Of the bears' two losses, one was by 4 to the 3rd or 4th best team in the region, the other was by 8 to the 2nd best team in the region, on the road, in arguably the toughest environment in the 10th. They've got a ways to go before they prove they can hang with the big dogs, but I certainly don't see any quit in them, rarely do with a Hinson club.

Says a lot about our region that we've had far too many great players in 25 years for us all to ever totally agree on a list like this. Best non-urban region in the state imho. Nowhere else I'd rather call home. Thanks for doing this DAWGs, interesting read.

Who got votes from that little Catholic school in downtown maysville? I hate being the guy always wining about his alma mater, but with three all a's, two district titles, and eleven 1000+ scorers I assumed we'd get somebody in over a few of the names I see up there. Aaron Rigdon? Drew Beckett? An Owens brother? A Poe brother? Help me out here.

10th Region Refs?

Igloos a VERY tough place to play when the home crowds rockin, especially for a less than experienced team. Be a close one. Pig/Garrison and Crawford combine for 70 plus. Environment rattles the Royals cage at crunch time. Crawford feels it down the stretch. Coach Hinson does his thing. Polar Bears by a bucket. Fear and Loathing in Brooksville.

Sosby came out of the box and had something nasty to say to the priest that assists for us and Gary Taylor was having none of it :lol2: no idea what exactly he was so heated about.

Free throws were the name of the game, Saints were awful from the line in the first half, BoCo got their chances in the fourth quarter and didn't make the same mistake.

If you fall and slide I don't believe it's considered a walk, it's a walk if you try to roll over or stand up but you can slide as far as you like. Never stops a giant groan coming from the crowd when its not called.

As I remember it - Toward the end of the Mason County v Shelby County match, a Shelby County player committed a HARD foul on Russ Middleton, may have been a flagrant, and that Shelby County player may have been ejected himself. Setty, who was out of the game at the time, left the bench and got in the Shelby Co player's face for hurting his teammate. Because he left the bench, the decision on the floor was the he would be suspended for the next game. Then I believe the Mason County administration was able to appeal at almost breakneck pace, and Setty was permitted to play in the finals. Now, I'm not sure it would have made a difference, Holmes were a bunch of Sophomores making their first trip to Rupp. Mason had the best player in the State, one of the best in the country, along with a support staff of experienced, talented guys (middleton, king, downing, barner, etc.) and all of them had been to Rupp 3 out of the 4 years they'd been in High School. It's still interesting to think about.

I gotta say they have a point papa. Remember during the lockout when Rondo and a holy host of others played at the fieldhouse? That was barely advertised and we covered maybe a quarter of the seats when I think we easily could've filled it.

Anyone able to make it down this past weekend. I saw on facebook that Trevor Setty and Alvin Simms took home the gold. Who were some of the other big names? Did anything interesting happen? Was Chris Lofton in the house?

Wow, Matt Wilson, Austin Crawford, and Cam Snapp? With Hinson coaching? I think I would just give that team the Region title, as an act of kindness to the rest of us :lol2:

Wondering about the possibility of luring Coach Douglas away from Rowan County? Would love to see her back in the 39th.

At least one other I can think of is the 2011 Fleming County Panthers. They already had Darion Burns and Troy Stewart, two of Fleming's all time greats. But they also could've had a guard named Troy Gibbs, who had transferred to Rowan County the year before, and didn't have much of an organized career, but achieved near mythical status in the Maysville street-ball scene. Also could've had Corey and Charlie Rogers but they ended up going to highschool about an hour southwest in Winchester. Would've been a truly dominant team.

I was discussing this with a friend of mine this week. Some know and some don't that Connor Maddox and Owens Crawford of Augusta played their middle school ball at St. Patrick. And some have pointed out what a team St. Patrick could've had with them and Andrew Sticklen on the same team. Made me think of another St. Patrick middle school team that had Stephen Mason and Lee Gallenstein on it as well as a center named Clint Englert who would eventually grow to 6'6 and transfer to St. Mary's in Paducah, a guard named Lee Stahl who would go on to play for Bellarmine after moving to Florida for High School, and a forward named Neal Pawsat who Mason County football fans will recognize. That team beat Campbelle County and Harrison County along with many other big name schools as middle schoolers and no doubt would've been a force in high school. Got me wondering if anyone else had similar stories about would've-been powerhouse teams that ended up breaking up early for one reason or another.
