. Not in a game format like the varsity will be, but they will be playing. In years past they played Trinity's "2nd JV", however, I do not know if that is true this year... But definitely playing.

What is your basis for saying the scrimmage is not competitive? I feel like I know football pretty well and the fact that you said a scrimmage between the two best programs in the state is not competitive is baffling me.

The fact that you think the scrimmage between HHS and Trinity is not competitive is absolutely laughable. I highly respect Trinity, and I can guarantee you fans/supporters of their program consider the scrimmage highly competitive. They scrimmage each other for a reason... Because they're the best programs in the state and each of them know if they win the scrimmage, they will win state. Easy. And Blockbuster, CONGRATS! SK beat Collins! Although that means nothing at all for SK, I'm happy for you.

Clyde, you touched on what made football so special to so many young men... Comradery! I will never forget the random times with my best friends before, during, and after practice. Fans remember the games on Friday nights, but as a player, nothing will compare to how close you became while no one was watching.

OK. I'm going to say what needs to have been said for a long time... HHS has lost 1 game in the last 7 years that actually matters (state). SK has done absolutely nothing! Literally, nothing in that time period. It is absolutely absurd that you continue to act like SK is so awesome. Results are results and SK has not produced any positive results and you know it. Period. Now, I know you're going to say "well HHS never plays trinity". Although that is true (aside from a scrimmage each year that is very,very competitive), SK has never, I mean never, beat anyone of any substance.

I highly doubt I am the only one who chooses not to keep talley of scores in a 7 on 7; I just choose not to because, you know, it's not actually football. I would rather watch individuals and see how they're improving. I applaud Conner for winning a 7 on 7. Congrats! However, as Ukfan and Voice of a Reason have said, I find it very difficult to believe that in REAL football game Conner would come close to beating HHS, JMO.

Behymer is still on the staff. I am not positive what he is coaching, however. Deaton is coaching WRs.

I'm pretty sure the only changes (aside from HC) to the coaching staff is the subtraction of Ryan Swope and the addition of former Dayton head coach and HHS player Zach Deaton who teaches at HHS. The freshman staff is Brady Dowling (HC), Jim Dierig, Dan Court, and Matt Reed. Any news on how the "baby birds" are doing?

I honestly do not know what the "score" of the 7 on 7 was; that would be very difficult to keep track of. I was simply explaining that HHS was working a lot on the underneath/shorter routes, or taking what the defense was giving them, because Conner's DBs and LBs were bailing right away because they knew it was going to be a pass. That is all part of winning football games... Taking what the defense gives you. No one gets better by launching the ball down field just because it's 7 on 7; creates bad, bad habits.

Beau looked solid as expected. The birds were clearly working on taking what the defense was giving them and getting better at winning games rather than winning 7 on 7s; may not be as exciting to watch as airing the ball out, but will definitely pay off in terms of winning actual football games. By no means did Conner perform poorly, but they will need some more time to adjust to life without Drew Barker. You could tell that both of the teams are itching for some competition outside of their teammates. It was very physical when the birds' defense was going against Conner's offense and neither team backed down.

He looked very good. Ryle's LBs seemed to really struggle with the size and speed combo Telek has; especially with the drag and crossing routes. I would anticipate a big year for him.
