The only thing I'd really like to know is did Interim Coach Gillispie sincerely want this permanent job or not. I would say he earned the spot after how he rallied that team from an embarrasing public relations standpoint and made a terrific season for Manual last year. Yes, they lost to Male again, but most people did too. They beat X for only the 3rd time in 30 years. They lost a heartbreaker in double OT to a good Ballard team. I'd say that was a good audition. I think Coach Eckloff did a good job at Seneca; but this ain't Seneca (honestly, no offense meant).

You have a right to your opinion, but this is inaccurate. Walker Wood rushed 200 times in 2016 for 1320 yards while Jamale Carothers rushed 181 times for 1410 yards in 2016 Jamale Carothers won the award fair and square accounting for 5 TDs in the 2016 5A Championship game. IMO

Wow, this surprised me too! Tommy Muse has been around Barren County Football since 2007. That's a long commitment. I applaud that. They aren't great, but like @BillNye said, it's not a talent saturated area and likely get the most out of what they have. Or maybe not? I don't really follow the Trojans; just topically. I'm sure they know this, but with Reclassification coming (2025) and no playing up. Guess where they are likely to end back up? Back in in 5A District 2 with BG. But with South likely moving up, that isn't all bad for them. Indeed, who will Barren County select now?

Pretty sure no football players played. BG led by 1 after 1Q; led by 2 at halftime; Etown led by 1 after 3Q and obviously ETown pulled it out at the end by 7. Etown is a good team. Congratulations to them. I expect them to have a good year. It'll take a little bit for BG to get their full team together and meshed, but once they do; they will be tough.

What an odyssey!! When the important words in your verbiage continue to be words like "interim", "may end up being", "but is technically open" and "looks like" doesn't give me the impression this rollercoaster is stopping for many YEARS to come. I hate they have to go through this but seems at least half they created.

I used to do this at Old Cardinal Stadium and it was great! Paid one ticket and stayed all day! Saw some great games. All about the $$$$$$. I'm sure UK charges them quite a bit.

Terrific write up as always @DragonFire! I'm curious to see how BG does against a good ETown team tomorrow and then a good Glasgow team later this week. The Dragons will regroup once they get their players healthy again. Both BG games will be a battle as usual.. Thx for the writeups on Russell County and Monroe County. Good to hear they are doing well.

This will be an interesting hire. Have heard some rumors and didn't believe it. So I'm interested to see who they hire in Etown. I think it's a good job for the future. Etown will continue to grow. Do those in the know expect this to be decided soon or in the 1st quarter of next year? Didn't know if there was a 30 day open window process, and interviews, etc. they will definitely do.

So the KHSAA will determine this reclassification during the 2024 calendar year correct?

Alot of those competitive games were already played before the State Championships. Boyle vs Corbin for example.

1. Centrally is subjective. For the 2A participants it wasn't so central. 2. The Saturday 8 pm game is a rough slot. 6A should take their turn with this for awhile as @VF111 said, but their coaches complain about it the most and why they don't have that slot right now. 3. @VF111 While I 100% agree with you, you won't get Lynn Family Stadium. They asked and the ownership isn't interested in hosting American football games there. I'm sorry to say. 4. Feel it is fair to move the venue ever so often. It can be at UK for the majority; but change is good IMO. WKU, UofL, EKU, etc. Zero atmosphere at UK.

What a great article and inspiring story. Really happy for the Mayfield community to get another State Championship, but somehow this one feels like it means a little more due to the tornado and all the adversity the Purchase Area dealt with and is overcoming. Way to go Lincoln and Mayfield!
