On the road Week 1 vs a Nationally Ranked team and it's a running clock at halftime (Ohio rules) - Wow! I picked T in the Pick 5, but I didn't expect them to win by basically 7 TDs. Good luck next week in St. Louis!

Glad I got to make this trip, always fun to do a double header the opening weekend with BG tomorrow! For the Red Devils, speed everywhere. They don't have the best lines, but their lines really battled tonight and neutralized what had to be an X advantage and it wasn't. Really hate the O starting QB went down. But it wasn't a sack it was a chosen run and he just got hit and injuries happen in a collision sport. But I thought the young O QB played admirably well. Yes he had the fumble, but hung in there. He'll be ok but maybe not against CAL. The O OLine did well. I don't think they gave us a sack. Shemwell is a beast. Dillard is a matchup nightmare. But I have to say that Ty Ashley is the biggest competitor. On punt coverage, who is the first guy down on the ball EVERY time? Ty Ashley. Speaks volumes about why UK would extend him a scholarship. For St X, honestly I expected more. But 4 turnovers against anyone is bad, but when it's against a really good team it is cripling. The OLine looked pretty good early, but felt they didn't stick with it enough. Perhaps it was because when O sensed X was struggling to pass they tightened the run defense. Likely. The X defense played well. That is a tough team to contain and honestly Os offense was throw screens and let their athletes beat you and over the course of the game they did. They also had good Walker runs too, but not the majority. Congrats Red Devils! See ya next week Tigers!

LOT Going on at Red Bull: Hadjar is injured. Lawson moves from Little Brother Racing Bulls to Big Brother Red Bull for this the first race in about 3 weeks. And Yuki Tsunoda gets another shot here in Lawson's Racing Bulls car! He will be really focused in this race. Hoping he has a good one. But the BIGGEST NEWS is Max Verstappen, 4-Time World Champion, and IMO the best driver in the World signs a new 4-Year Contract with Red Bull. That is HUGE NEWS! Lot of speculation he would go to any number of teams, but I do think Red Bull is making progress. Case in point, the last race this year was in Hungary, where in 2025 Verstappen was terrible and finished 9th (terrible for him) and over 70 seconds behind Lando Norris that day. This year he was in the thick of it and finished second. And I may be naive in saying this, but I really think he has matured some and actually likes Isaac Hadjar and has helped him more than any other "teammate" he has ever had. Maybe and maybe not. The last half of the season begins this week in the Netherlands, check it out! In the last 4 races, the top 6 drivers have been separated by a mere 9 points in the championship. That is incredible parity and makes for great racing. I'm biased but F1 is definitely worth your time to tune in. It's on Apple TV and they do a great job covering it. Better than ESPN IMO. Check it out!

Here are your mid-week Rafferty's Bowl nuggets: Ticket Information can be found here: 24th Rafferty's Bowl Sat Aug 22nd @ WKU Boyle Co v Owensboro Catholic 4:00 pm Bowling Green v Bullitt East 7:30 pm 2. This will be the last year that the Rafferty's Bowl will be held on the campus of WKU. Future games will take place at BGHS. I don't know the reason for this. I have a guess, but that's all it is. BG will have BJB stickers on their traditional gold helmets this season in honor of Ms. Betty Jo Beard who recently passed away at the age of 95. The Beard Family and BG Football go hand and hand. Coach Kevin Wallace will be in the broadcast booth this Saturday filling in "for the vacationing" Roy Beard on the D93 broadcast. This game should be called the BIG Change Bowl as both teams will be displaying significant changes. For Cooper, they have a new head coach for the first time since EVER. Shoutout to Coach Randy Borchers who did a remarkable job growing the program from scratch to 5A finalists 3 times I believe. Tremendous coach and unbelievable time and dedication to that school! Congrats moving on Coach Borchers. Cooper also loses 4-year stud QB Cam O'hara, RB Keagan Mahers, and DB Ryker Campbell who where a main part of the heart and soul of those really good Cooper teams. So, everything is pretty new with Cooper! For Christian County, it isn't your Granddad's Christian County anymore. That's done and so is Hopkinsville High School (I'm really sad to say). New in this very first game of the combined program known as the Christian County Tigers. Old Christian County only won one game last season, but Hoptown was a good team and in many ways was the best team South Warren faced prior to falling to Trinity in the 6A final last season, so they will have some good football players returning. But it's going to take time IMO. So, in the interim, this is a crazy game on paper but should be highly entertaining. But no doubt about it, 4 hours is a LONG bus ride. Good luck to both teams!
