6A South Warren (2-1) at 5A Bowling Green (1-2)Second game of this series with South now moved up to 6A. South overwhelmed BG last season 45-14 in a game at South Warren that wasn't really in question if I'm honest. But it was just 17-7 South at the half. So, you could say BG was still in striking distance and that was true. But three straight BG turnovers produce 21 quick South Points and that's all she wrote. This game will continue to be one of the most anticipated games in South-Central Kentucky. But historically, there has usually been a second game in the playoffs (has been all but 3 of the 9 seasons they have played) and in those games one of these teams sends the other one home for the season and that is a bitter pill to swallow. But this is a different era now! This is a great game for the community and KY High School Football in general, not to mention the best gate game either will have all season long by a long shot! The thing about these games with these two teams is that you have no clue how they will play out and that's what really makes them "must see' entertainment. Case in point are the games from the 2024 season. The regular season game at Bowling Green saw the Purples run out to a 24-14 lead with about 8 minutes to play in the 4th Quarter. If you've watched many BG games, they don't usually lose when this scenario arises, but give South credit, they never quit and Bryce Button orchestrated 2 late 4th Quarter TD strikes to stun BG at home and win 28-24. I truly thought Bowling Green was the better team that night. Then onto the Black Friday Semi-Final rematch at South Warren. Just unpredictable. BG ran the first two kickoffs to the house and never took 1 offensive snap from center in the entire first quarter and still led the game 14-7 after 1Q. But South was really strong this game, outgaining BG roughly 450 yards to 175 yards (not including the special team's yards). With BG up 24-21 in the 4th quarter, Deuce Bailey converted a 4th and 8 from the South 30 (selling the pass and then tucking and running) with about 8 minutes to play. BG would punch that drive in and ultimately outlast the Spartans on a very cold night. I truly though South Warren was the better team that night. Link is here: Facebook Sporting Times also does a great job and their feed link here: Home | Sporting Times South Warren Spartans Information:When you speak about the South Warren team, the first player that comes to mind is SR QB Camden Page who is playing very well with a roughly 70% pass completion rate with nearly 500 yards and 6 TDs through the first two games. He is a very solid leader for South. JR RB Jamir Boards and SR WR/RB Isiah Bridges are good players for South Warren and dangerous in their offensive system. South Warren has a good Oline. Defensively, South will pressure you every play. But they are missing SR DL Jaquise Smith and likely a big reason they struggled against Manual in Week 2. Bowling Green Purples Information:Bowling Green comes into this game after a Tecmo Bowl players dream game against Scott County where the offenses scored on every possession but one and see the Purples having to regroup here after a 51-44 setback. Offensively, it was Bowling Green's best game of the year. But defensively, it was their worst game of the year. Scott County plays an offense unlike really any other team. So, it will be interesting to see how BG will perform in this rivalry game. Against Scott County, SO QB Anthony Davis continued to make progress and played very well as BG had to keep scoring to stay in that game and they did that overall. Defensively, the Purples will need to regroup quickly. Game Information:Currently, South Warren is on a 1-game win streak in this rivalry series. This game will be played at Bowling Green, which is an advantage (even if it's just to get away from the South game announcer). I look for South Warren to try to run the ball and sprinkle in quick easy passes. Isiah Bridges is a threat to the outside and BG will need to be aware of where he is. For the Spartans defense, I look for them to pressure BG early and often. South won't want the SO QB Davis to get comfortable passing. So, I feel like they will blitz/run-blitz most plays to try to stop BGs run and rattle the QB at the same time. They are a tough group and very well coached. I do think they will continue to miss DL Jaquise Smith though and will be interesting to see if BG can gain any traction due to this. For the Purples, value each possession and don't turn the ball over. BG has lost the turnover battle 2 games in a row and lost both games. Need to reverse that trend. It's going to be a super-charged atmosphere Friday night at Bowling Green High School! Can the Purples hold serve at home or do the Spartans extend to 2 rivalry game wins in a row? Who wins this rivalry matchup and why?

If you didn't really care who won, this was a really good high school football game, especially if you love offense. Congrats Scott County! Emengo is a difference maker. Need to strike while the iron is hot as next year likely won't be as easy with a kid like that. He made play after play tonight. Hats off to him. The BG offense was good. The play calling was fine and BG scored except for the one 4th Quarter drive. I can see this offense making plays in the playoffs. The BG defense has to restart tomorrow. I mean everything. Hard to watch that. I can't see this defense doing anything in the playoffs. Just another Iron Man game next week vs South! Absolutely brutal schedule for this young team. Just Wow!

BG just not making enough plays. Had an INT in your chest. Lost a fumble. Can't make those mistakes if you want to win. Offense is fine, but defense has to regroup (Mr. Obvious).

