  1. Offsides or not, it seems there is a lot of objection to PKs to end the game. I understand that but for people who play, coach or have kids that play a lot of club soccer this is the way it is and these are the rules worldwide. The kids in this game, I guarantee have been in PK shootouts before and they know what they need to do. As distasteful as it is, I have no issue with it. I really think non soccer people hate PKs more than people who see this routinely in club tournaments. With that said, I would like to see two 10 minute OT periods instead of two 5 minute periods.
  2. Yes, freshman Jack Stava (Cole Stava's younger brother) came out in the second group of five to take a PK but didn't get the chance. Kudos to that kid for stepping up. Jack played JV all year and was moved to varsity for post-season but did not see any state tournament action. I expect to see him starting for the Colonels next year.
  3. That's exactly right. Last year's team was loaded with senior talent. In the final I think only 2 non-senior starters and it may have been only one but I don't recall. To get back to that spot after losing so much speaks to the players/coaches. CCH returns 6 starters for next year as well as 3-4 juniors/sophomores who contributed quite a bit to varsity. Great season for those kids getting within a hair of repeating.
  4. Agree you cannot tell anything from the video or still photo other than it was close. If an attacking player has an arm, leg, half of his body, etc in an offsides position..............it's offsides. Close call, agreed but not definitive either way. As I said in my first post on this thread (post #4) congrats to Daviess as they have a fine team and are deserving champs.
  5. Dude, I've seen the video. Very clear video from a poor angle. LOL I think you described that very well. As I said, unless you were on the line of the last CCH defender there is no way you can say one way or another from the video. It was actually a very well officiated game overall.
  6. This soccer game matched the CCH Internet Radio all-time listener record for a football game on Saturday night. So yeah..........there is plenty of interest.
  7. LOL. Yes, I'm sure you were watching the play as intently as the AR was and saw where the Daviess player was at the exact moment the ball was crossed.
  8. Great effort by the defending champs as they didn't give up the title easily. Congrats to Daviess County as they have a great team and are deserving champions. PKs are part of soccer and as distasteful as they are, it's how it's done everywhere. Well done by CCH on a near miss repeat.
  9. I agree. Very solid and impressive turnout for Daviess in that semi-final and given that CCH travels well, should be a big crowd for tonight.
  10. I'm guessing that most of the people voting have not seen Daviess play.
  11. Can the Colonels defense and opportunistic offense continue their run for one more game or does it break down against #1 Daviess County who has only been beaten one time early in the year? Daviess appears to have solid players at every position and are very good offensively. The Colonels appear to have the best defense in the state at this point in time. If the Colonels defense can hold Daviess in check with a couple goals or less, I see this game going to OT and/or PK's.
  12. Another item of interest is that for the third year in a row, the boys championship will be won by a non-Louisville/Lexington team. The balance of power is definitely spreading out in Kentucky.
  13. Agree that another clean sheet will be tough to obtain on Saturday against Daviess but they are on a great roll defensively. Also, consider that of the five defensive starters this year for CCH (goalkeeper and four defenders), none were starters last season for the state champion team. The Colonels currently start four juniors and a senior in the back with the only senior being Mike Vogt.
  14. Colonels have a tough task vs Daviess County. I saw the second half of their game and they have a lot of firepower. Should be a good match.
  15. Dunbar with a late goal to avoid the shutout. Daviess definitely the real deal.
  16. Try looking back and seeing who inserted the CCH player not on the list into this thread. It wasn't me or GPR. Nobody is having a problem letting anything go but if it's brought up in an unrelated thread by someone else then I'd expect supporters of the CCH kid to respond.
  17. Exactly, Schneider was one of the better players I have seen this year on any team and I include Trinity, Summit, Collegiate, etc in those teams I've seen play. Going back to the "all region" team, if that were to be taken as accurate, it appears that CovCath has made it to the semi-finals of the state tournament with only three good players. The rest of the team isn't worthy of an honorable mention according to some wannabees on this blog. They just shut out (for the first time this season) the highest scoring team in Kentucky history with a few good players. That's some good coaching there!
  18. I'm not sure how interesting it is given that it's much more difficult to make an all-state team than an "all region" team. I'm not sure that anyone would complain about not making an all state team given that it's a much larger area. The only thing interesting is that you still seem to think the "all region" team is based on talent when it's clearly not the case.
  19. Thanks for the info. Sounds like North Hardiin has some quality players. Great thing about this tournament is you get some matchups you would otherwise not see.
  20. Who are the top players for North Hardin? What style do they play? Direct, possession team, etc?
  21. Difficult to predict as I'm not sure anyone in N. Kentucky is familiar with North Hardin or who they have. Most important thing for CCH is to forget the Collegiate win and focus on the task at hand. If CCH comes to play, I like their chances in this one.
  22. He came in and played the whole game after CCH scored.
  23. Class A school or not, Collegiate was still the 7th region champion and that region has probably produced more soccer state champs than any other region in the state. Yesterday, CCH came to play and Collegiate looked flat to me. Their coach chose to leave their two leading scorers on the bench to start the game. I assume he was thinking his reserves would roll over the defending state champs and he didn't need them? LOL For CovCath to graduate 18 seniors after winning the state title and be able to reload to get to this point is pretty remarkable and is a testament to the coaching staff and the senior class as well as the underclassmen who have filled those roles. Good luck to the Colonels on Thursday.
