By defenition of the rule, it seemed to be the correct call from my vantage point. I don't feel like the kid did anything overtly malicious. In a close game such as it was and time running out, those things can happen.

Dixie keeper had a very nice game. Cooper defenitely had many more shots on goal. Not a thing of beauty, but it was nice to see Cooper persevere and get the win while not playing their best. Logan Williams gets his second shutout.

O'Brien scores two late to give Coop the win. Goal two was a PK , after a foul in the box that resulted in a red card for the Dixie player.

Seems to be one of the better matchups this evening, any thoughts?

Score was 4-0 at the half and remained there until the final 5 minutes. Campbell was able to capitalize on a a couple of defensive errors by Cooper and that's how it ended.

Actually, it's not unusual for big swings year to year in any HS sport due to graduation, for example Cooper beat Campbell 6-2 in 2012. The thing that causes me the most concern, is Campbell shows absolutely no fear whatsoever of a narrow field, as opposed some, looking for excuses before they even take the field. Prediction... Kind of hard to sort everything out this early, but when CCH's only seeming question mark at least seemed to be answered ( scoring punch ) against ST Henry, not sure who's not giving them a no. 1 vote.

Those teams are selected were selected by the Northern Ky. coaches and the KY High School Coaches Association. I don't have a strong opinion either way simply because I haven't seen either one enough to have one. One would to assume the coaches know something on the subject.

Really don't have a strong opinion either way, but Hensley was co defensive player of the year with Davis-Roberts last season, first team all-state East...and it's not even close???

Can't say I would disagree with that assessment. On the positive side, Cooper did put three in the net, none of which were scored by Ross, O'brien, or Snow and that is a good thing long term.

I hate to shock the world, but, thank you Groinpull. This is what I was trying to say. I'm not trying to belittle any player on Cov Cath.

I agree that goals in and of themself won't win games, especially if your defense isn't dominant. By the same token, regardless of time of possession and how pretty a team looks in doing so, you have to score to win. My point is, a dominant, go to type of goal scoring threat (not necssarily based on stats) could be the difference in Cov Cath being very good or Cov Cath being exceptional. I'm not really sure how this other team and what happened last year even enters this conversation.

That's all relative to talent I suppose. For some teams getting to and advancing in regionals is going to be an exceptional year. I think any team that advances to state can rightly say had an exceptional season. I'm sure that is the goal of Cov Cath and rightly so based on what they have on paper. I won't say that they cannot go deep, if they do in fact get that far. I would also agree that a 20 goal scorer would be sufficient on that team for it to be highly effective.

Realistically, at least on paper, I think not. Cov Cath is by far the best team in NKY one through eleven based on club talent. The thing they will have to prove, and they very well may, as the season progresses, is can someone step up be a real difference maker up top. I'll be the first to admit, I've thrown out plenty of stats and names based on goals scored and who scored them in the ninth/tenth region. I've also seen Stockton up close and personal on the club level. It's just hard for me to believe that even the best of NKY pull it off.

Without question, will put up BIG numbers if healthy.

THE fact that you ASSUME it's a specific player and call him out by name without knowing the facts says nothing more than you have a predisposed opinion of a kid based on reputation. Said player has a reputation for a lot of things.The fact that you are so quick to focus on a negative says as much, if not more, about you as him. I'm always amazed by the "adults" screaming at officials and opposing players on the field. You know, the individuals who are actually involved in the game itself, physically and emotionally. They're the same "adults", who are so quick to come on this site and critisize a teenager's maturity level or character, when in reality, they are acting just as immaturely as the individual they are critisizing.

I recently went to the KHSAA web site to compare, what I consider to be, two very exceptional soccer players in NKY during the 2013 season. I'll refer to these players as Player A and Player B. Player A played on better team and had a more difficult overall schedule. Player A scored 30 goals and had 8 assists for the season. Player B played on a weaker team with a weaker overall schedule. Player B scored 31 goals and had 16 assists for the season. Players A and B did however play 12 games against 11 common opponents. Player A scored 15 goals and had 2 assists in those contests. Player B scored 13 goals and had 8 assists those contests. They both performed similarly well against common opponents. Neither of these players picked their schedules, they both just went out and played to the best of their abilities, regardless of who their opponent was. and they both had exceptional years. One of these players was recently slammed on this site and referred to as " a very ineffective scorer " based on some pseudo scientific poppycock that a poster created in his own mind. The other was Player of the Year. I just got on the internet to look at the facts and came to the conclusion that they were both exceptional players. Two exceptional players, who BOTH deserve any and all accolades have received

I hope you're right about the field, although I doubt it. The game will be early in the season, so hopefully it won't be as bad as it can be.

All I said was, STATIStICALLY, he was the best offensive player in NKY last season, and he was. I didn't suggest he was anything else. I suppose, by your standards, the game in which Evan O'Hara scored six goals against Calvary shouldn't count. Or, the the game in which CCH tied Summit last year, which featured a freshman field player, who had not played a minute in goal before that game because of a broken nose to the starter. Maybe those goals shouldn't count. CCH is a deep and talented team and plays a quality schedule, no question about it. But when you play in what is, without question, the weakest district in NKY, you can do that. Holmes frequently fields a co-ed team. A senior at Latin is a freshman or sophomore anywhere else and Holy Cross gave up more gals than Cooper. CCH is all but assured a spot in the regional tournament, before a game is played.

Cooper will compete this season, or at least score. They return Zane Ross, who, statistically was NKY's best offensive player. Other than a healthy Luke Treadway, that probably won't change. Ross, O'Brien, and Snow combined for nearly sixty goals and over forty assists last season. Only Boone scored more than Cooper last year. Logan Williams is more than solid in net. The question will be, can their defense stop anyone. As good as their offense was, their defense just didn't perform. They were extremely young and one would think that a year under their belt will help... only time will tell.