Plato, Obviously, it depends on how much time you have and how much you want to spend. There is pretty much anything and everything anyone could ever want along Scottsville Road in BG from sit down dining to fast food. The easy choice is DoubleDogs located within 2 miles of the stadium. It's a sit-down location. Although the Rafferty's near here is THE ORIGINAL RAFFERTY'S. So, there's that too. If you need to be fast, I'd get Slim Chickens on the go which is about the same distance from the field. It's in with a Shell Gas station, but hey that's 2 birds with one stone for me. Good game here! Apollo should be rightfully high as a kite here coming into this game avenging a loss from a really good Hills team in 2025 and winning in exciting fashion in OT last week. I just think the OCath defense is better than the Apollo defense. So, I'll go with the Aces here. Good luck to both teams and no injuries!

5A Scott County (2-0) at 5A Bowling Green (1-1) These two historically strong programs have only met twice on the gridiron even though they scrimmaged each other in the 2021-2024 timeframe. But we will not be scrimmaging this coming Friday Night in Bowling Green's Home Opener as the Cardinals bus down from Georgetown for the roughly 2.5-hour trip. The very first meeting was the 2000 New Image Grid-Iron Bowl at Scott County with the Purples coming away with a narrow 7-3 win. I don't have much information on that game with the exception that Scott County Coach Jim McKee was the coach for the Cardinals back in 2000 and he's still the Head Coach now! That is remarkable and let me say Coach McKee is an asset to KY High School Football. And I found out that Coach McKee is from Harrison County and went to school there. Interesting. One thing I've always noticed about Coach McKee is that he wears a tie more than just about any coach (except maybe the late Coach Haywood did) I've seen in the last 10 years at least. Why? I think it's one of the ways he shows respect for the game. And I appreciate that old school mentality. The second matchup occurred last season, as BG made the trip up to Georgetown in their very nice new turf field and stadium at their new school campus. This was a better game than I remembered as I had to go back and look it up. BG's defense was completely befuddled in the first half and couldn't stop Scott County at all. This was also then FR QB Anthony Davis' first varsity start ever and the young man played awfully well. BG was down 21-14 at the half. A long TD pass to Emingo put Scott up 28-21 in the 4th Quarter, but BG would fight to tie it up with about 2 minutes to play. But another Emingo long pass would put Scott County up for good even though BG worked their way down into Cardinal territory near the end of the game; it just was not meant to be for the Purples and Scott County prevailed 35-28 in a great game. Scott County Cardinals InformationScott County, at least under Coach McKee, is known for running their version of the Wing T offense. And they run it extremely well. But Scott County can also throw the ball even though that isn't what they are known for. And they have very good pieces to work with in that regard. The Cardinals return underrated Cardinals QB JR Charlie Ellison. Super talented SR RB/DB Timmy Emongo returns and does a little bit of everything for the Cardinals. He is a D1 talent for sure. Scott County typically has strong lines and pursues the ball well defensively. The Cardinals overran 4A standout Franklin County in Week 1 55-24 and didn't have to punt one time. In Week 2 they ran over arch-rival Great Crossings 42 to 21. The Cardinals are ranked #3 in the BGP 5A Polls. So, I think it's fair to say the Cardinals are looking to have a great 2026 campaign. Bowling Green Purples InformationThe Purples come into this game with a mixed bag to date. A solid, convincing performance in the Rafferty's Bowl defeating 6A Bullitt East 34-7 (who defeated a very solid Franklin County squad last night) and yesterday as underwhelming a performance as I can recall falling 39-10 at 6A St Xavier. Bowling Green has a young team and they rode sustained confidence in Week 1s win. But none of that confidence seemed packed on the charter bus yesterday. BG gave St X between 14-21 points with a blocked punt in the end zone, a fumble in the endzone and a failed fake punt in BG territory. Take those free points off the board and it's a different game for sure. But BG is going to remain a work in progress going forward as BG will be the clear underdog in 4 of the first 6 games of the year. Truth be told, St. X played with desperation at home on Friday in Coach Landis' home opener. They "needed" that game and came out with great effort. I am hoping BG can follow X's example here and come out this Friday in BGs home opener vs a strong Scott County team with the type of hype and effort needed to stay in and have a chance to win this game. Plain and simple. In order to do that, BG's defense will have to have their best game of the season. Plain and simple. Game PreviewFor Scott County, they just do what you do. This isn't Coach McKee's first rodeo. They will be prepared and I expect a great game on Friday Night! I do want to shout out SR Athlete Timmy Emingo, as I feel he doesn't get as much of the State's spotlight as he likely deserves. Tremendous athlete and after Friday, I hope he continues to light up the scoreboard! The first two things that comes to mind for this game for the Purples both have to do with Bowling Green's defense. Playing the Wing T offense, which Scott County does better than anyone else in the state, presents a challenge that they have not likely seen since the last time they played Scott County about a year ago. But it took BG a whole half to get any traction at all against the Scott County offense. Will it take that long again in 2026? And secondly, the lull you to sleep then throw over the top philosophy/strategy - BG safety's simply have to be better than last season. For the Purples offense, a continued pursuit to get their athletes in space is needed here again. But in a game like this, it would simply seem like the team that makes the least mistakes and turnovers will likely win. We shall see. Who wins this game and why?

