  1. Conner JV beat Simon Kenton earlier tonight, 11-0. Complete game shutout by Conner pitcher Nate Atkins (freshman). CovCath will play Conner JV tomorrow, 7:00PM at Dixie. Game might be moved up earlier in the day.
  2. Any word on the Freshman championship game?
  3. Holmes twitter posted the following picture of work being done on Meinken Field. It was posted a week ago on May 6th.
  4. Comments reported through the tournament website: Conner JV 1 Highlands JV 0 Conner sophomore Brian Manning pitched a complete game, 2 hit shutout. Very well pitched and defensively played game by both teams. Conner advances to the Semi-finals.
  5. Freshman bracket up to date: HERE Need JV winners and scores of the Grant Co. vs. Brossart and Simon Kenton vs. Scott to update the JV bracket: HERE
  6. www.leaguelineup.com/nkyhstourney Just updated the play in games for the Freshman tournament. Surprised about Highlands losing 10-2 vs. NCC. 8 Freshman games tonight. Post scores here or through the website so I can keep the bracket updated.
  7. some issues with the website bracket. will fix later tonight.
  8. If anyone has times and locations, post them and I'll add them to the bracket.
  9. Working on brackets HERE. Let me know if there's any mistakes and where Simon Kenton fits into the bracket?
  10. I'm not the parent you would throw out of the game as I've never been thrown out before. I don't yell, you just assumed so. However, I will let an umpire know how I feel if they make multiple bad calls and why I feel that way. One doesn't have to yell to be critical. But one should be critical of a service they pay for. That's what I teach my kids. You're right, life isn't always "fair" or "right", but when it isn't one doesn't have to take it laying down.
  11. The first paragraph was in response to some of the umpire's statements in his article, particularly about his sacrifices as a "compensated volunteer" (oxymoron)...they just don't compare to those of a parent.
  12. I have some things to say as my son starts another season of playing baseball. First, as a parent, I'm responsible for taxiing my son to every game/practice/workout. This requires getting permission to leave work early, late dinners, no spring break vacation, a lot of money, and sacrificing time with other family member, with 4-6 HS games every week. My wife is not a sports fan, so baseball season can create stress between us at times. I do receive some satisfaction and great memories for my efforts and in exchange for these sacrifices. Umpires, it's your responsibility to know the rules of the game, and to call each game fairly. Don't expect my silence when you make what are clearly bad calls. I just recently had to break my silence during a game when my son was struck out twice on bad pitches. I held my tongue the first time, but not the second. During his last at bat, he was in a 10+ pitch battle, had a full count with 2 outs and bases loaded. The catcher sets up for an outside strike and had to reach out and high to catch what was clearly ball 4, but instead was called out with a backwards K. Yes, I understand umpires make mistakes, but when it's clear to everyone at the field but you, expect to hear it from me. You need to understand when you make these bad calls it can sometimes have a lasting effect on a player. Instead of 0/1 with 2 BBs, 1 RBI and .667 OBP, my son ended up 0/3 with 2 backwards Ks and a .000 OBP. That difference can very well determine whether or not he plays/starts in the next game with many players fighting for a spot in the lineup early in the season. So yeah, you're going to hear it from me when you make these kind of bad calls. I can get emotional, and how can you expect me not to be when we have so much invested into this game. Also, I'm tired of hearing about the respect we should automatically have for umpires. Respect should be earned, not given. So stop whining about parents comments and learn to do well what you are PAID to do! Then you'll have my respect. Where do you think that money comes from anyway? Some of it's from my back pocket, and when I pay for a service, I expect it to be done well. Not perfect, but well.
  13. Has any school done anything at all yet with all the cancellations? Looking at the 10 day forecast, there's only one day where the temperature is above freezing! Ugghhh!!! So getting outside is pretty much out of the question. Can coaches conduct a good HS baseball tryout entirely indoors?
  14. I think a lot of people are underestimating Conner this preseason, as they did last year when they weren't even ranked in the top 10. As mentioned earlier in this thread, they lost 4 starters in their lineup, with Ross hurting the most. However, I believe they only lost one starting pitcher (Ross). They return standouts Nick Craddock and Blaise Ostertag to the starting rotation. I understand Craddock broke school pitching records last year as a Freshman; 7-1 with a 0.40 era!!! (As per their maxpreps website). They're easily one of the top 10 in NKY, IMO.
  15. Campbell County won only 2 games against teams with winning records last year and they were both from the 15th. They didn't get a single win from any NKY team with a winning record. It's a bit of a stretch to put them in the top 5, hell even the top 10 in NKY, even if they had all their players returning.
  16. Absolutely agree! Cov Cath won more games than any other NKY team last season, going 33-7. Their JV team went 23-5. The Freshman team went 17-5. Also, their freshman class this year are unarguably the best group around with 8+ kids playing on SWOL National level teams last summer or older age groups. Cov Cath should be in any top 5 NKY list for at least the next 4 years.
  17. Not saying that's not going to happen, but I don't get why they'd do that at Meinken. The Reds Urban Youth Academy just opened this past summer with 3 High School fields (2 with grass infield and 1 turf) and a 1 softball field. Seen them first hand, and both the facility and fields are VERY nice. My son has played both HS and Fall Ball games at Meinken. Definitely could use a makeover, whatever the reason!
  18. Makes sense. I'm curious...Can anyone name some of the 15u NKY teams that didn't register with SWOL this year?
  19. When browsing the SWOL website today, I noticed something that made me go “hmmm”. At my son’s age group, 14U, I counted 17 NKY SWOL teams. At 15U & 16U the numbers of NKY SWOL teams are 5 & 7 respectively. Even if I missed one or two, that’s a significant difference. Why is this? Do that many young players decide to leave the game of baseball once reaching HS? Are there many 15U & 16U NKY travel teams that just don’t register with SWOL?
  20. Holy Cross/Conner game moved to Meinken, 7:00pm
  21. Did these players play Freshmen, JV or Varsity? For Simon Kenton, there's one Freshmen I've seen play who stands out; Kyle Casson. Plays JV, great catcher (starter?) with a nice arm, good bat and great foot speed for a big kid.
  22. Two updates I just got recently concerning the JV tournament: Conner/Holy Cross will play tomorrow, 5PM @ Conner Highlands/NCC will play tomorrow, 5PM @ Morscher
  23. At this point, I think there's no doubt Ryle has underachieved base on preseason expectations. I saw a NKY preseason coaches poll that had them at #3. For their last 10 games they are 2-8, which I believe is more losses than they had all of last year.
  24. I assume all of the tournament games were canceled this evening due to the rain. With rain expected through tonight and into tomorrow, it's possible a lot of games will not be made up tomorrow evening. If this is the case, does anyone know if will they continue to push the dates back and play the JV Championship game next week or is it possible they will have teams play multiple games on Saturday? Is there a date the JV tournament needs to be finished by?