5A Greenwood (1-1) at 6A South Warren (1-1)Former district rivals square off here at South Warren High School on Friday! These 2 local teams have played 14 times beginning in 2013 with the Spartans leading the series 12-2. South Warren's victories in this series have been pretty convincing, while the 2 Gator victories have been pretty memorable. Greenwood won for the first time in 2016 with a 17-16 OT victory. The other Gator win was in 2024 as "Super-Gator' Lofton Howard powered Greenwood to a 35-21 win that earned the Gators the #2 district spot and sent the Spartans to the 3 seed and the road for the first round of the playoffs. Last season was a pretty strong effort from Greenwood as they were only outgained by about 100 yards rushing and fell 33-19 at home in a pretty competitive game. Greenwood Gators InformationGreenwood had a fine team last season and graduation always brings change. Additional change includes the beginning of the Tony Adams era as head football coach. Coach Adams graduated from Greenwood in 1997 and began his coaching career with Greenwood working under Greg Cavanah and staying on with Coach Chris Seabolt. He returned to Greenwood in 2020 as special team's coordinator and later defensive coordinator. Good luck to Coach Adams! I really don't know much about this Greenwood team, but after falling to a very solid Station Camp, TN team in Week 1. They then travelled yesterday to the Smurf Turf at Warren East and earned a hard fought 15-14 win. I don't have any info here, but great first win for Coach Adams. Congratulations. South Warren Spartan InformationThe Spartans hosted a strong Dupont Manual team on Friday night and fell 42-21. The Crimsons ran for nearly 300 yards and passed for nearly 200 yards. That's not the Spartans I know. Defensively is where they hang their hat. But its a new season and its early in the season. AND Manual may be the second-best team in 6A. So I look for South to be really focused in practice this week. Game InformationI just don't have time to be cute with words this week. I just don't see a scenario where Greenwood stays in this game. It's at South. South will be hungry to get back in the win column and think that is all it will take for the Spartans to come out on top. What are your thoughts in this game?

Only one loss in August against a great team. Regroup Red Devils. I think I'll need some consoling after the CAL vs BG game. Not looking forward to that if I'm honest.

Bowling Green hosted a good Logan County team and came away with a 38-28 win. Logan County had some good-looking Freshmen at the Greenwood Jamboree last weekend. Good luck to them! Go Purples!

Really good run down there TBC! Thanks! This is a really tough game to call. Interesting they are 5-5 in the last 10. I think this game is a toss up too. Confidence is on the Raiders side, but the Gators should be eager to bounce back playing a good team last week. I'm leaning Greenwood, but if East could get some early success and a Gator turnover or two I could see this being a late 4th Quarter game. GW 21 Raiders 14

I have to admit, I'm pretty surprised by the BGP poll here. It's been roughly 60-40 BG throughout. That's with the following going on: First home game for new head Coach Brian Landis. First home game on new turf field and video board. It's Alumni Night. It's Future Tiger Night. I'm sure X will play better than at Owensboro. Heck Rash Stadium alone is worth 7 points (I believe that). That's alot for a young BG squad to overcome on their first real road game of this very early season. @TheBallCoach mentioned a key area for BG in the Oline and Davis did take some hits, but IMO at least 50% of those hits were his fault not the Olines. Can't run to the middle of the field when you are a slender Sophomore QB. He will learn. X has good lines on both sides of the ball. IMO they went away from that too early in the Owensboro game. I don't expect that in this game. It's been said that X needs to find better execution over significant changes. I agree with that, but also wondering if some changes will be made. Probably a few. BG will probably be pretty antsy early and will need to calm down and get to business early. Can't afford to fall behind early to this strong X defense. BG played at least 10 sophomores in the Bullitt East game. Hoping that plays an advantage of not putting alot of pressure on themselves and just come out and play ball. We shall see. As @bruin66 said turnovers and penalties will carry a heavy weight in games like these and I think that is likely the overall determining factor here. I'm not trading teams. BG 13 X 10

After this game, Ganaway Jr being out won't matter very much. But this week it really matters as Ganaway's mobility would be a HUGE factor to extend plays and drives with his legs as much as he could his arm. Is what it is! At least you get him back Red Devil fans! I think the Biggs kid is a good-looking QB. He just doesn't have much experience and certainly no experience for what he will face on Friday Night in East Louisville. For Owensboro, you are the underdog - relish this opportunity! You have nothing to lose! You should be high as a kite! You just beat X for the first time ever. You are the defending 5A Champs! Go give it your best shot because after this game (and likely a feisty OCath battle) it's going to be awhile before you are in a long term game. For CAL, keep sharpening the saw! You schedule these type games to stay way yonder ahead of every other 3A team and it's working. Murray has a MASSIVE Oline so you need to not just pack it in (you're coached to well to do so, but still). Getting your starters 4th Quarter snaps is valuable for the long run.
